Pilotwings ReMix in Game Informer article
Sole Signal replied to glasfen's topic in General Discussion
Cool stuff, man. I loved Pilotwings and its soundtrack back in the day, especially the Bird Man, Hang Glider, and Gyrocopter themes. -

OCR01822 - Donkey Kong Country "Flying with the Funk"
Sole Signal replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Loved this mix since I heard the WIP back in its infancy. Great to see it completed and posted. Er, check the front page again, Sir. Different people? It goes further than that. In fact Global Empire is a one person/3 alt mix. -
Interesting read, especially the part about religious services. I wasn't aware of that.

A year already? Wow. Yeah, I haven't forgotten about this; I'm getting Neko to lay down some guitar. Cleaned up WIP here: www.audixmusic.com/audix_brawl.mp3 -
Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business - History
Sole Signal replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Projects
Awesome, can't wait to hear the final of Jib Jig. Just heard a lot of the other tracks for the first time too, sounding great. Funny how that same section keeps getting used in previews for my Krook's March; I actually prefer the earlier orchestral sections more. -
What music/video streaming service should OCR use?
Sole Signal replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
Video looks cool, Jose. I bet within time the number of youtube comments per song will outweigh the OCR review thread; maybe an annotation to direct listeners here to review (too)? -
I'd guess 50 or so from the outset. That site I linked to offers: - 200 simultaneous viewers - up to 320kbps broadcasting - no bandwidth limit for $59/month Seems like a reasonable price to me....?

We'd probably do both, providing archives for download as well as live streaming. I did find this which answered a lot of my questions. It looks very doable.

What music/video streaming service should OCR use?
Sole Signal replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
Actually, to "watch in HD" you need 1280 x 720 or higher, unless they changed it from when I uploaded my last video like a week ago. http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/you_tube_hd_gary.html http://torley.com/optimized-sony-vegas-settings-for-vimeo-youtube-hd I'm not sure what it is to enable HQ, but for some reason I thought it was certainly above 480 x 360. -
Mario 64 Final Boss (Film/Orchestration) WIP
Sole Signal replied to PrototypeRaptor's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This is pretty sweet stuff. Really the only gripe I have is that harpsicord sample (I thought it was a bad guitar at first listen). At 2:00 it sounds especially out of place and weak. I think an organ would work better in its place. Overall, though, nice job! That 3/4 section is done very well. -
My church is looking to get into streaming services live from our website. Has anyone done this or know what is involved? I have a few questions that would be easier talked out on AIM (mchawk19) - I'd really appreciate any help!

What music/video streaming service should OCR use?
Sole Signal replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
The reference to last.fm embeds in the first post had me thinking that you're just looking for a service to offer streaming previews (i.e. in each song's writeup thread). Youtube will be okay for publicity's sake, but you're creating a lot of work for yourself. In order to "force" HQ with "&fmt=18", you have to upload a video that gives youtube enough to work with (for a 4-5 minute song, at least a 80mb file). I bet that guy spent the better part of a week just creating, rendering, and uploading those SSF Turbo videos. I'm just speaking from experience, there may be a quicker means that I'm not aware of. -
What music/video streaming service should OCR use?
Sole Signal replied to Liontamer's topic in General Discussion
HD on youtube is a whole different ballgame than HD on TV. There is a big difference between normal youtube sound quality and HD youtube sound quality. Sure, it's for a preview, but IMO it shouldn't even be considered when there are better options (i.e. soundclick) available. An official OCR youtube channel would be better served with a few "official" music videos rather than a slew of our tracks with a static image IMO. -

Actually, soundclick is a very good option for what we need, as it allows deep link embedding off the soundclick site even with the free account with no sign-up for listeners required. I think getting VIP for $10 a month allows you access to prettier players and maybe faster load times, not sure. Here's what the free account embedding looks like: http://www.audixmusic.com/documents/72.html Youtube would be such a hassle for mass uploadings, since it introduces the variable of actually having to render out a video for each track. We'd want HD quality available, I assume, which just means large file sizes, long upload times, and frustration. Unless soundclick has some sort of bandwidth cap for free or VIP accounts (something we could ask them), I say that's the way to go. -
$200 credit on purchase of a ps3 - no joke!
Sole Signal replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
Oh, absolutely. The financial "experts" investing in the mortgage packages and bankers recommending unqualified people for mortgages are also to blame. House values going down exposed the major problems in the system. It'll be an interesting next few years... -
How long has it taken you to musically get where you are today?
Sole Signal replied to Gario's topic in General Discussion
Started in 2005, didn't get around to subbing to OCR until April 2006. My first sub, a Blast Corps remix, was pretty horrible and I really don't know what I was thinking. My posted mixes are 100x better. -
$200 credit on purchase of a ps3 - no joke!
Sole Signal replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
@ StarZander It was a combination of factors, but that was probably the biggest issue. The easy credit that was given (i.e. subprime mortgages), and the subsequent investment of major financial institutions in these subprime mortgage packages made people happy for a time but was destined to crash. It all comes down to greed. People trying to live beyond their means, lenders trying to make a quick buck, and investors thinking that the high interest rates on these mortgage packages make them a good idea in which to invest. -

Good tips from zircon. They should make stuff like this a required college freshman class (or better yet, senior in high school). In my 4 1/2 years in college, I NEVER came across any advice or tips for "real life" when it comes to building credit, home buying tips, or personal finance (aside from my finance courses due to my major). -

Ethical arguments aside, I'm convinced that piracy does in some cases, "help" the software company. There was a thread in the FL forums a while back asking who had at one point pirated FL. If memory serves me, there were about 100 people who fessed up to pirating, and then purchasing. About twenty fewer people demoed and then purchased. The real users will pay up as they see results and continue to use it, while the ADD pirates will move on to the next big thing. Storytime: I bought a used copy of Red Alert 2 at Gamestop a couple years ago and when I got home I discovered that there was no serial number provided. Called up Gamestop and was told by a noticeably uncomfortable employee to look online for a "crack that works."
