  1. Another great mix from you. I'll second that there's some cleaning up that needs to be done to the vocals, since they don't seem to line up with the beat too well. It's like you line up the sound exactly at where it starts, but with vocal stuff it makes more sense to line up the beginning of the vowels to the beat - lining up the consonants make the vocal beats seem off. I'd also like to see some more mechanical splicing of the vocal lines. I mean, you're going with the robo vocals, here - you best go all the way with it. Admittedly, it doesn't sound too much like the source, to me. You should get a second opinion, but I think it's a touch liberal for the site. Maybe I need to give it another listen... It's a neat idea for a classic track. Let's see some updaaaates
  2. Just post your track in the WIP forums and people can help you there. Theoretically I don't think there's a genre bias when it comes to the actual judging process - it just needs to be up to production speed and incorporate the source in a significant fashion without sounding exactly like the source. But... yeah, just post in the WIP forum - that's what it's there for. BTW, I like the cheesy word/lyric incorporation in both tracks. That's probably just me, though. If you're gonna go posting songs in a thread, at least make sure there's a video of a in there.
  3. Be sure to keep the beginning of that OCR track, for best effect. Also, congratulations
  4. That was awesome. Very nice work integrating so many themes to the style of MGS. You got me laughing with the ship, though - brilliant crossover. Great work to the whole team (and especially to you for the music, since... you know, it's the music, and this is a VG music site, and... yeah).
  5. If you want to make a claim, make a decent WIP. Then it'll be your track. I won't be accepting claims otherwise, though, so if someone else produces then they'll get the track. Geoffrey had a similar system in place for the Donkey Kong project, so it's not unheard of.
  6. I don't know what you were looking for, Brandon - a free claim to a track? It's no different than it's been running since I've held the project; if someone fulfills the requirements to a track then they can have the track. I just can't take empty claims anymore, they don't have much meaning after two years of waiting. Hopefully if people put effort into a track when they make a claim then they'll follow through with the track a bit more consistently. At least that's the theory behind it. Let's see where it goes from here.
  7. I beat Silver Surfer on the NES. Oh yeah, I did. I got over 2 million points in the practice mode in Kirby's Avalanche (I was at Lv. 99 for about 3 hours). It was intense. I got the code to the Facility in Golden eye 100% legit. I beat X-com by carrying a sectoid from the last section, mind controlling it, giving it a laser gun and having it kill the final boss on the hardest setting. I've also got the game down to a 2 hour runthrough (one day I'll get it to one hour and beat the record, dammit). I probably did other things too, but I think my epeen is big enough, for now.
  8. Alright, as I've said before, if people didn't get in touch with me before the deadline then they would lose their claim. There are a few that haven't gotten in touch, so unfortunately a couple of claims are going to be knocked off the list. If you're one of those that lost the claim but still want to do the track then send me a substantial WIP and your claim will be restored. I hate to do this, but the project must move on - some of these claims are two years old, and the sources are too good to leave alone like that. If you're a remixer that's been looking to get on the project and have been looking at some of the claimed tracks, take another look, since some really good tracks have opened up. If you're not already on board, feel free to make a claim. Until a WIP with some work done is shown and accepted, however, there will be nothing special about your claim, and you could lose it if someone else makes a WIP with some work done for the track in question. Feel free to claim tracks in this thread, but don't expect to hold them if you do not present a WIP with some work done to back the claim up. If you send a track and it's dubbed 'Rough WIP' then I will list you on the project, but your track will not be 'safe' if someone else produces a more complete track. Conversely, if you see a track you want and it's in the rough state then please start working on something. Not to be cruel, but it'll either be accepted as an album track (at the cost of the other person's track) or it'll push the original mixer to write something to save his/her track (and both outcomes are great, for this project). I'm pushing to get this project as far as possible before Bahamut gets back, so if you want to join in then bring something substantial to the table. For those that are new to the project (or only have a rough WIP from the last deadline) I'd like to see something with some work done by August 12th. There's a good chance that Bahamut will be coming back by then, and I'd like to see as many new faces as possible on the project as a gift to him. For those that already are at that landmark the due date for substantial progress will be September 15th. Pending on Bahamut's opinion on this, those that do not submit something significant by then will not have any special claim to the track (and that includes my own Shrine track... I better get to work finishing that!). Pending on Bahamut's opinion on it, of course. If you're on this list then you've lost your claim. If you want to get back onto the project then please PM me with a WIP with some work on it. Prophet (formerly claimed by Ergosonic and Daragen) Rumbling (formerly claimed by hoha) Tranquility (formerly claimed by Dr. Manhattan and Harjawaldar) The Earth (formerly claimed by halc) Battle #1 (formerly claimed by OA) The One Who Will Save the Earth (formerly claimed by Monobrow and Protricity) I know some of you have contacted me and said you're still interested in the project, so please just send something in and you'll be placed back onto the project, no problem.
  9. Y'all have today to get something in. If you haven't contacted me yet then please do so. If you haven't (and don't by tomorrow) then I'm afraid you lose your claim to the track, and I'd really, really hate to see that happen to any of you. Alright, hope to see something come up.
  10. Considering I got entirely into contemporary composition from arranging VG tracks, I take some offense to that, Neblix. It's a great way to dip your feet into the water when you're unsure of what you're doing, and if you have no previous experience in a DAW then it's quite a bit to ask someone to learn how to compose AND deal with the issues of a DAW at the same time. That's not to mention that you can learn a great deal about composing by really delving deep into another person's track (remixing a track throws you deeper into a piece of music than anything else possibly could). But to each his/her own - composing originals is perfectly fine, too. Reason presets will take you quite far, so I wouldn't worry too much about them yet. When the time comes that there is a particular sound that you want and it's not provided for you, then you'll branch out from them, but for simply learning the ropes they should be just fine. When it comes to learning the program, start getting used to the direction of flow from your synths & samplers (this is easy to see, by the way, by hitting 'TAB' on your mixer window). The sooner you understand how transitivity works in the program the sooner you'll really have fun with it. Other than that... yeah. Do what you want just to get something on the page - if you like VG music then making an arrangement might be a fun way to learn, and if you like improvising a tune that's perfectly acceptable, as well. There's no wrong way to do these things, so just be sure to have fun.
  11. ... Oh shit, BoF music? If I can find the time, I'm there.
  12. OHSHI- Didn't see this, for some VERY STRANGE reason. Answer - Yes, there are some new members, and things are moving forward. I'm impressed with some of the new entries (and hopefully I'll get even more in the next week or so). Best wishes, hope to have a whole lot done here when you get back.
  13. If Kyle's response to this thread doesn't fulfill the request then I don't know what will (unless Sixto decides to bring one out on the table, which would be fucking amazing).
  14. Dear God, this is awesome. Vocals are amazing. Sax was amazing. Brass was sexy. Guitar was epic. Seriously, if anyone has any complaints on this one... no, that's just not possible. This is too good for that. EDIT: Also, HA, nice cumshot at the end.
  15. If you'd noticed, I haven't been around to vote for either (though I plan on doing so these next rounds), so I don't know where you get the idea that I would vote for people blindly. Read my message again - it's a callout for the two newer mixers to step up their game so they pose a credible challenge to the two established mixers. It's insulting that you'd think I'd vote for a person without listening to the arrangements in their entirety.
  16. No worries bLiNd - you're easily covered for this deadline. I'm really looking for people that either gave a very rough draft a long time ago or for people that have made claims ages ago but haven't pulled through yet. And thanks Darangen - now's the time to pull something together.
  17. Now it's your job to make sure Willrock vs Prophetik doesn't happen. That or Theguitahheroe's job. Let's see some fresh blood for the final matchup.
  18. He said IMO, therefore it isn't a sweeping generalization. I just avoid using 'real' instruments for now, because Reason is not the best tool for emulating them. As a Reason user I'd say stick to using real performers (though your combinator set wasn't too bad, in all honesty). There may be some great programs to use for guitar in particular out there, and it may be easier for some people to emulate it than to play it (people tend to forget that it takes a lot of time to play any instrument to a satisfactory level, and people are not always available to do it for you), but Reason really can't handle any of them, unfortunately. Curse you, lack of third party support!
  19. Sexy shit, here. Going to mimic the comments on the clipping, though - that square bass is running really hot, and some other sounds are clipping, as well (and that's not counting the sidchaining, which while great for the straight four to the floor sections is excessive for the more complicated drum patterns). The arrangement needs some expanding. It just sounds incomplete, as it is. What you have is awesome, but it sounds like half a song, right now. Other than that, this one is great. Fix the chiptune tracks so they don't run so hot and expand it - from there you might have yourself an easy 'yes' on the panels. I'm surprised this source hasn't gotten more attention on OCR, actually; it's some pretty awesome stuff.
  20. Alright, better give this thread some attention, here - deadline's coming up and I've been out of town all month. If anyone's been trying to get a hold of me and send me a PM of their updates then I apologize, since my PM box filled up while I was away. If you sent me something within the last two weeks you'll likely need to resend it. Otherwise... Yeah, this is a general message saying that the deadline I had on the first post is tomorrow. HOWEVER, I've been off track on this lately so I'm giving this a one week extension. For those that have sent a PM to me and given updates and such, great! For those that haven't though (and don't get anything in by the deadline) then while you hold the track it becomes open to whomever wants to send a more complete WIP for the track (much like my policy on unclaimed tracks are, as it stands). This may be harsh, but the project needs to move on. The names that are on the red tracks are great artists, and the sources are amazing, but if there's no activity or contact made soon then I'll have no choice but to open them up again. If you can't make the deadline but still want to hold the track please PM me and we'll work something out. Alright, I'll be seeing y'all on July 8th. Let's see some awesome music come this way, here.
  21. I have been summoned from another thread to give you some revie... Aha! This track once again! Man, I remember this one from ages ago. Let's see how you approach it this time. Very fun take. I'm going to go on a limb here and say that the synths are a bit vanilla, though. The lead is alright, though it's a bit too thin. I'll double the snare dry problem. Like you said, there are times where it works (kind of), but it isn't meshing with most of the track very well. As for the tempo increases, perhaps you can somehow set the snare up so that note cutoff cuts the sound off as well... Meh, something to try, anyway. The arrangement is pretty good. I suggest playing around with the melody a little bit, though - it sounds a little on the conservative side, and varying the melody could give it some real life. Production is nice. I likes it. Yeah, it's pretty good, though I think there's still some work ahead of you. It's much better than your mix from 2009, though - always great to be able to see improvement like that.
  22. Huh. Y'know, for all the crap SquareEnix gets, I've noticed that some of my favorite games from recent years are from that company (either created or produced by them, anyway). Saga2 DS remake (with the fan translation, of course), TWEWY, DQIX... Perhaps their FF franchise isn't doing so hot right now (I haven't been in the console market for almost a decade so I can't say) but there are certainly some great games that they still produce. I suppose that's just me, though - to each his own, here.
