  1. Thanks. I'm not 100% sure on what is meant by this, to be honest. Yeah, everything from the drowning alarm onward was kinda haphazardly done and I plan on re-doing it whenever vocals are done. As for imagining vocals, I have a couple of ideas but really tbh I'm not seeing exactly how they'll fit, but I'll get to that whenever I have to. The vocals were the first idea for the mix though, and probably the last to be executed. Once again, the last stuff was kinda done haphazardly and I plan on improving that mainly with microedits rather than a whole section. That said, I'm not sure about including drowning music throughout the entire thing, really its in there for shits and giggles at best. I understand not really liking this mix, personally I'm not even a huge fan of it but most people who I play it for seem to really enjoy it. The crazy synth that comes in will be turned down in future versions though as apparently that was a major concern by multiple people.AS for the highs being empty, I'll look into it. I'm actually aiming for a more 2002-2005 British prog house feel, or like an indie dance project or something. Think somewhere in the range of Royksopp, Tiefschwarz's "Warning Siren", and Hot Chip.
  2. Just another update for you nozarex, I just posted it to the WIP forum so the link is here. It is almost complete too.
  3. New link: http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/wycb/Super-MEtroid-rEmix-2
  4. Thanks. Yeah, this is definitely a rough mix and should get tighter as I keep plucking away on it. My rule on suggestions is to always try them out first, so I'll try it and see, that said, I'd only do it on the "organic part of the song". (Ok, explanation, my entire idea for this remix was going to try to create a mix of "organic" and "synthetic", with the organic parts being those where its mainly the 808s as a bassline with the pad going fairly smoothly, and the synthetic part being where everything gets chaotic with the reese and all. I also wanted the more organic parts to represent exploration in Metroid, where its all about discovery, while the synthetic parts would be the battles that are interspersed in the discovery. Overbearing, yes, but I like it). I actually can't hear it with the subs I have. I can see it on a frequency monitor, and I can just high pass it at like, 25Hz but I'm not sure exactly as to what is causing it. Noted and noted. I've tried easing up the volume when the melody comes in and I've added another 32 bars to help keep the progression from becoming too stale. Voice clip at the end is out, but I kinda like the voices dispersed throughout the mix. Thank you, that was the point. I'm working on the problem of the melody synth being boring, but I'm having trouble coming up with stuff, I think I have an idea though. The breakdown idea I kinda dig, but possibly not in the same context you are thinking. I'm sure the result will be pleasant though. Newest version has a bit more of the source in it, but not much. Also, the wrong note kinda seems unpossible considering I just looped the same 2-bar pattern over and over again. Thank you all for the comments. I have a slightly updated version below, but I'm still working on it so don't worry.
  5. Something I whipped together fairly quickly for a request here. I still need to get one of my friends who I'm in a band with to do vocals but next time we record I'll probably have him lay something down to get an even more dance-y feel to this. Not 100% sure if I'm going to submit to OCR because this may not fit the standards but its a fun mix nonetheless. Link: Here P.S. - I just noticed pretty much any time I start a topic here, its always after like, 11:00PM Central.
  6. I knew a guy who would go to sleep to Metallica. True story.
  7. While that is true, video game music typically has a style and arrangement to it that most others don't, because game music is usually made for two purposes: looping and themes. There are exceptions, definitely, but compare the structure of a 4-on-the-floor F-Zero track with something like Strings of Life and you'll begin to notice some major differences.
  8. QFT OCR in general has a bias towards more "traditional" forms of electronic music that make up the majority of the electronic music that is out there. A lot of good electronic genres rely on subtlety and time to make their point whereas video game music makes its point immediately, then loops the damn thing. One of my current favorite electronic songs, "Hi Friend" by Deadmau5 and MC Flipside, absolutely destroys dancefloors, yet the judges here would easily reject it, just because it is incredibly simple and contains very little melodic content. Its not necessarily a bad thing, OCRemixes just have a certain sound to them, and only certain genres will fit into that hole. If you don't like it, don't submit to OCR, etc. etc.. If you feel the need to submit to OCR, prepare to modify your original intention.
  9. Just so you know, I read this post and have already kinda started on something similar to what you're mentioning, but mine definitely has more of a New Wave feel to it. I need to talk to my friend who I'm doing an indie dance project with to do some vocals on it but this is the current WIP: http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/acps/Chemical-PLant-Remix
  10. NEWEST VERSION: 2/2/09 http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?r1ymr2nzhnx The source for the tune is:
  11. Sweet! I knew there was a somewhat justifiable reason for putting a Radeon 4870 in my new production PC.
  12. I'm probably going to start playing semi-frequently under the tag "reccej".
  13. Not to irk on zirc's territory but yes, the WIP:O forum is the perfect place for getting feedback on original music.
  14. I may be willing to take a second whack at a Sigma Remix, or remix my remix, or something similar.
  15. Whew! last minute submission but I'm glad I could get back on board for this project guys.
  16. Heavy atmospheric fare, about par for the course with zircon, though that's not a bad thing in the slightest. I am a bit curious about such a quick turnaround in the posting though, considering how long tracks are lingering in the panel. Does zirc get some special "straight to the site" privileges or something?
  17. Nothing like Drum and Bass. Artists that you may not have heard of that are worth mentions (although these guys are certainly far from obscure in the DnB world): Spor: http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=8ix8gYj3Wjk (Spor - 1up) http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=9m4iyYFxKh0 (Spor - Deathray) DJ Fresh/Bad Company UK: http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=gymNhQR7_-E (Bad Company UK - Planet Dust) http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=L8aO9u_927g (DJ Fresh - Exhale) Its worth mentioning this guy mentored Pendulum, and later renounced them once Pendulum basically sold out. DnBdrama lolz. Noisia: http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=HlOHr7qye6w (Noisia & Mayhem - Exodus (Feat. KRS One) Once the rap kicks in everything is so brutal. They also do some pretty cool house/breaks stuff, like: http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=ApAD9Y0uaZw (Noisia - Raar) http://www(dot)youtube(dot)com/watch?v=oc8vdU7ZQYw (Noisia - Yellow Brick)
  18. This made me laugh way too much. Happy birthday from a fellow Tennesseean.
  19. Just out of curiosity, what plug-ins are included? Ones that can't be downloaded for free/at all, specifically.
  20. If you're looking for good headphones for producing, the ones that "flatten" the sound are best. You want something that doesn't have an over-exaggerated or under-exaggerated frequency response, but instead as flat of a response as possible.
  21. Sounds great for the most part, though there is a little hiccup around 0:32.
  22. First off, good source. I freaking love that game. Things I noticed: 1. The guitars need a bit of fattening up. The best example is from 0:53-1:30 or so. If you want to make it sound more chaotic, get that bitch fuzzy and loud. The lead could also use a bit of touching up, or maybe just more volume. 2. I like the synths, especially the last one. 3. The drums need more variety. Maybe during the breakdown you could ad in some crazy break, like an Amen or something (only please don't add in an Amen). The percussion is nice but its not adding enough. Your cymbals are also buried under everything, wouldn't hurt to add a bit of high end.
  23. I'll just go ahead and say this to save some time. HAPPY LIFE DJP
  24. You'd be surprised, especially if you've ever considered using outboard gear. That said, if you're going to be strictly software and are approaching this mainly from a hobbyist perspective, then yes it may be overkill. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/1202VLZ3/ this is essentially the same one that crapped out on me. Although I bought mine second hand and Mackie gear is usually incredibly solid. You are right though, in that they aren't specifically built FOR portablity, but honestly that mixer is smaller than you think and is very easy to transport to point A to point B. It really all breaks down to company preference. I must admit my lack of knowledge for both Tascam and Presonus, though I will say that everything I've used by the latter is for the most part great quality. Mackie has a very reputable history but is starting to fall behind newer companies. Alesis isn't the biggest name but everything they do is feature packed and cheap. M-Audio is as close to consumer-brand as professional audio gear gets but they have a knack for getting things done effectively and cheaply (and is price-wise). Well I have an M-Audio 2496 (first interface I got) installed in my desktop computer, but decided I needed something for my laptop, so I got the Mackie. At the time I also had that Mackie mixer mentioned above but about 3 months ago is started emitting a weird noise and so far I suspect its one of the capacitors. I have yet to crack it open but in the meantime I've started working on building a new computer to replace my old desktop and figured that I might as well get a new interface with more Pre's as now I'm in a band and I'll need as many channels I can get when recording. So while it seems like overkill at the moment, over the next few months my amount of gear will decrease down to a more reasonable amount. TMI, I know, but you asked. Any one interface will be enough.
