  1. Mmm, this is a good thread. Needs more recommendations though! Here's one of my favorite obscure groups: http://evokethylords.bandcamp.com/ If you like doom or gothic metal at all they're really worth checking out! Also a lot of their lyrics on "Escape to the Dreamlands" are H.P. Lovecraft inspired, which is pretty cool .
  2. I thought this thing was broken because I had been shoving mixes into it all morning and only got NOs, but I can happily say that I have finally been accepted! Not only that, but it accepted 2 in a row! It also correctly identified the lead instrument as spleen which was a pleasant surprise.
  3. Just wanted to mention that I really love this piece. It's been stuck in my head for the last few days so I've been playing it on repeat!
  4. We haven't decided on deadlines yet, but you should have plenty of time. We will be sure to keep everyone in the loop. Also the first post has been updated!
  5. I honestly didn't realize how much interest there was in this project, and it really makes me want to see it through to the end. Since no one else has spoken up, I would be willing to step back into the picture as director, but I do feel like I need someone to join me as a co-director, to help me make decisions and keep everything on track. Is there anyone (perhaps someone who has experience with these sorts of projects) who would be willing to work with me to get this finished?
  6. Hey everyone, I told myself that I wouldn't do this ever since I started this project, so this is very difficult to do. However, as much as I regret to say it, I'm going to have to step down from directing this project. When I started this thing I knew it wasn't going to be easy, but what I wasn't prepared for was the constant hanging-over-my-head that would go with it; It was always this thing in the back of my mind and it really did stress me out. For the last couple of months I've put the project completely out of my head, telling myself that I would get back to it in a week. Or two. Or three. Obviously that never happened and I've got to say – I'm considerably less stressed now. I honestly did expect to get back to it after a little while, but at this point I really don't feel that I can. I am extremely sorry and this is very hard for me to do. Legend of Mana is my favorite game and I certainly think it deserves an album like this. I want everyone who has contributed to know that I am extremely grateful for all the work you've done. I've heard some seriously good music from you guys! I'm extra sorry for anyone who I didn't get back to after sending me a WIP over the last few months. It was really unfair of me not to respond. Again it was the “I'll do it tomorrow. Or the next day” thing that just never happened. It certainly wasn't because I didn't like the tracks though . Now. I guess there are a couple of options, really. #1 would be for someone else to step up and take over from me. My only reservation with this is that it's already been 2.5 years since it all started and I have a feeling that if someone were to continue it, it would take at least another 2 to get released. This person would still have to recruit new mixers, wait for mixes to be submitted, get album artwork, submit to OCR for approval and then wait for probably some time. Not the most attractive option anymore if you ask me, however if someone wants to do this and thinks they can handle it, I would be prepared to pass the torch over. #2 would be to release what we've got. Maybe give everyone a couple of months to finish/polish up their stuff and then release it as a non – OCR album. I would be okay with directing this, however the cut-off date would be final and I would not accept any mixes after said date. I would also not be recruiting new mixers to fill the remaining spots; It would literally just be whatever was submitted by the cut-off date. #3 would be for each artist to release their tracks separately or abandon them as they see fit. I am sure that a lot of these tracks could get on OCR if they were submitted (maybe after a little bit of polish in some cases), so I would definitely encourage everyone to do that(please, please, please. This stuff deserves to be heard). So. Remixers, let me know which of the above options suits you best and I'll try to make it happen. I'm leaning towards #2 myself, but obviously we won't do that unless you guys want to. Finally, I really want to say thanks again to everyone who supported this project, especially those who joined because I asked them to. I know a lot of you haven't played Legend of Mana and I think it's incredibly awesome that you were willing to contribute. Again, I'm really sorry that this isn't going to pan out the way I had originally planned.
  7. Oh man...I'm really sorry for ignoring everyone this past month. I feel really bad, but I just haven't had the energy to deal with project stuff lately. I will be in touch as soon as I feel up to it; hopefully sooner than later. That being said, thanks to everyone who's submitted WIPs or contacted me. It's good to hear from all of you. I guess I should put in the obligatory mention that there are a couple of open tracks. As always, PM me if you're interested in claiming one of them.
  8. http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35647 It's happening!
  9. Oh man, Tuberz absolutely killed it this week with the arrangement. Your butts had better get pumped!
  10. Computer Musics CM plugins: The cost of a magazine for ~30 synths and effects, some of which are very very good. I've never used commercial synths so I don't really know how they compare, but they're much better than almost all of the freeware synths I've used. Would also recommend the Sonigen Modular beta. It's free and AMAZING. It's going to be released as pay ware soon I think. The only warning I should give is that on my machine it tends to crash Reaper a lot without warning, which is a pain in the ass, but not a big enough detergent for me to stop using it (it is still in beta after all).
  11. Another non-violent gamer here (or not, since I don't really play games anymore, but anyways...). I never understood why my friends were all into Halo and Call of Duty a few years back. I would play with them when we were together, but I never found the experience to be enjoyable. I did pick up a few FPSs to try and get into them more, but eventually I realized that I just wasn't okay with pulling a trigger, whether for real or virtually.
  12. Who lives in a weenie hut under the sea? Bran-don-stra-der!
  13. Haha, that was kind of my reaction as well...rules are meant to be broken I guess?
  14. Yeah, the hiss is just a saturation plugin on the mandolin with the noise knob turned up a little bit. The master itself isn't saturated though. It's funny, I thought I was mixing the bass lower than I normally would have, but listening to it again, maybe it is a bit too strong. The bass is actually cut at 800hz but I did use a multiband compressor on the master to compress the bottom 200hz, so maybe that's what you're hearing? I'm not sure what you mean by resonant eq though. I also ran it through an amp sim - I imagine you already amped it, but I thought it sounded nice so I went with it anyway . I also used a transient shaper to soften the attack a little in hopes of reducing some of the pick noise (...although that probably wasn't the right tool for the job). I actually didn't compress anything besides the drums and bass too heavily, so it might be the bass giving that perception. Obviously there was a lot of eq for the intro, but I actually eased up on it a lot once the intro was over. The piano was highpassed at 200hz and had a cut at 1000 to make room for the vocals, but that's it. Looking at the EQ again, the bandwidth and gain on that cut is a bit extreme though, so I definitely should have eased up on that a little bit. The mandolin was only highpassed to get rid of the bottom end energy. By sends I assume you mean busses? I did both. I used a small amount of either PM's Digital Plate reverb or Reverberate CM on the majority of the tracks, as well as a little bit of additional reverb on the drum bus and the master track. Also used PSP's pianoverb for the piano. I also put a subtle delay on a couple of the backing vocal tracks so that they were panned ~70% with a softer delay panned opposite and I used a stereo expander for the strings and some of the backing vocals. Good point, I hadn't realized how buried they were. Turning them up still doesn't make them sound nearly as powerful as yours though. I'm still not sure how to create a more full top end for this piece. I didn't really cut the highs on anything but the bass instruments and I thought I boosted a fair bit on some of the higher ones. Is there some trick I'm missing to making things sound brighter?
  15. Have you thought about using pdfs instead of jpgs or whatever format the pictures are in? I think it would be a lot easier to read through as you could scroll instead of having to click through multiple pictures. It would also make resizing/reading the text a lot easier. Maybe you could keep the pictures so that they show up in the tumblr post, but also link to a pdf? Anyway, love what I've seen so far and I'm looking forward to reading more! I don't know how many requests you get, but I guess mine would be either or from Valkyrie Profile if you ever want to do either of those.
  16. I tend not to like humourous lyrics in general, so I found manly competition, discriminated dreamwalker and oh, my dog in particular kind of strange to listen to. Nothing inherently wrong with them, just not my cup of tea so to speak. As I said though, they're definitely starting to grow on me .
  17. How come there's no youtube link for this week's source? It seems kind of strange that it wouldn't be on there considering every other mega man song seems to be.
