I've got a LOT of balls. In my court. Yeah. Kanthos did the work; right now I'm working on two things: HD Remix stuff, and vBulletin 3.7 upgrade. The vb upgrade will involve significant changes to member profile pages, so I was waiting for that to seriously focus on the cards.

OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
djpretzel replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Not that I'm aware of... you could do something with RegEx that made assumptions about certain characters, but nothing that would actually go out to the link itself and make sure it's kosher, as that's not possible w/ JavaScript due to security. Fixed. -
OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
djpretzel replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Fixed: the list filters by games with remix count of > 0. This count wasn't being updated. Shouldn't happen again, good catch. Talk to Larry on the source add. Regarding song-specific composer credits, it'd be a huge amount of work for relatively small payoff. We associate composers with games, which is enough work... all other associations can be inferred by associating mixes w/ games, songs w/ games, albums w/ games, etc. If we changed that we'd be creating a buttload of additional data entry, which I want to avoid. It makes sense to me on the surface. I guess the only reason vB devs may have avoided it is that it's a free-form link, which people might tend to populate with links to spam, malware, etc.... the Yahoo, last.fm, etc. icons are locked down to those specific URLs, so they're pretty safe. Now, granted, you can click on the URL from the user's profile field, which means the risk is still there, but it's multiplied when it's on every single post. I dunno, I definitely see the value, I'm just concerned on this specific point... -
CHIPAMP: PSF (PS1 & PS2 music) support
djpretzel replied to Moogle!'s topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Agreed. Also agreed that it needs an update... working on it. Gonna stick with SNESAmp for the reason above plus RSN support... as far as VGM support, I'd like to see more documentation... the file linked is hosted on a site that doesn't seem to refer to it directly. Accuracy is a concern, but it's not the only concern... -

Well, we're insanely off-topic, but since NoVa is the new home of MAG it's not too much of a stretch. Hell, it's also relevant to Fallout 3... It would have been hard, at the time the metro was developed, to anticipate the insane growth of FX and Loudoun counties, esp. w/ regards to IT. They could have at least picked a better bidder for construction, but that's another story. The rumored purple line would be a big improvement, that's for sure. As far as similar-looking condo/townhouse developments... no moreso than other areas. Actually, having lived here all my life, I can tell you the difference between Chantilly, Fairfax, Falls Church, Vienna, Oakton, Arlington, etc., and there really is significant variation and history to each. There's also cookie-cutter townhouse and condo developments, and the (even more annoying, imo) McMansions where huge houses are constructed 5 feet apart from one another, but there's plenty of older communities with a lot more character all over the place. I'm always amused to hear those from NYC or elsewhere complain about the self-similarity of the burbs when there's plenty of identical apartment buildings with cramped, identical layouts all over big cities as well. You have to look for the areas with character, but they're there, whether you're in an urban, suburban, or rural setting. NoVA single-handedly turned Virginia blue, has some of the best public schools in the country, has tons of historical sites, and as you mentioned, has tons of restaraunt/retail options and a huge job market. The traffic is miserable, but at least there are myriad compensating factors. There wouldn't BE so much traffic if it was a shite place to live.
-
Hey, that's OUR NATION'S CAPITAL to you, bub! I *work* in that pit of taillights. Honestly, Alexandria and the surrounding area in NoVa is just as bad... imo the best way to avoid traffic is to drive ridiculously early or fairly late. Anything after 10pm can usually avoid most of the fuss.

Explain to me this "high definition television"
djpretzel replied to Nekofrog's topic in General Discussion
Really, there is. Again, if you can't tell the difference between 1920x1080 and 720x480, yeah, there's not much difference. But that also means it's time for a new prescription. You can make the good old-fashioned Wii fanboy argument that it's "just higher numbers," but in that case, may as well watch movies in 16x16 monochromatic grid of nearly-indecipherable bliss, with a THX-quality stream of monophonic 11khz audio. Don't get me wrong, I don't like audiophiles that SWEAR they can tell the difference between 96khz and 192khz audio, etc., but in this case it's a pretty obvious difference that the lay person really CAN detect. -
Explain to me this "high definition television"
djpretzel replied to Nekofrog's topic in General Discussion
blocky artifacts sounds like a laggy/bad broadcast stream, agreed with previous poster. Grainy could actually be in the source material - I've got Planet Earth BBC blu-ray, and certain shots are grainy simply because the definition is high enough to expose problems with the original footage. Double-edged sword. I don't know about signal splitting w/ HD... assuming they're splitting either DVI or HDMI, it should be a digital signal and not particularly compromised by splitting. I walk into Circuit Shitty and Best Buy, I see a lot of nice TV s with a great picture, personally. Maybe that varies from area to area? Bottom line... HD is here to stay, I personally find it a significant, meaningful upgrade, and if you can't tell the difference, you need a larger television or better glasses. -
Congratulations & welcome to the club... sounds like you've got your plans together more than we do, at the moment

Why is this site so scared of actually reviewing songs?
djpretzel replied to jfs_87's topic in General Discussion
Part of it is that no one objects to vague praise - you can say something sounds awesome and no one demands further detail. Criticism, however, is really only helpful to the artist when it's more specific. I do wish more folks had the time, even when they like a track overall, to work in some specific criticisms that would potentially help the artists; there's a lot of that on the WIP forums but it could extend to the actual reviews more as well. -

Sad that they're doing a 32-bit version as well; the one thing that would kick software and driver providers out of complacency in terms of optimizing/providing for 64-bit would be 7 going 64 only. Oh well, at least the name sounds better than "Vista"...

Question about legal framework surrounding console games
djpretzel replied to Avatar of Justice's topic in General Discussion
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_Dreams These guys did what you're suggesting, back in the day... it involves reverse engineering because the platforms aren't open, and have protection mechanisms that require going through Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, etc.
