Nice; never would have guessed Vegas, either... I know it's flexible, but I don't think I've seen anyone put together animation with it like this before. Or maybe I have and I just didn't realize...

ReMixer & Composer Merged into "Artist", Change Near-Complete
djpretzel replied to djpretzel's topic in Announcements
Fixed. And, at least for a good while, no. Links/references on artist pages are designed to be more like encyclopedic, authoritative, controlled sources, and we intend to manage them as such. HOWEVER, once I get forum profiles reintegrated, all the links on your forum profile would show up under that tab, and those you obviously have full control of. Every once in awhile we may run a script to reconcile the two, but for now that's not a huge priority. We've pretty much decided to do blogs in some form, and along with the forum profile integration, I'd try to get the latest blog posts, maybe even a blog tab, on artist profile pages as well. -
ReMixer & Composer Merged into "Artist", Change Near-Complete
djpretzel replied to djpretzel's topic in Announcements
I could code it so that, if an artist has ANY composer credits and their real name differs from their display name, it prefers the real name, but some folks might want it the opposite way. Yeah, I could then have some sort of boolean in the db that tracks who wants what, but then we'd be getting a little crazy. On a different note, I did forget to mention that we've also added a buttload of references for both artists AND games. ReMixers who have one should have their VGMDB profile linked, and many games now have links to gamespot, gamefaqs, IMDB, etc. Word. -
ReMixer & Composer Merged into "Artist", Change Near-Complete
djpretzel replied to djpretzel's topic in Announcements
Nah, good catch. I guess, for now, since we have no composer credits for you, we're good. Aliases ARE fully searchable, btw. As far as when/if this problem crops up and a composer/remixer wants to be credited one way for mixes and another way for games, we might have an issue. I'd vastly prefer to keep it simple... your real name will always be on your profile page. What we COULD do is consistently present real name as an additional field whenever it's different, even on ReMix detail pages. That's the easiest solution. -
Note: This thread will eventually be moved to the Site Feedback forum but for now I wanted more eyes on it. I've been hellaciously busy with both school and work lately, and to make matters worse (in terms of posting new mixes), we've been working on reorganizing our database a bit. It was becoming very silly to store ReMixers and composers in separate tables, because: There are some artists like Jeremy Soule and George Sanger who are both, and hopefully more ReMixers will become composers, and that's a lot of duplicate data entry. Any supporting data (references, images, associations) resulted in another set of duplicate tables. Consolidating the two saves a huge amount of money and passes the savings directly on to you, the consumer. Alright, everything but 3. There are probably more reasons, but the first two were enough. For the technical among you, this is called "normalization," and is almost always a good thing. For everyone, here's what this essentially means: The artists list (and quick search) brings back both mixers and composers ReMixers now have brand-new profile pages. Because we had to move a lot of data around, I went from being ReMixer ID #1 to being #4279 - ex.: http://www.ocremix.org/artist/4279/djpretzel On both lists and detail pages, colorized (sue me, it needed to stand out) labels indicate roles (Composer, ReMixer) and counts for each Soon, existing ReMixer pages will go away, and redirect to these new artist pages. Redirection should stay in place a very long time, but not necessarily indefinitely, so start updating your links. This new structure allows us to add more profile links and multiple images. We'll be sending out an email to ReMixers soliciting photos, updated contact info, birthdate/place info, and cash monies. I'll be working on getting artist feeds reimplemented, forum profiles reintegrated, etc. as I can find the time Thanks for your patience & feedback! -djp

Badass work. What are you using? MAX, Maya? Apologies if you already mentioned it earlier... it'd be really fantastic to get a 110% final, tweaked, perfecto version of OCR-tan so we could do some poses for different areas of the site, to spruce things up a bit, etc. Working with blackmyst turned out to be a bit problematic because our schedules always conflicted, but I still really wanna give OCR-tan a more official presence... UPDATED: Actually, we have a really CRITICAL need for a video logo... something short-and-sweet, that incorporates the main OCR logo in some sort of animation, that we could use as a "header" for any videos we publish. I can supply a vector copy of the logo itself, but maybe OCR-tan could be incorporated, or the guitar, or something involving the headphones logo, etc. Any interest in doing that? We'd be using it for all our official videos, and we REALLY need something...

Which Media Player/Codec Pack do you use?
djpretzel replied to SwordBreaker's topic in General Discussion
VLC & Winamp if there aren't any problems, MPC as a backup for video files that for one reason or another give VLC beef. I hate codec nonsense, having to download a zillion, etc... VLC is a godsend in terms of packaging everything together in a clean way, and their latest update makes the interface at least a lil bit slicker, plus supports AVCHD from my Canon Vixia that Larry was whoring around at MAG... -
I'm apparently so uncool/uninformed that I thought this thread was either about food or infectious diseases...

You've definitely got an idea, here, and a take on the theme I haven't really heard done. My problem is that I feel like the first minute or so is a perfectly acceptable, building introduction that holds a lot of promise, and then... the rest of the track just does the exact same thing, at times with less intensity. I think it'd be nice to work more of the source in, as DZ suggests, but the key shortcoming is that this arrangement, as is, is begging, pleading, & screaming for a lead melody to come in, and it has to have balls. Solo guitar (see if Sixto can quickly collab), solo vocals (mix title IS aria after all, and it could be done), solo... SOMETHING. The piano is anticlimactic and there's not enough of it there... it *could* also work if it was a really baller piano solo, very elaborate, etc., but I think a different lead entirely would be preferable. Even if there isn't a solo that takes over, if you can't find anyone to collab or can't think of something to throw in yourself, the bottom line is that the dynamic needs to go in the opposite direction - the intro builds and develops, and then things just flatline and actually go a notch down in intensity. I'd like to hear this completed because I think the first minute shows promise and is a rendition of the theme (which I love) that I *want* to hear completed, but imo at the moment you've got a really solid intro and that's it.

Word. Good, HARD game... bought it more for the music than with the intention of spending enough time to beat it, but hey. A note/inquiry - there were some projects in 2008 that were started/released that were never brought to my attention as "Official OverClocked ReMix Projects". What does said status mean? Besides a subdomain, free pimpage on OCR, etc., not much, so there's no real disincentive. I'd just appreciate a heads-up that this is indeed going to be an OCR album and then when the deadline draws closer, I'd want to coordinate the release with the powers-that-be, as we're doing now for SoS and will be fairly soon for FF4/DKC2. In other words, lemme know what's up.

Does it need to have the year at all? Can't we just remove the year from the thread title?

Ditto... actually, without the video, not so classic... what's great to me is seeing these very serious 80's dudes walking down the street and rocking out to this version, sync'd up.

It Finally Happened: Keanu to Play Spike in Cowboy Bebop
djpretzel replied to The Damned's topic in General Discussion
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict that it won't be the casting that primarily ruins the movie, but rather the screenplay/director. Also, in my humble opinion, directors should be chosen first and have influence over casting... the director is the single role with the most influence on how the whole thing will turn out, and while Keanu might actually make sense for a given approach, he could easily be an awful selection for another. I didn't see director mentioned anywhere, so I'm assuming Keanu's the only name really attached to the thing. On a side note, whatever happened to this: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2003-05-21/live-action-eva-press-release - ? -

Well, some of this depends on whether rogue is being used as an adjective or a noun. rogue (rg)n. 1. An unprincipled, deceitful, and unreliable person; a scoundrel or rascal. 2. One who is playfully mischievous; a scamp. 3. A wandering beggar; a vagrant. 4. A vicious and solitary animal, especially an elephant that has separated itself from its herd. 5. An organism, especially a plant, that shows an undesirable variation from a standard. adj. 1. Vicious and solitary. Used of an animal, especially an elephant. 2. Large, destructive, and anomalous or unpredictable: a rogue wave; a rogue tornado. 3. Operating outside normal or desirable controls: "How could a single rogue trader bring down an otherwise profitable and well-regarded institution?" Saul Hansell. As a noun, I'd say the suggestions thus far make sense... something sneaky, slithering, and mischievous. Not sure if the Spanish thing in particular makes sense, but it certainly could if those other criteria are met. If it's an adjective, as the title kinda suggests, it's a bit different... I'd say, more surly, raucous, and violent. The image that comes to mind is a biker, and the music that comes to mind is bar-fighting, Thorogood-style rock and roll. Just throwing that out there as another possible angle.
