I agree. I think it would be worth exploring putting some artist links on remix pages.

I saw the link for follow us on twitter and facebook under the preview this mix button on the mixpost page... I was thinking it would be awesome if that was follow the artist!! It would be such a good place for those buttons right next to where the artist's music link is posted!

This tune is definitely one of the best from FA:WCTEP. It's just straightforward metal cover, yeah, but it's still awesome. Keep rocking, Max!

RE: being pedantic, we know there's a LOT of room for that here, but we've been over this list dozens of times and feel like it's at a pretty good place. If we keep adding going forward, we won't know which mixes were analyzed before or after a new tag was added, etc.

I defer to Larry as to whether you can proceed with tagging your own mixes - I don't see a problem, personally, BUT when the whole project is done we ARE going to reach out to artists to verify/comment on what we've got for their mixes, so there will be a second chance for EVERYONE to review.

Auto-tune is a little tricky because of the dual usage - when applied subtly, the effect can be difficult to notice, and is employed in this fashion quite often. Would that still count, or are we only talking about T-Pain? I'd guess the latter...

"tracker" is intended to convey a certain instrumentation aesthetic that involves lower-fi samples, often quirky & being employed outside their natural range, etc.

Eval has completed, album PASSED (woot! was there ever any doubt??), feedback was provided to Pieter...

It's going to be a bit before we can publish, because we've got FF9 and then a couple others (gonna be a busy 3rd & 4th quarter!), so I'm hoping some of the feedback can actually be used in the meantime to improve a couple of the tracks. It's optional - as mentioned, the album passed - but the third & final ass can be even badder if some tweaks are made here and there prior to the big day...

Seems reasonable, and we ARE working on tags/terms that would enable this... we like to strike a balance between encouraging diversity (both on the part of artists AND listeners) and being accommodating to folks who may have more specific tastes.

The human voice will always be my favorite instrument, personally, and I love the extra layers of creativity that original vocals/lyrics can provide.

I loved hearing about the remixer's journey towards this song. I totally understand what it is to be afraid to remix one of the most cherished themes in your library (mine is from Final Fantasy Adventure!), so I hope you understand when I say that you have truly accomplished your goal. The transition section starting at 2:10 really shines as an example of the beauty and range of the piece. Special props to the emotive and powerful ending. Congratulations, Level 99 - you've done FFT proud.

Thanks for your reply. I might have not been specific enough, but I wasn't saying I or any other non-judge should be part of the selection process. I was more addressing the cavalier attitude the judge was tossing around in an attempt to rudely pacify an opinion he doesn't share, immediately after asking for peoples' opinions. I sincerely hope his attitude and personality are offset by more rational and objective talent on the panel; something which pains me to say after enjoying the man's site and work for a decade and a half :-\

That was overkill for reading far too much into what I wrote, but thank you for being so empirical. I do admit that my bias of not enjoying the lyrical tracks colors my perception, and that's all I said, that it "seems" like there are more than ever...lately, not literally, and not since the historical beginning. Anyway, thanks for taking the time.

As for the "consider the fans", I did not in any way mean that my nor any other site visitor's opinions be considered in the judging process necessarily, and not to make it any type of public voting/popularity contest. Just that rudely dismissing long-time visitors' opinions after explicitly requesting them in the OP doesn't really instill much confidence in a judge's ability to be fair, impartial, etc. It also doesn't say much that an officiating member of the site would brashly and curtly speak for everyone (staff and all of the site's traffic) to swat down with such a strong hand, a very passive, informal suggestion that in all honestly would cause precisely zero negative side-effects, yet benefit all users in their ability to find the content on the site most relevant to their tastes.

And for the record, I have never said, please OCR, quit posting lyrical remixes. I see the value in posting them for those who do enjoy. I was mostly saying that because some of us do not particularly care for them, it would be great to have some way of denoting them (i.e. metadata, etc) that would be searchable, so we can quickly tell. Obviously a separate site is hyperbole, but the core idea above is a sound suggestion.

We can attempt to force download by specifying MIME type for MP3 as application/other, I believe... however, this does seem like an oversight in Edge that I have to think WILL be fixed, given the fundamental nature of the action in question.

    Green for definite
    Orange for uncertain
Red for no idea (might be wrong, sorry if so Ryan)

0:00 to 0:35 mostly soundscaping far as I can tell 00:35 - 1:17 very loosely based on the first 4 notes of cid's theme 1:17-1:57 no idea 1:57-2:15 melody is start of cid's theme 2:15-2:32 is sort of sending a dream (0:22-0:42) in the way the melody rises, only picked up on by extrapolating the next melody backkwards 2:32-2:48 is sending a dream extrapolated (0:42-1:00) 2:48-3:26 is very loosely little bronco takes flight 3:26-3:39 hot damn it's cid's theme 3:39-4:12 no idea 4:12-4:42 mucking about very loosely with cid melody (1:08) 4:42-5:03 no idea 5:03-5:30 cid's theme melody, pretty clear (1:03ish) 5:30-5:55 very loosely based on the first 4 notes of cid's theme 5:55-6:19 I think is actually a cheeky reference to the intro of lifestream, the notes match up (0:22 on), if so this is very clever, it's even thematically correct as it's the first tease of the idea of going into space   I make that: 3:00 of identifiable 1:11 of sort of but hard to tell 2:09 of not sure at all
