I agree that on the average, the earlier seasons were certainly better. However, I thought the finale was a pretty damn awesome series finale. The hallway of characters, allowing each of us to say goodbye to them as well as JD, the "home movie" future, and the show creator being the last one to say goodbye to JD (the janitor outside). Not to mention, it was a nice twist with JD actually putting the penny in the door and not the janitor screwing around with him because he could. Also, the rant book JD gave Dr. Cox? Such a nice bit of awesome. Scrubs is definitely one of my favorite shows and am sad to see it go, even if it was time (8 years? Damn). I hope they release a complete series box set with some extra features so I can pick up all the seasons. I wonder if they'll end up making a "season 9" of scrubs? Obviously few, if any, of the current people will be in it except the interns, but I think a new series based on them would be pretty good.

I remember when you asked for reviewers in the OCRWIP IRC room. It was good then. It's amazing now. I was reading djp's writeup, and saw that you said you had influence from Naruto. I was thinking "Ok, but I don't hear it..." and then bam, on cue, the shamisen kicked in. But yeah, niiiiiice. I really love how it's not just heavy guitar, there's a lot in here.

I'm using a laptop that was bought in January of '05. It's a Dell. I'm surprised it still works. I actually had to completely wipe the hard drive using dban though about 2 weeks ago because I had a virus/trojan/thing. Using hijack this! and Combo Fix actually seemed to annoy it and made things worse, so I just decided to nuke it anyway since I hadn't since I got it (and even then I didn't do a fresh install, I just removed the bogus crap that came with it). It reduced startup time from around 7-8 MINUTES to 45ish seconds before I can use firefox. Thanks, I appreciate it though =) I have to say though, I got a Saitek Eclipse (blue, of course) from newegg when it was on sale. I really can't wait until I have everything so I can use it.

It was over a year ago I believe, and I never saved the link, unfortunately. Correct; the program looks at all the files it needs, and uses the data within to set the parameters of the huge sine function. All the parameters need to be re-evaluated for every instrument, every note, and every harmonic...and calculates the value of the sine for 44100 times a second. There's even more to it because I implement a basic ADSR envelope, so it has to calculate that for every note and harmonic as well. I'm actually surprised it took only 30 seconds to calculate hydrocity. I agree, I rather somewhat enjoy using matlab. It's quite fast. It certainly takes time to get used to using it, but it's really not that bad. The program does the analysis of the original data, then uses what it needs inside of the sine function. I wish I could enjoy my tax return. Instead, I owed over SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. Turns out that some paid research work I did was taxed like a mofo ($600 out of $3300). I was hoping to use my tax return to finally build a computer, but well, that's gotta wait... I've been saving for over a year and only have a case (free), hard drive (christmas gift), psu, and keyboard :/ .

Indeed. I had to go on $30 on food for two weeks, split between 2 people. Walmart certainly helped, since everything there is cheaper than Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Lowe's Foods, etc...

I remember reading something where this guy was ranting at the horribleness that was the wav file (not the quality, but how it's written). From what I remember, it was something like a header section, then some data for each channel, then another header, then more data, etc... I couldn't understand why there needed to be so many headers, and why not something like "sample rate, number of channels, start of data, etc.." and then the data. I've never heard of verilog? What's it used for? The name reminds me of prolog...ugh. Indeed (on both accounts)!

I knew you'd reply to this sometime since you were in a real-time class as well . I did everything in matlab (nice and easy vector operations and a nice function called wavwrite() which will take the data points and save it as a .wav file), but I'm thinking about porting it to C++ or Java over the summer if I'm bored (and so I can use it anywhere and not have to have matlab installed). I just need to figure out how to write wav files...I heard they have really stupid rules.

So I just finished my real-time systems final project. We were to take an input file, consisting of stuff like: ... A4 Q E4 E. G4 S ... and our program would create a sound file of that tune. We used the SHARC Archive to provide the necessary information (i.e. frequency of each note playable by that instrument, number of harmonics, amplitude/phase of each harmonic, etc...) to get "real sounding" computer-generated instruments. Basically, we would read the info about the instrument into our program, and it would calculate the amplitudes for each note and its harmonics by this big sine wave: a * sin(2*pi*harmNum*fundamental(noteIndex)*t + phi) where a is the amplitude, harmNum is the harmonic number, fundamental(noteIndex) is the fundamental at the specific note (i.e. A4), t is the current time value, and phi is the phase. Now, since I found this so interesting, I went ahead and implemented chords and the ability to change instruments. Still not satisfied and still very interested in this, I thought it would be a good idea (and fun) to implement an ADSR envelope as well. And after much frustration and headache, I have finished. My input files now look like: ... inst tuba a#2 s inst trombone a#3 s e4 s inst tuba - s g2 e. inst trombone a#3 e. e4 e. inst tuba a#2 q inst trombone a#3 e e4 e inst flute_vibrato g6 s a#6 s inst tuba c3 e inst flute_vibrato c7 q inst tuba d#3 s c3 e. inst flute_vibrato - s g5 s a#5 s inst tuba d#3 s inst flute_vibrato c6 s ... and the result is something like this: Hydrocity Zone Act II Needless to say, I am quite happy. Have any of you ever used Fourier Synthesis or any other ways to generate sound?

Not always. From what I've seen, only capital "Him" is used for God. Other pronouns can be capatilized for extreme formality or for a blast to the past (colonial era, I believe). Unless I am mistaken, of course. But I've seen pronouns capatilized before.

Let's hope somebody knows what this is, because that sounds fantastic. Have you tried looking up the music website (or whatever group/club sponsored the orchestra) on the college's website, getting an email address, and shooting them an email? I know that for my college, most events are run through a group called Apps, and I can check out info about events on their website (which is a part of the school's website), or at least get some contact info to someone who may have put on the event.

I WANNA BE THE GUY Takes you back through the previous generation's era-styled graphics and references (I.E. you have to fight a green Zangief that shoots Hadoukens out of its mouth and blankas out of its crotch). It's also hellishly hard. So hard, in fact, that there is no easy mode (medium is the hardest mode). Arrow keys move, left shift jumps (and double-jumps), and Z shoots. Do you have what it takes to be The Guy? Unlocker Ever have those stupid error messages when trying to remove an external USB hard drive or moving/deleting a file that says it's being accessed (even when you know its not)? Use this and you can remove the leftover handles and you can easily move/delete the media.

The main site you want to check out is vgsheets.com. There, a bunch of transcribers get together and link off that forum (look under Affiliates). There's also a place for requests. I used to transcribe sheets for them, but I've since gotten far too busy to be able to anymore.

Those pictures in the video that came from 3D models looked exactly like the pictures from Chrono Trigger: Resurrection before Square-Enix shut them down. Did you use pictures from that project in yours?

Try Audacity (the newest beta version, 1.3.x I think). I rendered a 24-bit 44.1KHz 2-channel wave file into a 5.9MB (yeah, it was close to the limit) 128 ABR mp3 and it sounded pretty good.

Oh man, a S3&K HD Remix would be BALLIN'. Even if it was the exact same music, just better quality.

The Incredible Machine. Radix. And if you are looking for point-and-click: Myst. Though I would suggest getting realMyst instead: it is the same game, but in a full 3D environment you can walk around in.

It's pretty good as a remake. I keep feeling that's there's something missing though, and I definitely think that there should be a solid ending rather than a fade out (which I guess I can see considering that it's a remake and that in the game the song's on loop, but still...it kinda feels like a cop-out).

Ah, finally Jazz Jackrabbit was mentioned. From Apogee - Monster Bash was pretty awesome. And seriously, no one has mentioned Wing Commander (all of them) or Privateer or Privateer 2: The Darkening? P2:Dark is seriously one of my favorite games.

Don't forget the intro sequence. You need something to capture the player's attention and curiosity. Take FFVI. It starts off with people talking about raiding a town with someone who killed 50 soldiers like they were pie. Then the intro credits take place while watching the mechs trek to the town (with some pretty great music, which unfortunately doesn't appear in the rest of the game in that form).
