mod-review Super Monkey Ball 2 Ocean Stage Remix
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to SonicThHedgog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Wish I could make this in an hour, good job =) There so needs to be more mixes of the super monkey series, it has some fantastic music! -
Thanks for the response/feedback guys. Thanks Archangel,it's flattering to draw comparisons to Pachelbel's Canon in D because I was going for a similar feel to the intro. It's also good to hear some positive feedback about the panning, since that's an issue a lot of people have been picking on. And any feedback is good evory, even if you aren't entirely certain. I appreciate that not everyone will appreciate this style, since it is in the realms of a string quintet chamber piece. But I did play the beginning with that texture by purpose, although admittedly you don't hear it much these days outside of small chamber groups. Thanks for the tip on adding a few more counter-melodies to the piece, but on the flip-side I think the melody line in itself is interesting enough to my ear with the quality of sound, phrasing and usage of vibrato, but that could be just me. Anyway, yeah - it's good to get feedback like that, because it has been probably the most criticized track I've done before haha.

Hi OCremix, Here is a quintet arrangement of 'Dragonborn' from Skyrim for 3 violins and 2 violas. I decided to name it 'Strings of Skyrim' since it has a nice ring to it! While this arrangement is quite conservative melody wise , I tried to emphasize and make each instrument's role in the mix unique. I also attempted to utilized some 'answer and call passages' and different string techniques. It was great fun to play the game and then to make this track, so hope you guys enjoy =) Download Link: Video Link:

Seiken Densetsu 3: Songs of Light and Darkness - History
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to Usa's topic in Projects
Just chiming in to say that I signed the consent form and I haven't forgotten about my track. Pretty much have a structure for the song now, need to re-record some guitar bits then mix/polish/add few minor bits. Should be able to get a near final if not completed version by end of Feb. -
FF6 Remix Project -- 2 Week Extension
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to Jason Covenant's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
HMm, I love the FFVI soundtrack so much. I don't have any ideas at the moment, even though I just recorded a multi-track 'Save Them' cover, I'm interested in getting involved, either solo or collab. Better start thinking of some ideas =) -

wip Zelda OoT - Market Theme - Tavern Style
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to tweex's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
If he wants a live violin and it is only a few small parts, then I'll be very happy to do it without any credit - feels unfair to walk into someones mix when you only spend a few mins recording something lol, but it's nice to see good ideas for songs that you can make more live. -
wip Zelda OoT - Market Theme - Tavern Style
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to tweex's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This music makes me want to dance, I second also wanting a remix of it -< |-< :D/-< I thought the quavers were fine detached, it sort of depends how you want the style I guess. Playing it bouncy or all in one bow works equally well I think, just depends on what Tweek wants. A violin player might play the detached version like this? http://tindeck.com/listen/rsqp -
wip Fairy Fountain Orchestral Cover
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The vocals sound better harmonized to me, I'm probably just used to boring chords haha. The pizzicato works well when all the other instruments come in, but it still feels a bit too loud and mechanical in how it is played early on imo. Maybe make it softer when it enters, and add some dynamics to the pizz so it follows the melody, but either way, keep up the good work =) -

Haha, those were only suggestions, but keep the changes if you like it. In regards to the string section doing those swells, most string players will do that naturally, and myself personally would do that a little for that passage, but it is up to how you want it. You might want a constant, warm sound from the strings, a blanket of sound effect =) -
wip Fairy Fountain Orchestral Cover
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I love the fairy fountain theme, and it's always great to see it being arranged. I like the overall direction of this, but there are a few things to comment on. I thought the continuous double bass staccato was a bit at odds with the gentle choir and harp in the backgroun. Even changing it to a soft pizz might make it a bit softer. The only other things for the strings, is to cres. and then dim. each phrase, but I'm sure you'll get around to that soon =) The other thing that stuck out is the harmony that the choir sings at some points throughout the song. I'm at hospital so I don't think I can download anything to give you specific times, but from what I'm hearing the choir singing the D --> E flat is quite jarring(unless my pitch is off haha). However, maybe others might warm up to it more. Apart from those two main things, I still enjoyed the cover - hope to see it on your channel soon -

Yeah, really enjoyed this, glad that there are more people who really loved the soundtrack! This song was begging for a string cover, so thank you =) -
OCR02298 - Chrono Trigger "where threads connect"
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Thanks for the comments guys, we had a great time making this mix, and also allowed me to learn many things about mixing. I only did the recording side, and melody took control of the eq/reverb. I think the tone of the violin fits the second half more so than the first, which sounds a bit muddy initially and bass heavy. But I guess things appeal differently to different people =) Either way, the feedback has helped me quite a lot in my own recording and EQ/mastering of strings so thank you to everyone who commented, hopefully the other few remixes coming will have the right balance in regards to the tone/quality -

wip Jeanne D'Arc - The Sword of God (Main Theme)
Chris ~ Amaterasu replied to Sixto's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Yeah, I hadn't heard of this before you posted it, it's a great tune =) Looking forward to hearing this completed, the only thing i'd like to hear is the acoustic side of things fleshed out a bit more to give a bit more contrast to the electric side, but it sounds fantastic =)
