  1. Maybe I'm setting a bad example in terms of encouraging people to branch out, but I considered not mixing FF or CT and then decided, well... they're fantastic soundtracks. They deserve the attention. I would never mix a theme the same way as an existing mix of the same theme, but I don't avoid those games altogether. I can see some merit in doing so, though, if only because it would mean more mixes for UNMIXED games with great soundtracks, of which there are (tragically) tons. I tend to steer away from series that I can't relate to or have absolutely zero experience with - POKEMANZ is probably something I'll never mix. Not because I don't dig the music - Missingno proved there's tons of great stuff - but because it's an entire franchise that I just kinda "missed" and now don't have the time to get into.
  2. Consume Bacardi rum beverages as if it were your day of birth. Because it is.
  3. Really excellent PAX panel which showed how HUGE the EC fanbase is & how articulate and invested they are... kudos to the three of you for putting something different out there and sticking to it. <ulterior_motive>pimp OC ReMix more please halp!</ulterior_motive>
  4. The Beatles' "White Album" made me think that it was just for Caucasians, but then I saw People of Color were enjoying it as well. Crap name.
  5. Who, incidentally, was "Private Hudson"... Well, don't write yourself off, keep trying, and use the Workshop forums to get feedback. I've considered closing this thread because it keeps being resuscitated for myriad reasons somewhat unrelated to its original purpose, but at the same time I guess it offers a place for venting and/or nostalgia. We've already announced as much & discussed at MAG, but I'm interested in ways we can offer CERTAIN "vgmix-esque" functionality here on OCR; you can't make all of the people happy, all of the time, but you can certainly try, and you can certainly improve. I'm not talking about getting rid of the judges, submission standards, etc. What we're specifically considering is more integration between the workshop "Post Your Game ReMixes!" forum and the rest of the site. The ability to embed YT, tindeck, soundcloud would be nice, and then the ability to associate threads with a single game & multiple songs, ala "Official" mixes, we think would go a long way towards the notion that a mix can exist on the workshop forums alone, never be accepted, or even necessarily submitted, and still enjoy exposure & feedback. I've mentioned this idea to Jake, but he's REALLY super-busy writing tons of awesome VGM. Some people are very critical/defeatist towards this idea and keep hoping for vgmix's return, or want to start their own site - some even have, to varying degrees of success - but I honestly think we can work towards some, or even most, of those ideas here on OCR. Maybe we've already pissed some people off w/ rejections, etc. past the point of them wanting to even consider the idea. There will certainly always be schisms, sects, cliques, and antagonists, even in the smallest of communities. I just wanted to put it out there that we are interested in what we can do in 2011 and 2012 to try and fuse/meld the different approaches and make more people happy, more of the time.
  6. I'm still standing, folks. Be here all week, all week.
  7. That's actually probably a fair critique, but it's pretty douchily/sarcastically made; golden rule = mixcomment unto others as you would have them mixcomment unto yourself?
  8. I'm chiming in; it's rare that I veto an approval, and for good reasons, but I didn't feel this piece was strong enough relative to current standards and to what I know Cyril is capable of. It made perfect sense and worked fine as an album track, but as a standalone mix, I think this is the right call. Talked with Connor and he wasn't upset, so I'm commenting and closing out; we owe him one for making him wait so long, so perhaps we can expedite something of his in the future!
  9. First off, let me offer my own congratulations on an album with some stellar tracks! I did want to clarify the above concerning OCR "regulations" and Harmony of a Hunter - we actually talked about making the album official, I would have loved to have done so, but there were two sticking points. One was the timing; seeing as there are albums that have been in the works for a long while that are "first in line", it was somewhat problematic to release it in early August, ahead of those projects. The other issue was that some tracks might indeed have needed revisions to pass evaluation... we'll never know for sure, because a truly official evaluation was never done. Darren indicated he didn't want to remove a single track, so based on that we assumed it wouldn't work out. Incidentally, Larry told me some of the tracks he specifically had issues with when he listened prior to its final release DID end up being cut from the album (???), so perhaps that wasn't as much of an issue as we thought... At any rate, this wasn't a situation where we explicitly said no because the mixes didn't align with our standards, it was more due to timing than anything else, with the additional issue surrounding withdrawal/revisions. I think it's important to point that out, for future reference.
