Well... it shouldn't.  But Square Enix has specifically objected to using their samples in the past, so OCR does not permit their use in accepted remixes.
What individual game publishers might or might not find objectionable is entirely up to them.

djp actually did say that revenue is currently exceeding expenses, so technically OCR is profiting at the moment.  I'm confident that this amount is small and is not being distributed to individuals, though, and will probably balance out before long.
When OCR files for nonprofit status, it'll involve an extensive financial audit.  If they pass, then all the fears about that should be allayed.
My concern is that the game companies won't stand for this.  If Square Enix wasn't happy about Balance and Ruin, I can't see how they'd be any happier about this.  I do believe that from their perspective and a legal one, there's a difference between monetizing visits to a site that serves many functions and monetizing views of specific remixes.

MindWanderer got a reaction from TheChargingRhino in Happy 30th Anniversary, Metroid!
I've been a huge 2D Metroid fan all along.  So many good memories.  Getting horrendously lost in the original Metroid, and my friend getting so frustrated with it that he took out the cartridge and chucked it across the street.  Going back later and mastering it, finally seeing what no-suit, no-Varia Samus looked like.  That moment in Super Metroid when you descend through Old Tourian into Brinstar for the first time, and the whole epic descent into Lower Norfair.  Finding secret areas in bizarre places in Super Metroid, and scouring it with my friends to find 100%.  Finding out what the secret of the space station in Metroid Fusion was, and yeah, the terror of hiding from the SA-X, and then those two things combining in the final boss sequence.
Wasn't that big a fan of Zero Mission--it was solid, but the way you couldn't explore the bulk of the map thoroughly until you reached the very end of the game took away a lot of the fun for me.  And when I first tried Metroid Prime, I was complete rubbish at FPS's, so I found it horribly difficult and quit at the first miniboss, though now I have the Prime Trilogy downloaded and it's fairly high on my to-play list.
AM2R looks amazing and I'm looking forward to it.  Looks like it's already been DMCA'd, but it's not hard to find anyway.

I tried listening to several of these remixes, and what kills most of them for me is the kick.  Spider Dance and Wario Land 2 were the worst offenders--that loud, high-pitched thwacking noise is actually painful to hear.  The DKC2 one was pretty nice, I really liked the energy level and instrumentation, though I'm not familiar enough with the source to comment much on the arrangement.  It seemed pretty repetitive to me, especially that repeating kettle drum line.

MindWanderer got a reaction from TheChargingRhino in What game world would you most want to visit?
Yeah, most game worlds are absolutely filled with violent death looming around every corner.  Even gorgeous worlds like Wind Waker have monsters just everywhere.  And most of them are either a medieval setting, which means no plumbing, no basic hygiene, not much entertainment (although healthcare would vary widely based on potions and whatnot) or dystopian sci-fi (with its own forms of scarcity).
Pokemon would be a pretty decent choice.  It's based on the modern day, with internet and all, just with pokemon.  On the other hand, while there don't appear to be any conventional weapons, so no fear of mass shootings or bombings per se, some pokemon have some awfully destructive attacks.  Unleash a Hyper Beam or even a Surf in a crowded area and you'd have a lot of deaths on your hands, and there doesn't appear to be any kind of regulation.  It must be very Wild West behind the scenes, with the "good guy with a gun" mentality being the default.
Splatoon seems like it would be pretty good.  There's some conflict, but not many individuals are involved in it, and no one actually dies.  On the other hand, it's basically like the real world, so not much incentive to visit it.

The accessibility is the only plus, and in my experience, the folks who are most interested in games over 20 years old are willing to put in a little bit of effort to get set up.  It's a mush worse deal if you consider that the games loaded into it are a fixed list, and with a Pi, at only a slightly greater total cost, you can put anything you want on it, including games from a dozen different systems.  There's the legality issue, of course--I'm not sure how many people this would appeal to who already have legal copies of the games in question on a cartridge, e-shop purchase, etc.
I'm not saying it doesn't make sense for some people, I just think the overall excitement level is overblown considering what else is already out there, and has been for years.
Also, the controllers aren't "fully" compatible with Wii and Wii U.  They play Virtual Console games only.  And of course, they're only 4 buttons, so effectively only NES virtual console games.  I do wonder if you can use a Wii Classic Controller on the Classic Edition NES.

One of my favorite remixers, and probably my favorite VGM song of all time.  I found this on zircon's YouTube and have been hoping for it to show up on OCR for ages.  Awesome stuff.

    More physics engine wackiness.
I hadn't heard of the Stasis Rune before, but it's brilliant.  Apparently it locks an object down so that physics temporarily do not apply to it, which is common enough in video games, but when the effect wears off, all energy applied to the object takes effect at once.  It's fantastic.
I could tell from the level design up to that point that it was coming.  BotW may be the first Zelda game where giving you true flight wouldn't actually break anything, so maybe.

MindWanderer got a reaction from hleet_tahiti in Composition vs Production? Which matters more?
And it depends what you mean by "people."  I think in most cases, a general listener would be more inclined to listen to a unique and enjoyable composition with mediocre production than a mediocre composition with fantastic production.  Audiophiles are often critical in the other direction, though.
I read through almost all the posts in the Judges' Decisions forum here, and it's much more common for them to say, "This is a great arrangement, but the production could be improved" than "The production here is great, but the arrangement is dull."  But when they get one of the former, it's always, "I really love this, please improve it so we can get it on the site," but with the latter it's more like, "meh, this isn't really what we're looking for."  It's an interesting contrast--they seem to be much more enthusiastic about composition but much more critical about production.

Oh, the speedrunners are going to have fun with that.  Combine with the parasail and you'll be able to get a lot of distance without getting the normal stamina upgrades needed to climb/swim that far.  Supposedly the world is designed in such a way that this wouldn't break too much, but we'll see.

We've seen a little of it.  Some of the Shrines contain Runes, and the way the bombs and the magnet thing work definitely would have put them in true dungeons in a traditional Zelda game.  We've seen bows and the Fire Rod just lying around in random places.  It'll be interesting to see if you need certain items to beat certain dungeons--it could be frustrating to have to track down the one shrine out of a hundred that has the right thing.  The developers have made it really clear that the overworld isn't going to have Metroid-style roadblocks in it.  I haven't played Link Between Worlds yet, but it may take cues from that.
Because you're right?  I mean, I think it's fun to theorize, but we all know Nintendo came up with this whole multi-timeline explanation way after the fact.  There are a few references in the games that say something about a chronological order, especially Ocarina of Time through Spirit Tracks, and the Vaati/Four Sword stories, but most of the others are either completely disconnected or "This guy used to be the hero in a previous adventure of some sort."  If Nintendo ever does put Breath of the Wild into the chronology in some official way, you know it's something they came up with late into its development at best, and possibly not even before it was finished.

I know it's really late in the game but... maybe you should consider renaming the album?  There will be a lot of confusion with Breath of the Wild with the current name.

Nope, not buying it at that price.  But that's just me, I'm really not willing to pay anything like a reasonable price for music stuff, since for me it's just an occasional hobby that I'm not very good at anyway.  But I'm looking forward to seeing what others come up with using it!
I think the association makes sense.  This is a product centered directly around OCR's core focus, competency, and mission.  I wouldn't be thrilled about OCR endorsing a general purpose tool like a microphone, a multipurpose synth, or a DAW, but, like OverClocked Records, this is right in the zone IMO.

Was about to say exactly what Odai said.  While it does seem to be influenced by Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus (or perhaps Assassin's Creed), and perhaps Okami, I wouldn't call those "modern trends."  These are ideas 10 years old at the least.  What is interesting is that they're not trying to go out of the box to do things that hadn't really been done before, like most Zelda games have done.  Nothing novel here, but it does look like a fun combination of things that hadn't been combined.  I've always wanted to get into Monster Hunter but was turned off by its seeming lack of directed progression, and Zelda could be an ideal solution for that.
What I didn't see a lot of was... well, Zelda.  Other than the doodad that creates objects, the art style, and the name Link, this could have been a trailer for a new Monster Hunter game.  And the doodad is only semi-Zelda-ish; it seems to be equal parts Zelda, Okami, and Minecraft.  The hands-on reports do say that it has dungeons of some sort, though there's disagreement as to how those work.  Edit: I'm watching the Treehouse now, and the gameplay is much more Zelda-ish once you get into the shrines (mini-dungeons).  But the items (runes) you get from them are much more useful than the typical Zelda items.  You can be a lot more creative with them.
Also interesting is that the game can be played with the Pro Controller.  Not surprising that there are no Wii U gimmicks, since it'll be on NX as well, but I would have expected there to be some elements implemented differently in both.  For instance, object creation and placement with the touchpad or whatever analog controls the NX has.

Oh, I'm not saying that it's an inappropriate action for the god to take.  But what you have is a character who would never exist.  He's supposed to have dedicated his life to a good god who's supposed to respect treasure, and right out the gate he violates that.  If the character had been under the control of this player earlier in his fictitious life, he would have fallen out of favor earlier.  It's not like a video game, where you're playing someone like Commander Shepard who's mostly a blank slate before the game starts.
What I would do as DM is talk to the player and discuss the possibility that he really never should have chosen this character to begin with.  He can then switch characters, or reveal a secret backstory to the character that would explain his actions, which would result in staying the same character story-wise but changing the character sheet.  For instance, he might have told everyone he worships Njord (and could continue to tell everyone this) but secretly worships Loki or Hœnir, or isn't actually a cleric at all.

So am I, and I'll reiterate: There should be a mixflood to showcase it.  Maybe there aren't enough preview copies out there to merit it, but by all accounts it's flying off the shelves.  Plus, if you do a mixflood callout, I bet there will be at least a person or two who will buy it just for the expedited judging.

Plus I've spent ages pounding my head against LSDj and just can't get the hang of anything more than simple melodies, so being able to just throw midi files into Kontakt is literally a dream come true  Watch out judge's panel, you're going to get a whole bunch of brutal chiptune death metal songs from me once this is out in the wild
