  1. Uh, just so we're clear, there's still some crackling at 0:01 - 0:03, 0:04 - 0:07, and 0:14 - 0:16. It's not as substantial but it's there.
  2. Um, very few ReMixes on this site are even 8-bit. The closest are DDRKirby(ISQ), halc, and other chiptune artists, and they are not really doing traditional 8-bit, nor are they officially calling themselves "techno DJs" or somethin'. You might wanna broaden your genre focus. Techno actually includes Electro, Dance, Trance, House, etc. but the 8-bit thing kind of narrows it down to almost nothing. Now if you were looking for video game ReMixes, well then that would be much easier. Btw dude, I got some funky stuff coming up on OCR eventually.
  3. It's not a "master" volume since it's just in one single plugin. If it goes over 0dB, then supposedly it's a problem. If something you render has crackling from clipping while that is near 0dB, then yes, turn it down.
  4. It's the L/R volume balance, and Link makes their volume changes consistent. Pan direction appears to be the Stereo Offset, and the Stereo box is the Stereo Widening/Narrowing.
  5. There's the stuff on my artist profile thus far. There's other stuff on my soundcloud, but some of it is not the final version.
  6. http://www.wonderfulworldofimages.com/julian-beever/julian-beever.html This isn't mine, so I dunno if I could have posted it in Post Your Art!, but man, you guys have got to see this. It's so 3D that I couldn't see it in 2D if I tried.
  7. Well, it's not like I actually know how preset saving works, dude. I don't design synths. Lighten up. Anyways... this topic's more about pianos. [/offtopic]
  8. Okay, I'll clarify. Basic waveforms vs. Samples. Squares, triangles, etc.
  9. It's just a bad sound. That's all. It's not a soundcard issue. It's the synthesis of the sound that's the issue (or maybe it's some sort of "trial mode" drawback). Whatever it is, it's not your soundcard.
  10. Well, what does the plugin look like? (You keep talking about your DAW, but you haven't said what the DAW is)
  11. Well yeah, and that's part of my point of comparison. Of course waveforms vs. samples makes that big a difference.
  12. o.o Geez, my Zebra2 presets are not even 50 KB per patch and they're pretty complex. xD
  13. Sup again! Okay, so some small things I noticed: - The second note at 0:02 is a little loud and detached from the previous note. Can be tweaked to feel more legato for this section. - The note at 0:08 also sounds detached from the previous note. Previous note can be lengthened. - There's some sort of click at 0:13, and whatever it is, it doesn't feel natural. Bigger things... That flute at 0:17 - 0:44 and other similar spots is too loud by at least 2 dB. It's not an EQ issue at the moment, just volume for now. The notes also feel a little static and can have some more evident automated swells. Try imagining a conductor. The brass at 0:44 is also too loud. Louder than the drums at 0:48. 0:48 - 1:00 also has some pretty loud brass. Could be toned down about 1~2 dB. It also doesn't feel fitting for a lead to play with such a slow attack, so maybe switch more concretely into rock rather than sticking to orchestral up until 1:00. For me, 1:00 felt a little strange having the guitar panned right and coming in from the right to the middle. It feels more like a spatial compensation than stylistic choice to me. 1:12 has some muddiness issues in the strings. Are they playing pizzicato? I can't tell because the bass is covering it up. As earlier, the leading parts of the orchestra are too loud in comparison to the guitar and the other rock elements. The violins are a little too bright in the upper treble, IMO. Guitars are already there and ready to go. Cool idea overall, can have more TLC with loudness, realism, and low-mids mixing.
  14. Legacy: Son of Legacy ~ Game Boy Advance 25th Anniversary
  15. Well, guess what? We can. Or at least, the judges can.
  16. Yeah, I guess it's more of an implied thing, but I'm sure there's probably something in the recent Judges Decisions forum that mentions realism. It's kind of embedded in this:
  17. So uh, yeah, I like Free the most now. Some pretty hella solid pop music overall. Never thought I'd say "solid" and "pop" in the same sentence, eh?
  18. It's metal. Mix it as loudly as you can stand it, then turn it down a little. I almost always mix to 0 dB, so... yeah. But ask other people to tell you how loud they think it is before finalizing it if you're not comfortable with evaluating loudness. Not many people are, and in fact, I wasn't either for about 2 years of my DAW experiences. You shouldn't always lower volumes of each layer temporarily, but sometimes it makes sense. I occasionally do that but not unless it's practical in the given context. If I think my EQ is all set and I don't want to thin things out with more cutting in the EQ, then I slightly lower the volume of the instrument temporarily. And by slightly, I mean literally 0.1~0.2dB at a time until I hear a difference, so it's so subtle that it's usually hard to tell unless you solo the track. I've been doing it subtly so it doesn't sound forced. So no, I wouldn't do it instinctively; consider what you're doing and whether it's actually necessary to do it before trying it, and make a lot of backup files.
  19. It's just a stereo separation tool that twiddles with delay times to simulate wider stereo fields. The "loudness" or whatever is probably just volume. Nothing complicated. There should be some sort of info bar or tooltip window or something in your DAW that names your parameter...?
  20. Assuming electric basses, Spectrasonics Trilian all the way (still awesome for synth basses too though). Or, Spectrasonics Omnisphere for the guitar patch with a Trilian import that comes with it. Two in one.
  21. Hopefully an hour earlier and not 2, 'cause I still gotta get home. xD
