  1. Damn it! Way to make me cry tears of pure nostalgia. My head almost exploded when I realized that I used to watch all of these shows religiously. Toonami probably shaped my childhood more than I will ever realize. And I'll be damned, Johnny Quest. I almost forgot about that show! Edit: Also, lol at that pic, Aninymouse. I don't really know who that first guy is b/c I haven't watched Toonami in ages, but I assume he was the new host.
  2. That's probably true for various reasons. The best you can do to emulate the arcade more closely is to get an arcade pad and slim down your timing window in the arcade settings tab under "options." And, I think you said that you already have an arcade style pad, so yeah, not too much left to do. In theory, if the simfiles are synchronized correctly and your timing window is close to your arcade's it should feel the same.
  3. I kind of agree with you but, I think that a big part of Toonami or CN losing its appeal is that we've outgrown it. There will always be a core group of shows that we loved to watch and we will consider the time that those shows aired to be "the golden age" or what have you. When I go back and think of Dexter's Laboratory, or Gundam, or Yu Yu Hakusho, or even Voltron, I remember how I felt when I first saw them, but now I see their flaws as well. Lots of my favorite shows during the older Toonami Block were pretty formulaic to say the least I do agree that the newer shows have less substance and more slapstick but I don't exactly blame artists for trying to make profit off of as little as possible. It can be expensive to make cartoons these days. And not to be mean, but the animation reflects the audience, so if I were making a cartoon for little ADD ten-year-olds, it would look like a cartoon made for little ADD ten-year-olds
  4. Well I beat Paranoia Survivor today in my room. Yeah, the non-max version. And I didn't get a triple A, but still, I beat it. Also, playing stepmania on my roomates 720p tv/monitor is quite enjoyable. It has built in speakers with dolby surround sound, so I just plug my laptop into it and then plug my pad into my laptop and start playing. I actually prefer this to the arcade which is about a 5 minute walk from my dorm.
  5. You paid $500 for a PS2? Monstrous Money Signs, Batman! /jk
  6. This made me lol because I am guilty of doing this. It's just fun to press the extreme keys; we're just making sure the piano is in tune.... Also, I hated recording on my old laptop's sound card because it would record my laptop's internal sounds along with anything else I recorded. For some reason my old laptop sounded like there was a mechanical cricket inside of it.
  7. Hey, sup Ibanez? I haven't spoken to you in ages. Do you play on GGPO/2DFreeplay any? There are some seriously nasty super turbo players on 2DFreeplay, and if I recall correctly, you're very good with Honda. You might want to check it out. Maybe, you guys shouldn't start out with a street fighter because everyone has a favorite and in each street fighter everyone only wants to use their favorite haxing character (*akumacough*). So, in conclusion, you guys should play WakuWaku 7 or like Garuo.
  8. Tales of Phantasia is probably the closest the series ever came to ground-breaking -"voice acting" on the snes -anime-style sprites which were quite meaty -COOKING! <3 -other stuff that I can't call to mind at the moment -wikipedia it Doesn't make any of the other games any less fun, but they are generally formulaic to say the least. edit: Oh, yeah, this project is coming out tomorrow or something, right?
  9. GGPO doesn't work for me anymore. I just use 2dFreeplay... not that I've played a fighting game online in months or anything. Those were the days.
  10. Anime Dreamer has a great back-log of sim-files for SM if that's what you're looking for. The packs I'm currently using on my stepmania are mostly of the Dance Anarchy variety right now, though. Edit: Atma, you've broken 8 red octane ignition pads, WTF? Do you play with cleats? I've had my pad for 1+ year and my only gripe is that the up arrow can be unresponsive. Most of the arcade pads I play on don't even get serviced, so my home pad is a step up, lol.
  11. Hey, glad to see this compo starting back up again. I really like the source material, too. I don't think I'll participate this time around however. I'm getting ready to move and I'm sure the deadline is soon. I do finally have a mic and sound card in my pc, though.
  12. The commentators speculated 9.56. I'd say that's possible. I thought that was a great race to watch even though, I had it spoiled for me earlier in the day. It just defied imagination. I'm really happy that the US got a bronze. Especially after Tyson Gay was eliminated in the prelims . I can't wait to see his 200 time. Michael Johnson's record is a stake this time, I believe.
  13. This is a pretty cool blog, txai. Good luck with your continued coding exploits. Nice track list, haha.
  14. Haha, it's not like anyone has to apologize for picking on Michael. He's in the spotlight and should be scrutinized. At the same time, we can make fun of his goofy smile as much as we'd like. At the end of the day he has 8+ olympic golds and world records and the rest of us are fat-asses watching from the sidelines.
  15. Wow, I'm looking foward to playing Emerald Ties and Sonic 1 Megamix. There are some very talented coders working on these games.
  16. when the hell did this happen? I swear, I always miss the running events. I didn't think the sprints even started until next week! I guess they went by too fast. Yes that was an attempt at humor, shut up.
  17. Happy Birthday, Blind! Here's to a full recovery and many more great pieces of music to come!
  18. If you're worried about a pad to play on and you don't want to spend 300 on a cobalt flux, you could by two Red Octane Ignition pads (total =$100) and tape them together or something. Gameplay wise, just get stepmania. It can do DDR/ITG and Pump if you have the correct peripherals.
  19. pfft, couldn't even beat the first boss. LAME!
  20. Hmm, more awful news. Another great taken from us.
  21. This is really awesome, Shadix! Ironically, I was just playing sonic mega collection and having a nostalgia overload.
  22. I saw women's swimming yesterday and it was pretty cool. I'm not much into swimming but the 100m relays were intense. Men's breast stroke was pretty cool too. I will say that I'm most excited for track and field, however, that being my favorite sport. Also, I can't believe the raging hormones inside me allowed me to miss the awesomeness that is women's beach volleyball.
  23. This is strange because some friends of mine and I were watching Bernie Mac's Def Comedy Jam acts on youtube only about a week ago. His stage presence was amazing and his style has certainly been refined over the years. He successfully made the transition from edgy stand-up to main stream family comedian without really losing himself. He has certainly left us with a great body of work but it's still a shame the Mr. Mac left us so prematurely.
  24. Ditto. A few thoughts that came to mind as I was watching this ceremony: This looks like a DCI show on steroids. This could possibly be a live showing of "Hero" with all the symbolism. I loved the pararde of athletes, too.
  25. Lol, I believe this thread has you fooled. There are potentially (potentially!) four of us OCRers here in the Roanoke area. And that's only after avatar moved here. However, yes, there are lots of cool gamer people in the state of Virginia (OCRers and otherwise.)
