  1. Really excited to hear what some of the other remixers have been cooking up. Getting closer to getting both CDs filled, which is exciting!
  2. True to my word, I got my project started this weekend. Have about 40 secs of an intro I've been playing around with to try and build my instruments and soundscape. So far the chill has been obtained. UPDATE: Managed to get more work done. At around 2:20 mark. Zoness is proving to be a tad more challenging of a source than I thought, but so far it is going well. Pretty pleased with the results thus far. I should have a rough WIP done by this weekend. And the title for my track is going to be Diving into the Deep Green Abyss.
  3. Thanks for the feedback, as always! I'll look into seeing switching some of the synths around and seeing how that sounds. May be able to just use some of the synths I incorporated in that part you like and extend those throughout the track (with some variation). I was a tad worried about the lead anyways, so I'm not terribly surprised someone walked away having issues with the synths.
  4. Man, Mystic Invasion is such a good track. Shame no one has taken up that as their source. I would, but I'm neither a published mixer and am involved with other projects the moment. However, my day job is as a web developer, so I can probably assist with site needs. Just shoot me a PM with what the team is looking for and I'll make some recommendations.
  5. Hey everyone, So, the idea for this track was birthed out of the most recent MnP Competition. I've been playing around with this for close to two weeks. After getting the song into a more stable place I feel comfortable getting this evaluated and seeing how close or far away I am from the threshold of OCR's standards for submission. I feel this is an improvement from my last remix and would like to try and submit this song to the site, if it's not too far off from the standards. This is like some weird combo between synth wave and standard electronic fare. The idea was to mimic the concept in my head of being on an alien train going between different stations, in this case Brinstar and Torvus. While I know what the concept is, that does not ring true for everyone else and may just come across as disjointed or incohesive, so I want to make sure this isn't going to be a problem for the judges. I'm also worried the lead may be too powerful. Tested my song on a couple different speakers and it sounded a little iffy on one but fine on the other. Even if you are not an evaluator I welcome any and all feedback, or just general comments. Thanks!
  6. Great job everyone! Think everyone did good making the theme sound and feel eerie. A lot of it reminded me of old 80's suspense film music, but that's not bad. lol
  7. Thanks! What time frame should I have a WIP for the team to view/listen?
  8. I see Zoness is unclaimed for the second disc, so I'd like to hog it for myself and throw my hat into the ring. Think I have a nice direction for the track. Something along the lines of chill-down electronica/chiptune. I'll listen to the track, get a good idea of the structure of the song and start kicking around some ideas this week.
  9. I've tweaked it a little more, but honestly I think I've just hit my creative threshold. EDIT: Track has been submitted.
  10. Finished my alt track. Not sure how I feel about it, but it fits the theme better, I think. I'll submit it in a few.
  11. That's a really good video series. There is a PDF tutorial I've been working through for Sytrus that has been extremely helpful. I'll look for it when I have access to my laptop for anyone reading this thread who may find it helpful. EDIT: Found the PDF link https://www.malmgren.nl/Sytrus.pdf
  12. I'm not familiar with the source tune, but I think this sounds very serene. 1:52-2:24 is probably my favorite part since I'm a sucker for a good violin solo. A shame the project was cancelled. You and your contributors did an excellent job on this track!
  13. This isn't really a request as much as curiosity on my part. I've been trying to better understand synthesis and creating my own sounds. Currently Sytrus in FL Studio because has been main synth of choice since I find it very easy to work with and am able to produce some pretty cool sounds. Lately I've been finding myself challenged to recreate the sounds from the Metroid Prime series. The futuristic/sci-fi sounds Yamamoto interwove throughout the series' soundtracks were some of what made the soundtrack memorable to me. However, this made me kind of curious, and so I ask: for those of you who have a good grasp of synthesis or are in the process of learning, what music has or does inspire to either replicate the sound or just play around building synths? Like I said, just curious.
  14. My song kind of is hit-or-miss on the theme I feel like... Think I'm going to need to create an alternate version of my current track in order to get it to fit the theme better.
  15. I'm going to work on my track this week and try to submit it next weekend. Just have a question though: is the goal to make this track sound spooky, or is that description simply playing off the month? What I have right now doesn't really classify as "spooky," so I just want to make sure.
  16. Ooh. This was one of my favorite track in Metroid Prime (I played Metroid Prime 2 before I played Super Metroid). Definitely would like to give this a whirl.
  17. I don't really have a lot in the way of critique, but I just wanted to say you did an amazing job with this track! I love how clean the instruments sound, and I'm always a sucker for jazz arrangements. I can envision myself kicking back on a beach sipping on fruit smoothies to this track.
  18. This is an original track that I've been working on for a little bit. Part of me has been wanting to morph this into a game remix (there is a song I have in mind) but I've been hesitant to because I really don't want to force a song. The instrumentation is kind of a weird blend of electronic and some jazz-hop elements. I was trying to imitate the flute sounds I've heard at Native American festivals. Trying to reduce the clipping from the rhodes pianos, hopefully I can do that with another update in the not-to-distant future.
  19. Maaaan, Saturn Valley is one of my favorite tracks from Earthbound. You did a great job capturing the spirit of the original track. The song is jumpy, fun, and most of all, boingy. The lead sounds like it sometimes gets lost in the the bass and kick. 0:54-0:57 is where I notice this. Maybe just bring out the lead a little bit more. I also feel like the song kind of ends abruptly. Listening to this song on my phone without looking at the time, I thought the ending transition was leading into another section of the song. Since this is a WIP I'm sure there is more to come. Great job so far. I look forward to hearing how this develops!
  20. I think you'r right. Still, I feel Team Knight is a bit neglected at the moment. Lol
  21. For the record, I'm comfortable being on either team if necessary. Seems like more people have jumped on Team Robot than Team Knight. Personally I'm fine either way though I'd still prefer Team Robot.
  22. Bumping this thread again (feel like I've bumped this thread enough already) just to say that I think I'm at the point with this track where I'd like to go through the formal evaluation process. I've worked on a lot of the EQ issues that were really bugging me, and I feel like it's a lot tighter now.
  23. Haha, I love this! You have a good flow, and it doesn't hurt that the source material is already jumping. Your cover brings back memories of the old 90s Disney cartoon openings (except not as campy). Look forward to seeing some more covers in the future.
  24. In spirit of the competition I decided to download Shovel Knight. Pretty good game so far. Liking Specter Knight's theme a lot. Not going to jump off the Team Robot bandwagon, but I am excited to play around with the themes once we get going.
