  1. That's a great title, quite evocative.
  2. Hi! Since there was a bit of discussion about People's Remix Competition in the thread you started, I wanted to invite you to take a look at the current round: http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC277

I've picked a Shining Force II source, as it's the 20th anniversary of the western release this year, and I'd love to see some more arrangements come out!

  3. Hi Jonathan! Since you mentioned PRC recently, I'd like to invite to take a look at the current round: http://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/PRC277 I've picked a Shining Force II source, since it's the 20th anniversary (of the western release) of the game, and I'd love to see some more arrangements of this somewhat underappreciated soundtrack!

  4. No! Well ok, maybe it'll be harder to find people with arguably thinner fanbase than Final Fantasy, but still worthwhile (case in point Be Agressive!). And there's geeks like me who think it's good to devote your resources to some stuff that hasn't been done yet. Anyway, I'm not really saying anything new. Good luck with the project!
  5. Yes! Thank you for getting the round up so quickly, Bundeslang! Indeed, this is a bit of a special source selection. It is a great piece from a great soundtrack to a great game, and the timing is good too. I do think the source can be arranged in many fashions and I hope to see some entries! And don't forget the small bonus prize
  6. (practically the main theme of the game) is now the source for People's Remix Competition round 277!The source has great melodies going for it, but also some delicious compositional complexity. I believe many different approaches can be taken for several kinds of enjoyable results! As a bonus prize, I have pledged to gift the winner a copy of the game on Steam. I look forward to hearing people's entries!
  7. I have sent my choice in. I do hope many decide to participate, it is for a good cause! =)
  8. WIP 2014-08-06 I should be doing many other things with my time, but I listened to the WIP on my MP3 player and it clicked to me what to do with the structure. There's a hole in the instrumentation in the middle, but the overall structure should be about there. Needs more variation since there's a little copy paste in the end, and the beat comes back to full speed a little too soon maybe, but it's getting close!
  9. Excellent revision once again, the tweaks did a lot! I can't think of anything to nitpick now. Niiiiiice!
  10. A WB3 project is needed for motivation. ;)

  11. doooooo iiiiiiiiitt One reason to do a remix project is to get some underappreciated stuff covered, btw.
  12. I could just as well claim Master System Sonic 1 including Green Hill Zone & Bridge Zone, if those are available. I have that arrangement idea and I always need extra motivation..
  13. Thanks for the pointers! I can hear the bells figure, that's the bass line indeed. With the other usage, I can hear the rhythmic pattern, and your piece's melody going in the same direction (up, down, up) in the first phrase, but the intervals are different. I can kinda feel now it's pointed out to me but I do think it's too far off.
  14. You need to finish your Wonder Boy 3 mix from PRC211! Just listened to it, it's pretty good!

  15. Glad you're on board with my crazy shit! Yeah no WIP today. rRPC probably owns my music time this week, but I'll get to it ASAP!
  16. I do find the balance better now! Nice work! One thing that I notice is that some of the long sustained leads in the middle (2:04-2:30) have no rests to them, having some (and thus letting the backing "surface" a bit in those sections) might give it some more sense of room so to speak, and more rhythmic interest, especially the first lead. At 1:48 there's a harp note that sounds off-harmony to me. Man, does that bug me now that I noticed it.
  17. When listening through the Legacy album, this tracks always jumps out of the playlist in a very positive way. It's a very nice addition to the album, it adds even more variety and always makes me smile. The rock kit is still sticking out of the mix, maybe just by being a touch too loud or lacking the reverb the other instrumentation seems to have. Their stereo placement seems too wide too: it sounds like you're listening to the band/orchestra from a bit of distance, and you'd expect the full kit to be at a single spot, but (unless I'm hallucinating) the cymbals and toms seem panned to the sides. That's about the only thing I have to criticize the piece. Joe's contributions blend absolutely seamlessly and without doubt add to the whole greatly, but it's hard for me to separate them since they fit in so well! Super fun track and I'm glad to see this posted (and happy to see Bluelighter get posted too), and I'm happy to see how hard everyone worked to bring it to this level!
  18. I always love Palpable's mixes. Great vocals from both performers. I like how the second verse raises intensity, and how the third verse is also different - very nice, natural, unconventional structure. I like the understated ending. The only crit I can think of is that the first verse is a little buried in the mix.
  19. Single-screen duel games are my favourite way to spend time (well top 3 at least). The reinforcement idea is new to me and looks very very promising. And Linux support? I certainly want to play this and I mean what I voted on that Greenlight page. I also appreciated the sprite rotation/scaling stuff in the trailer? Is the trailer music going to be in the game?
  20. Heh, me too. Actually, one of the most liberating things I read from Rozovian's guide was the suggestion to not fret about mastering (or finalizing, as he calls it) and focus on mixing first. For the master channel in the end, I still pretty much just use the basic maximizer DSP that comes with Renoise and pump up the volume to some agreeable level that doesn't start sounding bad, and if there's some problem, I go back to mixing, where I probably just have to adjust levels or EQ. That's also true. I tried to migrate from trackers to Cubase, but I just couldn't get going. Thankfully I found Renoise.
  21. I want to make sure that the arrangement idea is doable anyway.. but thanks, I have too little time, and rRPC final round begins later today I think. We discussed the concept with Tuberz and we are HYPED!
  22. How's the headphones? Sorry to hear about the gear trouble, hope you get back to music making soon!

  23. I couldn't really hear the Pokey's theme in either.. didn't try super-hard, but tried listening to Pokey and the tracks back-to-back. Some help? Still, both are great tracks & the Icewind Dale piece is in there very clearly & cleverly.
  24. Okay, I pretty much agree what timaeus222 said. A tiny bit more TLC here and there. Generally, I felt that some of the leads were blaring just a little too hot, but I wanted to check with some comparison. Haven't done that, but now that timaeus brought it up too I thought I'd second it. I liked the harp sound too! Good development and progression throughout the piece as always (I complimented this way back then already). I like that I never feel that your pieces have a blocky AABA, ABCD or whatever structure, but that they always flow like narratives. Keep up the good!
  25. Awesome. I remember the round. :> Pretty good I'd say! If I can I'll try to give a closer listen soon, I need to compare with some chip-heavy stuff if there's anything to point out. I thought there was enough variety of sounds and depth in the instrumentation and mixing, though it was still decidedly chiptuney. Some nice stereo detail and processing on the leads.
