  1. This actually looks pretty nice. I think the vgm scene does need something like the old vgmix. OCR isn't everyone's cup of tea, and it doesn't accept a few things that I would like to hear (mainly 20 minute prog epics/covers ). I like the look of this set up so far, hope it starts to grow!
  2. I'm with AnSo/Jimmeh here. I can't hear anything out of place. The vocals sound clean, the production style works. It's hella cheesy, but thats coo with me. The time stamps by my fellow J's check out. I especially enjoyed the flute/ocarina breakdown. Nothing to add that hasn't been said really. Link be pimpin' yo. YES
  3. Perhaps your mic just can't handle that much volume. All mics have a cutoff point where they can't handle. A decent USB sound card would probably get around lots of problems because they're built for proper recording, whereas mic inputs on laptops assume you just want to use skype or whatever. If you're serious about recording, it's well worth getting a decent sound interface, and probably a decent mic too. (Note: I would consider firewire over USB if you can, they're generally a lot more stable in real time recording then USB)
  4. If you don't know the response of your headphones, mix to a professionally mixed reference that you think sounds good on your stuff. If your mix doesn't have as much bass as a song you think is mixed well, it is the right thing to EQ the bass up. Other then that it's entirely a personal preference thing really.
  5. Mic inputs expect an extremely low input that they then boost up to line level. If you're inputting line level signals its probably going crazy boosting it up to line level whilst also trying to limit it. If you're putting mic level signals into it and its still being weird, its probably just a shit audio card, as most laptops have. Could also be impedance matching issues if you're trying to plug a guitar straight into it.
  6. I might be if you've got a sample of your stuff? (There's one free track btw.)
  7. Don't remember the original mix, but the breakdown makes it pretty obvious that this is fine in terms of arrangement. Picked up on the source use fairly easily. The production is pretty capable, bit of a strange guitar lead tone though. Everything is very audible, nice separation between parts. All round pretty coo job. Although one day I'll be able to vote on your tracks without being going "urrrrrgh AD compresshun!!!!111one". YES
  8. Well, I think apart from the intro this is fairly discernibly gerudo valley once it gets going, though the solo seemed a little irrelevant (still nice though). Bit of a lame ending as andy said. I'm gonna disagree with him on the conditional vote though, didn't really have much problem with the sounds/reverb levels. They're more of a choice then a fault to me, and not particularly hurting its chances as it is. Otherwise its well put together with some nice automation and loving that clap/snare combo. YES
  9. You're probably better off just moving the mic slightly and find out which spot gives the least phasing issues for the frequencies you want. Inverting isn't your only option.
  10. I'm inclined to agree unfortunately. You guys pretty much don't talk about anything related to OCR for the majority of part 1. Its mostly just you guys insulting each other, which is only mildly funny cause I know you dudes. I wasn't caring enough to keep listening. *bleep*bleep* has structure and a pretty identifiable topic for each bit interspersed with randomness which keeps it interesting and funny - this is the total opposite.
  11. I'd just like to make my feelings known: the english lyrics of this song are just shockingly bad; Thus I welcomed the presence of the original Japanese. Arrangement is all fine, nice string parts. Guitar playing is capable. Vocals are not in tune :/. They're not massively off or anything, but enough for it to annoy people with a good ear. My gf didn't notice at all, so I'm going to assume that this isn't an issue for most people. I didn't hear the first version so I can't compare, but the balance and production is okay now. Vocals are a bit dry, but thats a choice more then something to "fix". It makes the performance a bit more intimate and exposed, possibly making the intonation issues a bit more audible. Basically I wouldn't complain about a bit more reverb in general, but it's just about okay as is. On the whole whilst its a bit iffy production side its arrangement is well put together, and I'm sure KH fans would get a fangasm out of it (though I'll never understand why, it was the most boring 5 hours of my life before I gave up caring after my friend forced me to play it). YES borderline
  12. Whilst this arrangement is clearly very musical, the source is a little buried due the the new chords you've imposed on it; so its not particularly obvious that this is breezy in quite a few sections. It does become very obvious towards the end though, and its definitely 50% plus, I just kinda wish it was more obvious due to my source love. I think ziwtra is a production genius, and his xenogears tracks were pretty awesome; I couldn't believe the sequencing I was hearing at times. This one - which is a bit older? - is not quite as hot, but still pretty sweet. I enjoy the way parts swell and flow together, and while there are a few general mix issues (fake-ish guitar, slightly hot gated synth), they're pretty easily overlooked, and don't make the track any less enjoyable. I think the rigidity of some parts was a stylistic choice and imo it worked fine. Good stuff. YES
  13. Btw damned, I am going to finish that secrit track. Add it to thine list. I'll go with the silly name for now, might change: Super Effective - andyjayne, Fishy
  14. You do realize we're remixing ALL of them atm: http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=23902
  15. Guitar: if you can convince me with wips as opposed to words . Feedback: I'm pretty much always open to giving feedback if people ask.
  16. You can audition with a wip. But you've kinda just admitted that you've got nothing else whatsoever that you've made before so I wouldn't get your hopes up (not trying to be mean, just realistic). It's great to hear people want to help out, but just bear in mind (especially from a judge) there's a certain quality ocr expects. But just fyi; the snow mountain one is trancey type dance stuff, and I'm not sure what danny b will do right now, but he does a number of electronic styles.
  17. Hrm, possibly. Thing is we've already allowed slider and snow mountain to both have a mix, and they are pretty much identical. You'd have to ensure that the style/feel is very different from the other two mixes. I don't want to end up with overkill on that theme. For that reason I wouldn't mind the opening remix to be short. (Oh, and non-posted mixers need any old remix to audition with to prove they can meet the standard.)
  18. No episode yet; sad panda . Hope you guys get some more time, it's been nice having vgdj back!
  19. Rozo has asked me to open up his track, so its free to claim for now.
  20. lol, that's alright. I stand by my decisions :P. Even if you don't resub, keep 'em comin'!

  21. If you want some feedback before you submit, post your links in the wip (work in progress section) forum (its in the workshop section). No one will troll or spam anything there. No need to be defensive, these forums are very friendly in the music related sections. If anyone is being unreasonable the mods will pick up on it quickly. People upload their mp3s here all the time, its very unlikely anyone will steal them. I think you're the first person I've ever seen to be worried about it enough to write a warning in their post. Just saying, lighten up and enjoy the community, it's a bit disconcerting to say hi by warning us not to be mean. None-the-less, welcome to the forums :3.
  22. Whoa whoa whoa, read that carefully: 160kbps mp3 and 48kbps AAC. Part of a module I did last year was on compression artifacts of different types of encoding at different bit rates. AAC has a very different way of breaking up and producing artifacts then mp3 and it only really becomes audible to average joe at particularly low bit rates. Apples and pears. This doesn't surprise me at all. If they were both mp3 it would be incredibly depressing stats, but this is pretty par. That's a very misleading title.
