OverClocked ReMix Releases Free Fan Tribute Album, THE ANSWER - Armored Core Tribute Album - January 10, 2011 Contact: press@ocremix.org FAIRFAX, VA--OverClocked ReMix today released its 21st album, THE ANSWER - Armored Core Tribute Album -. This album was made as a tribute to the amazing Armored Core games and the music by Kota Hoshino and the From Software sound team. It features eleven tracks arranged by Mattias Häggström Gerdt, five of them featuring vocalists Jillian Aversa and Deia Vengen, and is available for free download at http://answer.ocremix.org. This album was produced to help promote video game music, was made by fans, for fans, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by From Software; all original compositions are copyright their respective owners. "Few games make my adrenaline pump as hard as Armored Core. ... Kota Hoshino's music especially floored me as some of the most unique and appealing music I had heard in a video game. The amazing vocal lines, the no-nonsense rock, the club beats, the bombastic choirs, it all had an incredible personality while still working within the game. This was music I wanted to show my respect for, so I set out to create a tribute album," said Gerdt, director and arranger of the album. About OverClocked ReMix Founded in 1999, OverClocked ReMix is an organization dedicated to the appreciation, preservation, and interpretation of video game music. Good discussion, and I know that most of the big sources have already been mentioned (thanks, K.B.), but let's not forget that right here, right now, there are mixes ON OC that still don't have a lot of reviews, and today specifically an album - Anso deserves some feedback (and in my opinion, kudos) for his Armored Core album!!

THE ANSWER - Armored Core Tribute Album - 01 Morning, Thinker (3:43) 02 Twisted on the Surface (3:12) 03 Apex in TECHNO (5:19) 04 RAY of Speed (3:13) 05 Shining Highway (2:35) 06 Hyper Monkey Likes the Dancefloor (4:45) 07 Dropping Atoms (3:19) 08 Death to the King (2:56) 09 We Can See No.373 (3:34) 10 Over the Pain (3:56) 11 Goodbye, Thinker (3:42) Creator's comments: Armored Core. High speed mecha action. Few games make my adrenaline pump as hard as Armored Core. There is something magical about building your own machine to take on the world. The music in the games was always a big part of that for me. I was introduced to the series with Armored Core 4 and it was through the music I felt I had to explore the rest of the series. What I discovered was an amazing repertoire ranging from techno to rock and even orchestral. Kota Hoshino's music especially floored me as some of the most unique and appealing music I had heard in a video game. The amazing vocal lines, the no-nonsense rock, the club beats, the bombastic choirs, it all had an incredible personality while still working within the game. This was music I wanted to show my respect for, so I set out to create a tribute album. After four months of sporadic work and a successful preview release at Comiket78, the album is now complete. 11 pieces of music arranging 15 tracks from the Armored Core series. All made in Propellerhead's Reason and Record with a little help from a guitar, a bass and some great vocalist friends. I'm incredibly proud of the end result. I hope you like this album as much as I liked creating it. Thank you for listening. SPECIAL THANKS: Kota Hoshino & FromSoftware, Johanna, Don, Audun, Dave, Larry, Deia, Jill, Judges, OCR, VGMdb, AFFT. "Deep-sea fish loves you forever" CREDITS: All tracks arranged, produced and performed by Mattias Häggström Gerdt except otherwise noted. mattias@anosou.com http://anosou.com Vocals on track 1, 4 and 6: Deia Vengen Vocals on track 9 and 11: Jillian Aversa Vocals on track 10: Kota Hoshino Tracks remixed: 01: "Morning, Lemontea" (Armored Core 3: Silent Line), "Thinker" (Armored Core 4) 02: "Twist It" (Armored Core 4), "Someone is Always Moving on the Surface" (Armored Core: for Answer) 03: "Apex in Circle" (Armored Core: Master of Arena) 04: "Speed" (Armored Core 4) 05: "Shining" (Armored Core: Nexus), "Autobahn" (Armored Core: Nexus) 06: "Super Monkey Likes Daddy" (Armored Core: Nexus) 07: "Atom Smasher" (Armored Core 2), "Whiz Drop" (Armored Core 2) 08: "King Lear" (Armored Core 2) 09: "I Can See All" (Armored Core: for Answer), "isaku No.373" (Armored Core: Formula Front) 10: "Cosmos" (Armored Core: for Answer) 11: "Thinker" (Armored Core 4) Originally composed by: Kota Hoshino (1-11) Keiichiro Segawa (3, 7, 8) Tsukasa Saitoh (3) Yuji Kanda, Ikuya Ichinohe (7, 8) Ayako Minami (9)

Saw you mention it on IRC a few days ago, or maybe it was Twitter? Bought it, actually played a few levels, which is saying something given my schedule right now, and was digging the tunage. I had an issue where when I used the analog stick I would move forward uncontrollably at times, like a Toyota, but I switched to d-pad and all was good. Why don't you get all narcissistic up in this bitch and ReMix one of your own tracks, and submit it? Good work, either way...

Thanks, I saw that! We actually haven't gotten a lot of donations lately, mostly due to the economy I guess. We went two whole months, in October and November, without a single donation, then two today and one like a week ago. All funds go towards operation and promotion of the site. Our usual expenses total around $300 a month, when all is said and done, which at the moment is being covered by both donations and ad money. We don't have a specific target in mind, generally speaking, other than covering costs, but every April we do a "Support OCR Month" fundraiser, and sometimes we'll set a target for those. 2011 should be a big year, and we may incur some additional expenses depending on how plans go, so we appreciate the support, and as always, we'll do our best!

wip Jeanne d'Arc - Martyr's Requiem (Title Theme)
djpretzel replied to Modus's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hell yes! Gotta commend you first on your choice of source - love the game, love the music. As per the mix, sounds pretty solid so far; I think there could be a little more separation on elements, specifically the calliope type lead that comes in later, I'd pan it left, get a wider field going on. Right now the weak point is probably the drums, relative to the other components - I was expecting something harder and more electronic, just based on the build, but I get that you're going for a chillout vibe, so the acoustic kit does make sense in that regard, it just needs a little more energy, I think - I might try layering, adding an additional percussive component, synth fx pattern, just something to make the drums as interesting as everything else you've got going on; it might benefit from a kit with better multisamping, so that snares and kicks sound different at different velocities. I'd also consider just shifting the genre a bit and experimenting with how harder, more electronica drums might sound, because you're working with a great melody, and you've got a great buildup that reminds me of Orbital's 'Halcyon and On and On', if you're familiar with that - I think going in that direction, percussively, might be awesome. At any rate, personal thanks for working with this source, and I hope you get more feedback & experiment a bit, because I'd love to see the panel pass a Jeanne D'Arc mix! -
What's your go-to synth?
djpretzel replied to Kidd Cabbage's topic in Music Composition & Production
I thought no one else would say this It's definitely one of my faves; however, it seems like its default levels are WAY loud - first thing I do after loading it up is always taking it down relative to everything else. Rob Papen Blue is another favorite, and I like Cakewalk Rapture as well. -
Larry and I are on the panel of audio judges for IGF, I've been playing a lot of the entries lately, and I have to say, BIT.TRIP BEAT is DEFINITELY worth your money!
