  1. Thanks, Crulex! Yeah, the intro was meant to be spacey and futuristic.
  2. I agree. Gotta get that fixed. Also, the kick and bass are really muddy. I can barely hear the kick and the bass is quite boomy. The snare is a little buried too.
  3. Happy Birthday man! Keep judging with the best of them!
  4. Haaaaappy Birthday! : D
  5. When do you want everything finished? Early December?
  6. I'm not a mod, but oh well. Quick observations: - Free samples used, nothing inherently wrong with that. - Sequencing on these samples coupled with little to no automation of volumes for swells nor creative layering of articulations to compensate for fake samples yields an overall "soundfont-like" orchestral rendition. - The mixing in the context of these samples is OK but not great, and I was a bit disappointed in how the piano at 2:01 was so narrow and buried, which heavily cluttered that section when the violins and trumpets were playing countermelodies. This isn't the only cluttered section; listen carefully to see if you can hear where some instruments are too loud. - 3:22 is harmonically strange, and it doesn't sound right at this current state of mixing. It may sound better when the balancing is adjusted to sound cleaner or when some wrong notes are looked into. You can actually have good augmented/diminished dissonance, but that's quite hard. Setting aside an hour and a half to watch may help you. zircon's using Roland SC-88 samples.- The sequencing is mechanical as you well know from other people saying it. This should be fixed by meaningful velocity tweaking while you fix the overall realism with automation and layering of articulations.
  7. Almost every mix on OCR can be classified under multiple or obscure genres. It'd take weeks to categorize them all, provided the staff actually has more than 2 hours to themselves per day.
  8. Kanthos covered a lot of good info here. He has some good points. Also, there's some odd clicking going on throughout. It's really quiet, but it's there, so see if you can figure out why.
  9. It's great you finally got it, 'cause I got it too (with over 1000 presets, so we'll never run out lol).
  10. - Yes - Maybe - Yes, but I personally just use the basic template to the extent of your drum kit example. - If you mix well enough, barely any mastering is necessary.
  11. I posted a review of goodness on iTunes.
  12. If it's just a hobby then that's fine, but it won't get you anywhere other than relating with other gamers. Even then, once you get to a more involved and busy life, being able to play games may just help you relate to young kids to appear 'cool', but other than that... Not much benefit, really, IMO. If it's drawing too much attention away from other important things like work, your future kids (maybe), your future spouse, etc., then obviously that's a problem and the time spent on video games should be toned down some. It's really case-by-case.
  13. It's FM synthesis. An oscillator is fed into itself to modulate its own frequency with its amplitude. Increase that frequency, then add some waveshaping/distortion, a little detuning, and use multiple voices.
  14. These days I just think playing video games is not actually a waste of time, but only if you've already accomplished your to-do list for that day or week. If it's causing you to procrastinate, just stop and do what you're supposed to be doing at that point in time.
  15. Thank you for being so awesome, you guys! <3
  16. AWESOME, so this B-day mixpost worked out <3 Thank you so much guys for being super supportive and an awesome community! Sidenote: Shreddage II was released after I finished making this, so I wasn't using Shreddage II for the lead here.
  17. Emphasizing some of what I would suggest and editing in what I would add. i.e. my lazy way of posting. Other stuff: Use different Hi Hat samples for each hit to make it sound like round robin, but it doesn't have to be a consistent order. For example, you don't have to go Hi Hat 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, you can do Kick, 1, 2, 1, Snare, 1, 2, 3, 2, Kick+HH4, Snare, HH4, assuming 4 is an open HH, and 1, 2, and 3 are slightly different closed HH. Make the part realistic in terms of which sample usage order would be used to imitate a real drummer. Example
  18. The kick drum too, but I figured doing it on the snare could help you apply that idea to the kick. Currently the kick is a bit quiet. Everything else sounds awesome, though.
  19. The drums sound like they have potential, but aren't there yet. Hearing this might help you on the drum compression.
  20. Picks: 1. FF12: Penelo 2. FF6: Setzer 3. FF5: Lenna
