  1. Sure, I'm up for it. Short album all based on the exact same source - sounds like fun.
  2. First, if this track is 'old' then go pick a Dynamite Headdy track soon, else we might not be able to do it. Second, indeed I have used the 1e&a system, SoulinEther, but only because Hewhoisiam reminded me of it's existence - all credit goes to him . Another alternative is the boom-a-chick-a method (one-a-chick-a-two-a-chick-a... etc.), since we're one the subject. Third, if you want to join ORC, click my sig (don't worry, bro, I'm working on one for this round). Don't worry, Hoboka knows of this compo - he currently holds the record for the fastest submission ever (what was it, 8 hours?). Now that I've ranted, let's look at the remix, shall we? Even if you don't continue, it can still be helpful, I'm sure. You've changed a shitload since I last heard it... and for the better, mostly. I like the variety that you've given this song. It's not too bad - for the most part you keep me interested through the whole thing, so good job (the previous track I heard didn't do that for me). I like the sense of space, overall. It fills out nicely, giving my ears something tasty to eat. Some of the synths are still incredibly cheezy, but at this point it's all personal taste, so if you like them keep them. The 'live' instruments add a nice element to it all. The only real complaint is that you really don't explore too much outside of the source melodies, harmonies and form. That is a killer, with this source, but you've managed to make it work alright despite this. While I'm sure everyone in here is being helpful, but for the last two crits they seemed to be a bit... specific. I know it's all a good intention, but remember - this IS Hoboka's song, so critiques that fundamentally try to recompose the music will hurt more in the long run than more general statements. Gotta give the guy some room to compose, here. Don't worry, I still love you guys . And Hewhoisiam, indeed, owes me a Laguna remix. Better hurry, though - March is already halfway over!
  3. Aww... your already doing one? I was going to join that bandwagon and try one myself, but we'll see. At least it's being done. Wait a minute - holy shit, you're that guy, aren't you? lol, welcome to OCR, dude! I'll start by saying it's very quiet... I can barely hear it and everything is on full, for me. It needs to go up in volume, considerably. Wow, three minutes? I didn't know - it just seemed to work, so good job keeping me interested, for the most part (the source is limiting, so getting that much is an accomplishment). Even still, I don't know how long you're planning on going with this one, but be careful, as you're starting to fall into the rut that the source will create for you. Be sure to change it up a little, soon. While the drums are nice, they are terribly repetitive. Change it up, periodically, even if it's just with a simple fill. Not bad... not bad at all. Keep it going, and join the project that you unknowingly started (SINGLE SONG ALBUM!! WOOT!).
  4. I'm in... and so is the original Youtube poster (he's got a one-up on all us guys, already ). I was going to remix this anyway, but now there's incentive!
  5. Thanks for the input, Nutritious! I'll probably tone down the panning in the intro and fade it down a bit so the transition hits a little harder. Yeah, I'm still working on :57 and 1:09 - I hear it, but haven't gotten to it yet (working on getting rid of the hot fuzz, which I think I took care of, for the most part). It's mostly one of the synths that's taking all the room on top... I turned him down, but it's probably not enough. We'll see what I can do about the transitions (I agree 2:37 is not that great, and I'm sure some of the others are nothing special, either). I know how to do decent transitions, but I wrote this in... a day, for the laughs? I also have a thing for sudden transitions, so some of those might stay, just 'cause I like em'. As for my synth bass, I don't know what I can do with it to make it more interesting. Sadly, that's the best sample I found, and since I'm using Reason 3.0 that limits my options to whatever is on the program, pretty much (no vst compatibility ). Putting effects on a bass is a no-no, since it not only takes up space in the lows, but also in the highs so I'd be shooting myself in the foot if I tried to 'spice it up' with effects (woo for basic acoustics)... Besides, there are four other basses in there that make appearances, so if one isn't interesting maybe one of the others will be . Perhaps I can make the other synths more interesting, though. I'll work on some of that (although the chips obviously stay cheezy - that's what they're there for). Too much noise... I hope you don't mean the gunshots, 'cause I'm leaving them in, sorry . Otherwise... I understand where you're coming from, but I do like the texture of the piece, as it is. I may turn some down and emphasize others, however, to give a little more room. Again, thanks for critiquing this - while I like praise (who doesn't?), good criticism is far more valuable, in the long run.
  6. Alrighty, after a slight bit of embarrassment (after claiming this track has no errors in production ), I've revised it to (hopefully) fix what Cyril and Nutritious heard... and I added some sidechaining. Man with the Golden Machine Gun (Fixed) Interesting, Nutritious, I never thought to use a program like that to check for clipping and heat... Goddammit, how the hell did I ever manage?! That's going to help me out in so many things in the future. Thanks a lot for the picture . Compressing the entire song into half a screen width will still get you a similar looking picture, even after the changes, but if you expand it you'll notice it has considerably fewer moments where the peaks flatten out (although there are a few that are still there - whether or not I go back to fix those depends on if anyone notices them when they listen to it). Thanks for the help, and enjoy once again!
  7. Yeah, just downloading some random stuff, for sure... At least, I hope you are. Oh, and if you want to post some original music on here, Wolf Blitzer, there are threads for that here, too . Anyway, Welcome to OCR!
  8. I'm always ready. Just say when and I'm there - although I normally play on West, I'll change over to East, for this . March 23 fo sho'? Channel OCR? Let's crank this shiznat up, while listening to DKC2: SMB... Even after all this crap, I'm always ready for another go on D2, sadly.
  9. Yes, a shameless time to start... Good luck with this! I dunno, Maverickk, I think 'Sequel to Serious Monkey Business' would be an excellent subtitle to this project .
  10. Just letting you know, Liontamer and crew, that this is one of my favorite tracks on the album, hands down. It's surprisingly well done, even with the appropriately dubbed "Whiter than Wonderbread" rapping (actually, it wouldn't have worked as well if it was anything else, imho)... Yeah, if anyone gives you flack for this screw em' - we need more mixes like this one on here, lol.
  11. Pretty much pissing my pants, right now. I suspect this may be my favorite album release on here, to date... and I have yet to listen to the whole thing. David Wise produced a incredible track, but so far I'm giving Virt's track a listen and proclaiming it as the best one on here... so far. Of course, gotta give David Wise credit - without him, this whole project would never have existed . Yeah, a remix album of one of my favorite soundtracks... Until there's a FFVI remix album that comes out soon I'm pretty sure this one's going to top my list for a long time. Great work, everyone. Oh yeah, and your prayer is awesome, 99.
  12. DOUBLE POST!! I know how I can respond to this - why the hell don't you make something for this glorious site?? Shame on you.
  13. Hey DS - shoot me a PM with the MIDI and I can score it in Sibelius 6, if you'd like. Get all the dynamics, break it into parts, all that good stuff if you need it. Or I could dictate it from the Mp3, but that would take understandably longer .
  14. Alright, I suspect I know what it is that's clipping now - I'll fix it up asap. Thanks again.
  15. Alright, I'll look for it and fix it up. Thanks, dude. By the way, where exactly? I wouldn't post that I was confident that it didn't have any loss unless I didn't hear it, lol.
  16. Oh my god. Protodome is, indeed, teh bestest mixer lol. How else can I respond to this?
  17. Hmm... (You got the dreaded 'Hmm' from Gario! -10 points, right there!) It seems like your electronic lead is too far in the background. It gets drown by the rhythm guitar, so you should bring that out a bit. In fact, it seems that all the lead parts are getting drown in the mix. Those crashes are WAY TOO LOUD!! I can't hear any music behind them. For some reason the harmonies and melodies do not line up right. I appreciate that you're changing the harmonies a little, but you'll need to change the melody in order to compensate for that. (or change the harmonies a little - those halfstep motions made in the guitar often are the culprit of the dissonance). Yeah, overall it's far too muddy for me to really get a feel for the song. It's probably pretty good (I know you've made some good stuff int he past), but I literally can't hear it past the mud and the dissonance that's covering the track, atm. Sorry, dude - clean it up and I'll be able to get into some more detail on it.
  18. This is the tune in question, if you want to hear it. I don't hear any loss, myself, but if you do let me know ... Funny, I'm listening to this now on a different pair of speakers and I indeed hear a little bit of clipping... I better go back and see if my speakers are deceiving me a bit (the speakers I'm listening to right now aren't exactly top of the line, though...). If so it'll be fixed, I promise, lol. EDIT: I listened to it on my own setup again, and I think what I heard was just the speakers... *Phew* To Mark7 - I appreciate your opinion, and I understand where you're coming from. However, since I said there was no loss in quality you should've assumed that there was no clipping in the track. It was more of a question of whether a track with all other things being equal were, indeed, better loud than soft. That picture just looks like the person who mixed the original track was a moron and didn't know too much compression would make the track sound like a unintelligible mess. Not to mention that, because of the peaks in the GH track, it would be louder than the overcompressed one overall, wouldn't it?Oh, and my ears are still bleeding from your post, Skrypnyk, don't worry.
  19. Sorry - I was distracted and didn't listen to your update . Oh well, I'll give this one a stab, now that I'm here . The melodic variations help your cause out a lot. Now we're going to need to change up the harmonies a little... At least, hang out in one area for a longer/shorter time so the listener doesn't grab onto the harmonic pattern as easily (that's how I tried to handle the problem on the Laguna track, anyway - might work for you too). The instruments are a touch low-fi... I'm sure you know, but it needs to be said. The effects help them out considerably, though. I'd suggest introducing different sounds to take over the same jobs every once in a while; that'll keep the sounds you have fresh. Minimalist tracks can work, but I'm not seeing this one working as a minimalist song... Yeah, hewhoisiam is right that the track is a bit on the short side, so it'd be nice to hear more of the arrangement so we can hear how it flows (can't really comment on the structure much, as it is). MARCH IS LAGUNA MONTH!! Get something up here, dude...
  20. Wow, an official OCR challenge issued from Youtube, eh? Interesting... Sounds like it could make an incredible minimalist remix, to me.
  21. You would if you could, Luke. You would if you could.
  22. Well, I submit it. If it goes through, great, if not you guys'll always have this version to listen to (I think it'll pass, though - got a hunch about this one). Oh, if there's still something wrong with it and you held out on me, I can still fix it so let me know . MARCH IS LAGUNA MONTH!
  23. That is called cheating, Neblix .
  24. Good point... I didn't even think about that, as a matter of fact . Thanks for the response, Nase. Time to go sub it, I guess.
