  1. Reading the previous year's post, the bad mixtitle pun flood basically has to happen.

    My ideas:

Mixes with titles in Finnish (at least partially)

Mixes with guitars by Tuberz McGee

Mixes that are recent resubmissions of Portal 2 tunes

Mixes of collabs where the other mixer is Dutch

Sorry, I have no serious ideas, but generally the bit more obscure stuff, or just funny connections between pieces would make me smile.

  2. I am assuming that while the content policy on reusing OC ReMixes is clear when it comes to arrangements themselves, there is still really no permit from the copyright holders of the original music (game companies).

Are there instances where there is no such gray area about re-using OC ReMixes? e.g. with Capcom or Square-Enix, with whom I understand OCR has some agreements (do they say anything about a third party re-using the arrangements)?

  3. Well, this is indeed a genre you don't hear all that often around here. But yeah, it is surely most welcome! This is a super fun arrangement.

The changes to the arrangement v1 to v2 add a lot in my opinion. The sounds are actually mostly pretty serviceable to my ears - the ensemble playing sounds genuine enough, like a band playing. Only the banjo feels rather mechanically sequenced, and the bass when it's exposed during multi-instrument dropouts (arrangement-wise, these spots are really good).

Arrangement-wise, the only thing to improve I'd say would be the ending - it kind of just stops, it could do something more there, like repeat the last phrase a couple of times, slow it down a little, or some other such signaling that the piece is coming to a close.

Strong stuff, I'm really eager to hear more. Good luck with the recording gear!

  4. Later half of the eighties on Japanese home computers is a goldmine, and Sierra did a really good job porting the game over on DOS. Same for Silpheed, pretty rocking soundtrack there. I recall reading somewhere that the Silpheed soundtrack was quite groundbreaking at the time (1986), pushing the envelope.

Zeliard is also very much worth checking out as a game, if you're into sidescrolling action adventure games!

  5. Voted! And also listened to Supercoolmike's version - really glad to hear that one too! I like the deliberate, steady pacing with the beat & the synthy feel (quite similar to the FM-synthy sound of the original (at least the Adlib version, and the PC-88 versions of other tracks from the game I've been able to hear). I think this would've fit MnP very well. I liked the original bits & didn't think they were too far from the source material. The mix could be more balanced (more consideration for what's on the front, and what's on the background - generally it sounds quite loud) and I might have some specific nitpicks about additional writing, but overall, really cool arrangement!

    What a round! Awesome. :D
