Agree with above comments. Not bad at all, great panning on percussion in particular, but issues as stated need addressing. closing out with 4th no

*NO* Doom 2 'Into Sandy's City (Shotgun Mix)'
djpretzel replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Certainly not bad or hard on the ears, and certainly not a rip, and thus difficult for the judges, but I agree with the call that something *more* is needed and that things feel a little cookie-cutter at times. Closing with 4th no. -

Your original statement that hardly anything was changed and that I "really didn't do much" was the only real point of contention for me, and I'm glad you admit now that this is incorrect. In the future, since you now know that you can be wrong about something, I recommend not boasting about being in the 99.9th percentile of anything or touting degrees, but instead arguing your case based on its merits. As for being "on your ass" - $10 from radio shack LITERALLY could do better. The comment was sarcastic but also very true. I recommend asking around our ReMixing forum for assistance, because even with very limited resources, better results can be produced, and have been.

Thanks; sounds good to me. The melody isn't EXACTLY the same - I should have added in an "almost" due to the noticeable interval change. I was also only referring to the first half of the phrase, the second half having nothing to do with the original at all. To me, "almost exactly" means "easily recognizable", which in this instance I think it is. This is why the helpful diagram qualified the statement. It's not just ONE substitution for one chord, it's the whole progression, friend. It's different. Whole darn thing. It's not rhythmically the same, either, I might add. Basically, take away the melody, and you'd have no real clue it was a Zelda mix. You really need to come to grips with this and stop arguing back with weak statements that only address a SINGLE chord. The ENTIRE progression is changed. Any music theory class should have taught you enough to know this, or even just looking at the MIDI files. Now, if you wanna make a criticism like "you dumbed down the chord progression" or "I like the original chord progression better", those are both FINE opinions. But if you try to insist it's very similar and that very little was changed, you come off as laughable from a factual perspective, and still don't seem to get that more than one chord has been changed, even when the files are right in front of you. Let me repeat: the files are right in front of you. Listen to them. Look at them. Compare them. PLEASE. I'm not worried that we don't understand what you're trying to say, but I *am* worried that you're not understanding us, although I'm not sure how much clearer I can make things. I posted the two MIDI files, I posted the chart, you can see for yourself, the progression is clearly NOT the same. It's not that one chord has been "substituted", it's that ALL chords have been substituted, and the rhythm altered as well. If you want to spend any more time convincing anyone that you're right, explain how a chord progression that shares not a SINGLE chord in common with the original is somehow only a small change. Well, thanks for at least showing us you're not some entirely crazy person who's never even touched a musical instrument. A couple recommendations: Better recording equipment. A $10 tape recorder from Radio Shack would be an improvement. Remove "The One and Only" from file names

Then back it up with evidence, not claims of being some super-slick and extensively educated guru. That's not backing anything up, that's flaunting credentials we can't even verify. Do you see the difference, perhaps? Speaking of backing things up, I decided I'd help you out. You're clearly operating under the impression you've offended me by not liking my mix. You haven't. After 65 mixes, some of which even I don't like, I'm well-prepared for things not to sit well with people. However, what does offend me is how awfully, terribly wrong you are, and how you're insisting on invoking some hoohaa education and having amazing ears, when this is a very clear matter which can be investigated quite easily without resorting to name-dropping or bragging. This is where I think I can help you. here is a helpful diagram: http://www.ocremix.org/etc/zelda64_pachelbel_notes/zelda64_pachelbel_comparison.png It illustrates the respective melodies and chord progressions for the portion of the piece in question, and even has a helpful color-coded legend. Also, here is the electric piano part, covering chords and melody, from my mix: http://www.ocremix.org/etc/zelda64_pachelbel_notes/zelda64_pachelbel.mid as compared to the original: http://www.ocremix.org/etc/zelda64_pachelbel_notes/zelda64_original.mid Hopefully you now realize the above statement is wrong, not only in terms of noun-pronoun agreement, but on a musical level. I'd ask for my money back. Also, rather than TELLING us you've written your OWN songs, SHOW us - link us to them. This connects back to the whole concept of "backing things up" - see, we've come full circle! In summation, hopefully this diagram and these MIDI files assist you in some way. I don't mind people criticizing my music one bit, and I do so myself so it'd be hypocritical to be hypersensitive, but I *do* mind FUD, and I do mind fallacy being defended by those with nothing to offer as evidence except their egos.

Sorry, had to respond here because this was amusing; from a certain perspective, if I respond to comments like these, I look petty and overly defensive. This post in particular implodes upon itself via its own devices, needing no real assistance on my part. But sometimes people are just so inarguably wrong that not correcting them could give OTHER people the wrong idea and spread FUD. I'm not going to defend the piece on subjective grounds, but rather on objective grounds: if you specifically think this chord progression in any way resembles the chord progression from the original, your "powerful ear" still needs yet more power. The melody is the same, the progression entirely different. If anyone else doubts this, I can post objective evidence, namely MIDI files, indicating the discrepancy, but frankly, I think it's so awfully self-evident that even those with a "weak and ignominious ear" could hear the difference. In other words, I'm not calling anyone out on not liking this piece - that's a matter of opinion. But if someone's gonna say the chord progression is largely unaltered, that's an egregiously incorrect and easily disproven claim.

Original is in source tunes folder, Darxide (Source tune).mp3 Remixer Name: AkumajoBelmont Game Remixed: DarXide OCRemix Name: 'Starman (don't lose yourself)' Platform: Sega 32X Original Composer(s): Adam Salkeld & Richard Jacques Heyah:) I've chosen to remix this track from the 32X game 'DarXide'. It's an awesome 3D update of Asteroids that had a fantastic soundtrack, and great graphics and gameplay. Obscure games need more recognition, and DarXide is one such game. Thankfully it is available for Symbian phones and Pocket PC's, so those of you with that hardware available to you, i URGE you to hunt this game down! I have a Nokia 6600, and i play it ritually every day:) You will not regret grabbing it in the SLIGHTEST... it's fantastic port (eclipsing the original in many ways), an a gem that deserves to be recognized as the downright classic that it is:) I was going thru the soundtest in the game, and i stumbled across this little ditty (i have included the source file with this e-mail). It grabbed me straight away. It strikes me as a really lonely track, sounding sad and melancholy. It's brief, and repetetive, but it's power and the effect it had on me cannot be understated. So i decided that i would expand on this great little melody (which sound's eerily like Danny Elfman's theme to the original Batman movie), and build an awesome trance track around it. Influenced by the brilliant soundtrack to the original Wipeout (the PSOne version), i set out to create a track that just rolls.... puts you in that trance like state and gets your blood pumping. Also i wanted to keep that 'floating in space' feeling that is present in the source... so i took the riff and melody from the source, and added new sections... new chord progressions, quasi-symphonic elements, many a new melody, and vocoder vocals. This is my first track using such vocals, and i am happy with the way they turned out. The lyrics i have written, incase you're interested, are as follows: ________ I have travelled across the sky; A thousand million light years past the edge of time. I take for granted what nobody can; To travel far beyond is just my masterplan. I'm flying alone. Don't cry, or i'll never get home. ________ I also, in an earlier version of the track, planned to include a conversation between a human and 'Starman'; though, the reaction i got to it was pretty dire, so i took it out. Though it's still in there (albeit reversed and in the background). As trance music is by nature, repetetive, i've tried my best with this song to vary things up without taking away from the 'rolling feeling' i wanted this track to have. Also a side note- i don't believe you will find the ending to be too much of a copout. It fits the nature of the song, and is supposed to sound like say, for example, you open a door from inside a space craft that leads out into space, and all of a sudden, the sound stops. As it apparently does in space. I did my best to wind the song down in a manner that prepares the listener for it's coming. And it fits the context, but some people just have a thing against finishing a song in this manner. But i believe it fits and works quite well... I hope this song takes you on a ride... and i belive you'll find it quite a pleasant journey too... Cheers, Robbie Sabo (AkumajoBelmont)

Email sub file The Fury of Wily (Drum n Bass Mix) OC Remix.mp3 Artist Name: Zero Apostle Real Name: Micah Hood Game Remixed:Megaman 2 Song Remixed: Wily's Castle Stage 1 I've always loved megaman music. I got the idea of remixing this one when I was in a music technology lab at school. A friend suggested it to me, and I immediately got started on ideas. I found out that the song is fast-paced enough to be a drum n bass remix. I'm very good when it comes to breakbeats/ Drum n Bass. All my remixes are electronic also. As soon as I finished, I was even suprised with the results.

Contact Info ReMixer name: Uboichi Real name: Uub Jacobson e-mail: uubjacobson@quicknet.nl ReMix info ReMixed game: Final Fantasy VII Original song: Still more fighting I wanted to make an orchestral arrangement of Still More Fighting for quite some time now. I tried it once before, but back then I found I had a lack of musical knowledge to arrange it and even if I could make it, my computer wasn’t good enough to make a mp3 of it. Now, two years later, I just sat back on a lazy afternoon and made this arrangement. And if you are wondering why there’s a sax section in this “orchestra”, it’s because I’m used to saxophones in an orchestra. We had a whole section of ‘m as well. P.S. If link doesn’t work in IE, try another browser. I tested the link with Firefox and it worked.

email sub file Star Fox Prof. Hangar's Guitar OC ReMix.mp3 Hi. I am new to OC Remix, as I have never submitted a remix before, but not new to the experience of listening to all the great remixers' work. Firstly, my name is Sean Fischer, and I go by the remixer name FraGmenTd. I have quite a bit of experience with sequencing and programming music, but am new to the subtleties of making good mastered mixes. As I mentioned, I have not submitted a remix before, but I have one to start a chain of many that I hope to submit in the future. It's from the Star Fox (snes) Titania boss theme. I don't have a place to put the song, and then send a link, so I'll have to submit the song attached to this email. I hope this is not too much trouble. I look forward to feedback on this mix, and hopefully many more to come. Thank you for hearing me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, Just finished a remix featuring Christian Pacaud on bass. Thanks in advance for listening! Here are the blurbs: ktriton: Yeah, so basically this was an idea I started forever and a half ago. I never finished it because I am amazing at slacking off. The remix takes into account a variety of lesser-covered Mitsuda soundtracks—prime among them being the Tsugunai: Atonement soundtrack (which I thought was great). Other sources and shout-outs include Xenosaga, Magic Pengel 2, Xenogears, and Shadow Hearts. Interpret the title and the static as you will, I’m not going to say anything about that. What I will say, however, is that this remix wouldn’t be half of what it is without Christian’s help. Even though I was forced at gunpoint to let him record the bass, this remix would sound probably three to four times crappier than it is if it wasn’t for his help with production. So thank you Christian for the bass track and all the production help! Hope you guys enjoy this! CPacaud: When I first heard a WIP of this mix, the first thing I noticed, besides all the piano and synth goodness, was that the bass lines were... sexy. I basically forced Kunal at gunpoint to let me play the bass on this mix. Hopefully it has been for the best! I mostly played what was sent to me with some additional touches here and there, so this is all ktriton's show. Go K ! Thanks, Kunal Majmudar Composer | http://www.ktriton.com

Geoffrey's requested that a link to the remix be left available for the public - LT http://geofftaucer.tripod.com/desperadostar.htm The info: ReMixers: Geoffrey Taucer, The Prophet of Mephisto, PriZm ReMix title: "A Star Freezes Over" Songs: "Gathering Stars in the Night Sky", "Desperado" Composers: Yasunori Mitsuda, Don Henley, Glenn Frey Sources: Xenogears, the Eagles Credits: Original concept/arrangement by Geoffrey Taucer Rythm guitars performed by Geoffrey Taucer Piano arranged and performed by the Prophet of Mephisto Saxophones performed (and partially arranged) by the Prophet of Mephisto Lead guitars arranged and performed by PriZm Percussion sequenced by PriZm And I'm a new remixer ("new" as in "this is my fourth submission and none of the first three made the cut"), so here's my bio: Name: Geoffrey Taucer Real name: Jeremy Waters e-mail: midgetboysk8@hotmail.com My own comments on the mix: I had not originally planned this mix to be a collab at all. I did most of the arrangement myself, then posted on the OneUp Studios boards asking for reccomendations for a good sax soundfont. That was when Mustin gave me the following advice: "never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever fake a sax." So I went in search of a sax player. And piano as well, because I couldn't stand the blocky, midi-esque sound I was getting from the piano soundfonts I had. The piano and eventually the sax went to the Prophet of Mephisto. There were no lead guitars at all in the arrangement as I originally planned it. But when I posted a midi on the WIP boards, PriZm PMed me asking if I'd be willing to extend it and let him record a guitar solo for it. So I added a section in the middle (from about 1:30 to about 2:50) for him to play around with. The Prophet sent me a recording of the piano part, but not the one I had written for the song; his version bore only a very vague resemblance to how I originally wrote it. And his version was enormously superior to mine. Unfortunately you can barely hear it in the final version, but trust me: there's some gorgeous piano going on in the background of the whole thing. The Prophet's alto sax part stuck much more closely to the part as I had written it than did his piano part, but he still added a bit of flair, a few embellishments which I think added a lot to the piece, and he played it beautifully. When PriZm sent me a demo recording of the lead guitars, I was blown away. Listen to his section and you'll see what I mean. PriZm gets 100% of the credit for both arrangement and performance of the lead guitars, as well as for the idea of having lead guitars in the first place. Originally, the remaining leads were going to be performed by Corran (from VGmix) on flute, but he couldn't do it so we decided to have Prophet do the remaining leads on soprano sax. Again, he played them absolutely beautifully, and this time threw in a harmony that wasn't in my original arrangement, which I think turned out pretty well. So, five months after I had the idea and whipped up a rough midi, here is "A Star Freezes Over." I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed putting it together. -Geoffrey Taucer ------------------------------------------------ Geoffrey Taucer

Please note content of email for consideration during Lockdown - djp Game: Ys 4 Original Song: Selseta Forest* Remix Name: Autumn Tears ReMixer: dj brilliant URL of ReMix: E-mail: naoki190_@hotmail.com Website: N/A Comments: I apologize for the poor instrumentation; my resources as of right now are quite limited. Rather than holding this any further, however, I like to consider the choice of instrumentation rather stylistic, I find it does lend itself to a unique sound quality. Also, I would like to also take this time to point out the fact that a remix of my remix is being hosted by OCRemix, in which permission was NOT granted to the remixer whether the use of my original remix was permitted. The remix under question is TerraTripmachine by JV, of the Final Fantasy 6 series. Concerns given are listed in the comments of the song; there was one person who did recognize that it was originally my remix which I had previously submitted to VGMidi, which I suspect is where the MIDI was obtained and remixed by JV. My submission alias for the VGMidi competition was, however, Trip Machine, but I do not feel that simply titling the remix as "Tripmachine" gives proper due credit. I am just curious as to whether anything can be done to rectify this situation, namely giving me proper credit somehow as the "original remixer", or something along those lines. It would be appreciated if I could receive a reply as to the considerations of this request as well, whether it is plausible and changes will be made, or if nothing is to be done about it. Apologies in advance if this was not the apporopriate place to file this complaint, I just thought it to be less troublesome to bundle both subject matter of submission and complaint in one e-mail rather than inefficently using two. Thank you for your consideration and your time. * Since it is a rather not well-known song, the original song is provided at , in case a base for comparison is needed. - dj brilliant _________________________________________________________________ Take advantage of powerful junk e-mail filters built on patented Microsoft® SmartScreen Technology. http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-ca&page=byoa/prem&xAPID=1994&DI=1034&SU=http://hotmail.com/enca&HL=Market_MSNIS_Taglines Start enjoying all the benefits of MSN® Premium right now and get the first two months FREE*.
