Are there any games you guys play over and over again?
Blue123 replied to atmuh's topic in General Discussion
Traffic Department 2192. So overlooked. The gameplay wasn't the best, but the storyline and depth made up for it. -
Made with Game Maker, eh? I haven't touched that in a while...

Some awesome stuff, both the music and cover art!

Heh, RA1. Although not my favourite, it's great because of it's easy mod-ability using .ini files.

Really good. My favourite of them all has got to be the Jungle track. Man, I'd kill to get my hands on those sounds...

Hmm, I remember my physics teacher talking to me about this. He said that when perfected it should be perfectly safe as the waves (or something) aren't powerful or of the right type to damage the human body. Actually, I'm not sure if he said that, but it was something along those lines. I'd better stop before I look like a cock.

Niiiiiice work. Very emotional playing! And in the military, in Iraq, eh? That must be some feat. Anyway, keep at it!

Help configuring my MIDI Keyboard please!
Blue123 replied to Helo's topic in Music Composition & Production
I think it's to do with your input options. Is your keyboard plugged into your soundcard? Whatever may be the case, you may still have to enable the keyboard in the input by itself; I've screenshotted my setup so you can have a look. It works for me, anyway. -
Something along the lines of this. Get yourself a small portfolio. Perhaps do a few indie games, and if those are good, send off your work and plaster it around for people to see.

Symphobia - have it, amazing

It's not that BAD. And of course, the more everyone else suck the easier it is for us Although personally, I actually found the great composers such as Beethoven boring. Every time I went to see their pieces in concert I ended up falling asleep or leaving halfway. I'd take Jeremy Soule's work on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets over all of Beethoven's works (no offence though... man was a genius, but his stuff just doesn't suit me). Guess I'm some sort of weird composer inspired by the modern composers more than the classics. -
Audacity is more of a program to use in order to slightly tweak things, but not to create long pieces in. It's more suitable towards small sound clips, I used to use it a lot to create sound effects for games. A DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is where you'll probably spend most of your time. It's a bit hard for me to explain, but Wikipedia does a good job. Some of the ones used around here are likely to be: FL Studio, Cubase, and Reason.

Wow, that is good... I think the extras you get (i.e. the ambiece and ethnic patches) are worth it alone. I think I'll keep this in mind, for when I get some extra cash. I'm poor at the moment, LOL. -

This does sound pretty good, actually... but it does have soloist players, right? Or not? Like a solo trumpet, solo horn, solo violin, solo trombone, etc. That's the only thing about this that irks me a bit. It's very expensive, and I like to know a lot about what I buy. The instrument listing on the website didn't really tell me much. In fact, it seemed pretty small. If I get this, I might use EWQL with it to provide the stuff that it doesn't have... i.e. a Piano. -
The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!
Blue123 replied to Mahaboo's topic in General Discussion
Greetings to all. Well, unfortunately, I'm not much of a remixer myself. I'm more of an original composer, but I'm pretty slow at the moment as I can't work technology... I have a copy of FL Studio 8, GPO and no idea on how to make it work. All the tutorials out there just confuse me. Erk. Anyway, my musical journey has been quite a varied one. I've always found popular stuff to be a bit boring, and I've also found traditional classical to be more boring. So I didn't really listen to music, but then I came across this game. It was TimeSplitters4- don't ask why this one, because even I don't know- and as I was playing through some of the levels, I thought, "Hmm, there's some pretty good music in here". From then on, well, I started to pay more attention to the soundtracks of games and movies that I saw. Now I'm hooked. Someday I'd like to be a great composer for video games. My dream is to score a load of anime shows. It's some ambition. Thanks and great to be here, Andy -

Hmm, not bad... but I'm more of a fan of the stuff from EW/QL. Looking at it, the Dystopia II that's in it seems pretty appealing to me. -
Finale vs. Mixing Software
Blue123 replied to DigitalDevilDrums's topic in Music Composition & Production
I agree with Sil. I've been using Sibelius for a few years now, and nothing else. Although it's got some very nice functions and works quite well generally, the playback in it is it's weakest point. It now supports VSTs, but it can be a bit of a hassle to set them up correctly. Another thing it does is attempt to interpret and emulate the score to play it back like real performers- but again, this is a relatively weak function. Beyond that, and the articulation markings, there's not much you can do to adjust the sound and velocities of what you've got, which leads to everything sounding rather mechanical and "rigid." I'm learning how to use FL Studio, but I'm failing at it. And pretty epically as well. Also, I'm new here too. This thread helped me a lot as well, so thank you...
