  1. Edit: I totally reviewd the wrong Zelda song! Go me Well, I might as well give my two cents on this then. This mix has a great bass-line, interesting synth lead line, and excellent panning and arrangment among other things. I definetly reccomend it.
  2. I have to admit that I jumped the gun on this mix a little. I saw it was from some game I've never played and then read the title: "Concerto something or another...meh." And just wrote it off. Then I finally listened to it, and I think I did myself a favor. This isn't the most intense or exciting peice for sure, but I do like the arrangment, and I love the sax. I'd really think of this as more ambient or background music than a concerto piece. I say this because aside from the very beginning the music never really reaches out and grabs you ,but regardless; it sounds nice . The whole velociraptor call thing at the beginning is pretty clever, too!
  3. Just the other day, my friend and I were testing out the control naunces of Mewtwo, Young Link/Link, and Samus. As Mewtwo, we played bomb tag with his foward b mind control and dogded with teleportation. My favorite thing would have to be teleporting from far away, right into someones face. (It freaks people out) With the grapple throw characters, we tested that special move where you can grab a wall and pull yourself back up to it. I like that better than wall jumping myself.
  4. Yeah, new show! I like the new site lay out. Good job Cyan_ide (hope I spelled that right). I still haven't gotten my sticker, but I'll send in an "action shot" when I get it. ( I'll stick it on MY FACE). Oh, and I'm definitely going to check out the Chrono trigger mixtape now that I actually understand what it is. Wait... did you guys say you're sitll behind Crybaby emo kids in votes? What losers
  5. Just finished listening to the show. Good job Pixie and Zircon. I'm glad you guys put the spotlight on some of the other mixing sites like OLR this time. (maybe everyone realizes this, but I think that meo-mix borrowed from Final Countdown.) Also, Zircon, how could you mods be so mean to little old Liontamer? What's he ever done besides put people into submission holds?
  6. VGDJ is currently ranked below the Cry Baby Emo Kids podcast. Please, stop the injustice, vote.
  7. Oh, goodness. I swear I was JUST about to make a thread to ask about this kind of stuff. Thanks for reading my mind Zircon . This is really informative stuff. I'll have to copy and print it out so I can read away from my laptop.
  8. I always thought this mix was very clever. The lyrics make me laugh every time I listen too it, but I think that each part that the song is split into (the four verse thingys) captures the style of music that it's going after (or more parodies it) perfectly. That is the best part. I wish some (not all) of the background noise was left out so that it would sound more like a real song though.
  9. I don't have much to say that hasn't been said. This is a well done mix by some of the community's best talent. I am greatly pleased with this mix partly because the source material is very near and dear to me. I also think you all took the original song in a new and interesting direction, yet kept enough to remind me of the actual Lava Reef theme. For example, I like how you kept the little synth piano part in the background(at the beginning) and then the song takes off from there. Its things like that that bring back memories of this song's origins (for me at least).
  10. I know, I know. However, I just knew it wouldn't place. The vocal quality was pretty bad since I had to record into my headphones and I didn't even mention VGDJ in the intro either. Well, you did already make a Wingless mix, so I figure you've done your civic duty.
  11. And I was just about to go to sleep, too. Oh, well, I've been excited to hear everyone's intros so on with the show!
  12. Crap, there're already 6 entries!!!! I was hoping mine would win by default if nobody else entered and I secretly submitted my intro at the last second. My dreams of VGDJ stardom have been destroyed! NOOOO! (Well, I'll still submit my intro after I finishh it.)
  13. Been a big fan of this mix since I first heard it maybe a year ago, but for some reason I never thought to post my thoughts on it here. I always go crazy over the little acoustic guitar licks at the beginning and throughout the piece. The sitar-ish strings at the intro along with the drums (bongos?) give the entire song an almost south-east asian feel, but the guitar reminds me of some Spanish ballad. Then throughout the whole darned thing is this powerful piano that pushes to the forefront in some instances then becomes an underlying element. Then perhaps the most decisive part of this song (you love it or hate it) are the lyrics. Now right off the bat, I think the vocals are well done. They were mastered well and Harmony's voice is, to say the least, not taxing on the ears. Now the lyrics are decidedly very game related (referring to the tree of mana and flammie). Now I personally think more universal lyrics would have given this song greater appeal. By singing less about dragons and talking about "flying" like a metapohrical escape for example. But if Harmony did that the song wouldn't be as much of an homage to Secret of Mana, would it? Who knows, who cares? Basically, this song has like TEH BEST OPENING EVAR! And then it proceeds to the song kicks all sorts booty.
  14. I love the string motif that occurs throughout the song. It soon becomes like your pulse; regular (I hope), but dynamic. I like the bombastic drums at 0:22 as they seem to punctuate the piano solo at 0:58. The distortion and synth obviously have to be well implemented and of high quality for a mix like this to fly and it is so, it does. This one's great for Ninja Gaiden Black boss fights.
  15. Man, this mix is great. I haven't heard the source material yet, but I think that's a good thing because right now this mix sounds more like a stand alone piece than a remix or rearrangement. It really does have that modern jazz feel to it, but the excellnt strings and percussion make it oh so Po. The song seems to grow from the beginning, adding instruments and throwing in little varitations along the way. There is a nice spotlight on the low strings at 1:00 and this all culminates to one of Po's trade mark violin solos at 1:48. I like this one especially because it seems to hop around and arpeggiate between different scales. Afterwards the song cruises along until the unfortunately inevitable and slightly abrupt ending. In short, more great work from Po. Très chill.
  16. I intended to congratulate you two (Pixie, and Wingless) on a succesful first show, but then the next one came out, so good job on both. Can't believe tommorow is the beginning of March. Well, it'll be time to vote again, I guess. I hope there are a few more mixes to speak of by the time the next show airs, and I think that for an intro you could play a segment of a random mix from the site, and kind of fade into the show. Kind of like the way the intro is now, but with a different song each week. And if there was an intro contest, the most I could contribute would be beat-boxing "VG DJ" into a bad microphone. It wouldn't sound great, but it would have SOUL!
  17. Yeah, yet another a fellow tenor sax player! Welcome comrade.
  18. Just voted. I admit that I haven't listened to a show in a while, but that just makes me all the more eager for this one. Best of luck to Pixie and Wingless
  19. Reminds me of Rare Mineral Addict. Like the panning. Like the weird voices. (sounds like that one SIMS mix) Has violin, therefore I love it automatically. Seriously though I like the way the melody flows in and out of focus. The percussion is very complimentary instead of over-powering. The synths sound very nice as well.
  20. Star ROXORS my BOXORS!! And makes awesome mixes to boot. This one covers too many musical styles to count, but the cool thing is they're all done well. I particularly enjoy the orchestral opening. The build-up and tension is almost tangible. Then things cool off he segues into the rest of this schizo-mix. There was maybe one synth that seemed kind of uninteresting, and that's about all I can dislike about this. Star continues an amazing track record for different, yet satisfying OCRemixes. Keep up the good work!
  21. For the longest time I thought this song was about Cammy. Then I realized it was about Balrog's shorts (Ick!) Well, at least it's a smooth mix. Some of the instrumentation bugs me, but I like the filtering effects and the lead sax. I like what Neostorm did with melody, too.
  22. The reason there're so many views is probably because everyones freaking ready for you guys to say "WE"RE DONE!!" so we can listen to this opus of a mix project
  23. I think it's worth noting that this mix can still hold its own almost five years after its inception. It's funny because it reminds me of a lot of the more recent mixes on the site (which have been getting better and better). It's one of those mixes that can either calm you down or pump you up. And most importantly, this songs stinks like a McVaffe mix. It still reeks of excellent production quality and well implemented ideas.
  24. Just what the world needs, more FF remixes .... Naw, just kidding. I'm sure with all the talented remixers signed up, and how manny of them absolutely adore FF7, this'll be great. Can't wait
  25. Pretty much take your pick from any Ninja Gaiden Boss (especially on the higher difficulties). But to be more specific, the first Doku in mission mode.
