  1. Listening to the track, I think DJ H0us3c0rP3 (had to look at the username a couple times to make sure I got it right) pretty much hit the nail on the head with my takeaways. If the arps are intended to be swung, then it isn't really apparent because it's just coming across as off-rhythm. Also think after :28 the song just kind of meanders. Don't know if the saw is a placeholder or not, but I'd work on softening it a bit more or looking at another instrument because it isn't really lending itself to the atmosphere you're trying to convey. Not a bad start. Can't wait to see where you take this on the next update.
  2. Appreciate it! I realized though the pad is smothering my mix though... Tweaked some EQ settings and it messed up the production. Oh well. By the way, I vote for you.
  3. Just submitted my bonus. Definitely not MnP, but I figured since it's a bonus I had room to flex a little. Oh, and given the pre-requisite for next week's source, I looked up Rouge's Theme from SA2 and have had that stuck in my head since. lol
  4. C'mon guys and gals. Don't let me be the only one to submit something.
  5. I think it was taken at some point but ended up getting dropped. If you need any help on the track just let me know.
  6. I'll have my bonus track ready by Friday. May be cutting it close, but hopefully it'll be worth it.
  7. Someone needs to claim "Into the Thick of It". We absolutely cannot release a SoM album and NOT have that song on there. lol Thinking about picking up a second track, but I'm torn on "Secret of the Arid Sands" or "Still of the Night."
  8. Not sure if anyone else knows about this, but I figured I'd share. There is an online radio station themed after Jet Set Radio. Been listening to it for awhile now, and not only do they play songs from the two JSR games, but they play a lot of similar sounding music. They've since added various individual stations with tracks falling within that station's theme. Managed to discover some pretty cool tracks. Hopefully some of you can have fun with it: http://jetsetradio.live
  9. Just dropping by to say your guys' remixes gave me a real Xenoblade vibe. Great job everyone.
  10. All of the feedback has been greatly appreciated. Kind of hopping back-and-forth between my projects right now to keep myself from getting overwhelmed when I hit a roadblock with one.
  11. Just going to chime in as a MacBook Pro user who happens to use FL Studio (I use the virtual machine Parallels to run Windows & FL Studio). Purchased mine from student loan disbursement a couple years back, have a 2.2GHz i7 processor with 16GB in memory. Of course this was before I knew I was going to get back into music, but I haven't really had any issues. I'd definitely recommend going for the i7 if you are able to. Run some beast of programs (Adobe Creative Suite, Maya 3D, VM + FL Studio) without suffering too much in performance. Just be aware if you do opt for the MacBook + virtual machine + FL Studio route that some synths do not work through a VM. Discovered this when trying a demo for Sylenth1.
  12. Sweet. I was just throwing something out there since you didn't have a preference.
  13. Sky Blazer, the thread: An underrated gem from the SNES era.
  14. Going to hop back on my track here soon. Whenever I have a decent improvement along with the directors' early feedback I'll drop it in the private forum. I keep trying to work on it but every time I do it winds up like this:
  15. Hate to double post, but my track is up. Rather short, but I'm trying to go for substance. EQ could probably use a bit more work, but eh.
  16. No problem Nikanoru. Think we all understand life can get really busy. I'm hoping to get to having a complete WIP of the Boss B track in the coming weeks. Right now my priorities are working on my SoM track for the other album project, and finishing up a personal project. Once Boss B is done I'll probably go over Cyber Warfare again. I'm not really satisfied with that track.
  17. Fwiw, my track is coming along pretty well. Definitely won't have any time issues this round.
  18. Awesomesauce! Look forward to learning and the friendly competition.
  19. I'll probably whip something up for this round. Have a bit more free time to work with.
  20. After two weekends of not really really doing anything, I took another crack at the Boss B track. Starting to come along a lot better than before. Still struggling with a lot of artist's block when it comes to this track, but I've been listening to some of the more proficient electronic artists on this site for some added inspiration. Hope to have something for review here soon.
  21. As far as I'm aware, most of the instruments you hear in the Donkey Kong series are derived from KORG M1 soundbanks (either that or Wavestation). There is actually a VST-version of the synth KORG offers as part of their KORG Legacy Collection. With some instrument layering and modulation you could probably come up with near identical sounds. As for contacting David Wise... He is on Twitter, but whether he responds or not I could not tell you.
  22. Oooh, this is an interesting source. Probably not going to participate this round due to some of my other musical obligations, but I will look forward to hearing the entries! And happy new year to everyone!
  23. Voted. You all did such a great job. I mean it when I say that this was a hard decision figuring out where to rank everyone!
