  1. I think you have a really good base to build from right now. As already stated, the song is a tad repetitive. One thing I think you could is to create a more distinct intro. Currently you just drop the listener into the song, but you might want to build up to the drums and then get into the main progression of the song. All in all, I like the source and like what I'm hearing so far. Look forward to your next update!
  2. Definitely! The guitar doesn't sound so muddled, which it sort of did at points on YouTube.
  3. Awesome job man! This is definitely an interesting take on a K.K. track. This song gives me serious Dragon Ball Z-vibes from :34-1:00. As for feedback, I'd say the mastering sounds a little off, but since you already acknowledge that I can just skip on that. Great job again!
  4. Haha, that's all good. I appreciate your time in responding. I completely understand what it is like to be swamped with work. Managed to fix the off notes. Should have been a D and not a C. As for the meter issues, I think I caught what you were talking about with the section from 1:36-1:51. The closer I paid attention the snares just seemed to be off when hitting. Maybe that's what I kept sensing that was off? I'm going to play around with it some more this weekend and post and update when I do. Hopefully I'll fix these issues. I appreciate it! Will update soon.
  5. As always I appreciate the feedback. With your advice I added a phaser effect that goes in and out on the lead. Tried to balance keeping some consistency and variety. Hopefully it pans out as well as my earbuds led me to believe. Also think the EQ is starting to mold closer to how I hoped it'd sound. All this to say... Here is version 6. Hopefully this is getting closer to OCRemix-quality.
  6. Hopefully we'll still have enough people to start up soon. Looking to still give this a go.
  7. Appreciate all of your feedback Nikanoru. I've gone ahead and tried incorporating some of them into my latest update. Nothing too fancy; just some EQ adjustments. It's a tad better now. Not sure if the song is going to grow much more in terms of new pieces. Pretty much taxed my brain as far as where to take this. Although I thought that last time and managed to find inspiration for another 30 secs. lol EDIT: Managed to change a couple more EQ settings around and add some new instrumentation in places.
  8. Really digging this track! Kind of gives me a Sonic R/Sonic CD vibe. I gotta be honest though... I'm really not digging that lead brass. I'm not sure what I could suggest you change it too, but this is more just my opinion and less an actual critique of your arrangement. There are still areas where the notes sound off, which is probably the most apparent when the song first starts. I'm really really liking this track and look forward to your next update!
  9. Update time: Extended the track by adding some new parts. Also added some new instrumentation: there's a pad, some strings and a second lead instrument that kicks in places to add some depth with the main lead. I'm still working out some of the EQ kinks. The track feels... Dull? Mainly I wanted to try and reduce the emptiness that Gario mentioned, so I'm hoping this is headed in the right direction.
  10. Lots of props for taking such a short song and trying to extend it out to 4mins. I feel like some of your samples are really low and not the best quality. Your cymbal crash at 1:53 just doesn't have the power I think you're trying to go for. The voice SFX is really kind of distracting. Ultimately I feel like the song wants to build to some climax, but I never get that sense that it reaches any kind of apex. Just kind of stays on the same level, which works if you add vocals like the above have mentioned, but on its own it probably needs some more instrumentation. I do like the part where Navi comes in during your transition at 1:06-1:07. Got a grin out of me. Lol I also think your EQ of the instruments you have right now is pretty solid, so I don't think you'll need to tweak too much there. All in all, it's chill. Look forward to seeing what comes next!
  11. Thanks Gario! The Boomer Kuwanger thing is pretty funny since I listened to your Boomer Kuwanger track from the Sigma Fortress competition awhile back to compare Boomer Kuwanger mixes -- along with others here and elsewhere. I'll look into what I can add to the track to give more depth. Trying to find the right instrument has proven to be a bigger challenge than I would have thought... I also await your feedback on what sounds off. Probably took too much liberty in some areas.
  12. Thanks man, I appreciate it! Yeah, something funny happened to the intro in my most recent rendering of the songs. Before it was much more level with the rest of the track. Might be one of the filters I added. I'll definitely look into the bass and see how I can bring that out more.
  13. This is pretty good. I like these chiptune-style remakes. Of course I'm always a fan of a good chiptune, but I definitely like this. Good job!
  14. Hey everyone. So, this is my first remix... Ever. I've spent the past couple of weeks experimenting in FL Studio, and what began as a tutorial exercise quickly morphed into a Boomer Kuwanger remix without any real intention on my part. I feel comfortable posting this here because I feel it's in a better state (comparatively) than where the project was a week ago. I'm wanting some general feedback to see where I can improve. Obviously with this being my first big project there is a lot of noob-ish mistakes, some of which I probably don't even realize. The main things bugging me right now are the clap being "cheap" sounding, the lead possibly being overused, and the song in general not being "remix-y" enough. I'm still trying to fine tune the EQ, but it's a difficult task... Let me know what you all think. I'm open for any advice or critique. Just be gentle with the latter, please. lol Edit: Upped the volume of the intro and changed some of the EQ around to bring out the bass a little more. Evaluation Version: (09/29)
  15. Major props for giving Legend of Mana some spotlight. One of the best soundtrack from the PSX era -- really in general. I wish I could give you some in-depth critique, but seeing as I'm a newbie I can only echo the sentiment of The Nikanoru and say that it sounds a bit muddies towards the middle of the song. Also wasn't a fan of the high-pitched sound coming in at 3:38-3:54. That's just me though. Again, great job on this!
  16. I'd love the participate in this tournament. Been trying to learn FL Studio and music arrangement, and this would be a fun way to do that. Unlike my last attempt years ago I have time to devote to my remixes... Since I've never played Shovel Knight (should probably change that), sign me up for Team Robots.
  17. No, that actually helps. Thanks. I'm happy to have some feedback fairly quickly. I kind of figured there'd be no silver bullet plugin since, as you said, it is a modularized saw lead. I just didn't know if there was a VST that would better produce that sound. Years ago I used Synth 1, so perhaps I will grab that again. Will look into Zebra as well.
  18. Hey, I've been trying to get back into music lately (trying to familiarize myself more with music theory), and one of the things I've been looking to find is a synth lead similar to games like Megaman Battle Network Transmission or Custom Robo 64. Ultimately I'd like to try my hand at creating a remix for OCR in the future (when I'm much better) and have a concept in my mind that'd utilize a similar lead. If anyone knows of a good VST that can produce something similar I'd appreciate the help. Thanks!
  19. Just finished listening to the songs. One song sounds like it came from Final Fantasy, the other Donkey Kong, and another Metroid Prime.
  20. Sure, I'd be more than happy to listen to whatever improved version you release.

  21. Really excited to see this competition begin. Loved last years and happy to see another great group of artists. Hopefully this time Ill get to hear MM4's Wily Stage 2 theme tackled. Best of luck to everyone. Winner gets to have their remixes put into the next Super Smash Bros.
  22. Whomever chooses the Megaman 10 Wily song automatically gets my vote.
  23. No problem man. It was a really good mix and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the song. Keep improving dude. ;)

  24. Maybe I will finally get to hear the Wily Stage 2 theme from Megaman 4...
