OCR01627 - Final Fantasy V "Wicked n' Floating"
Necrox replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Good to see someone put obvious work into an underrated source. A lot going on here and for good; big props for making everything flow together in arrangement, mixing, and sound design. The melody coming in at 1:53 was pretty sick and fit awesomely. Love when things get a bit darker at 3:34; the melody there is superb. Great mix. -
OCR01352 - Final Fantasy V "Harvest Hoedown"

The drums are cool, but feel a bit separate from the rest of the mix, a bit tacked on. Sample quality also hurts them, especially in the mix where they feel under everything. I agree that the pan flute is static. Organ at 2:32 sounds nice. Things are melodically conservative; some variation would be cool. It's decent and has potential. -

Knew when the first saw came in, that this would be fun and interesting. 2:50 actually almost made me get out of bed. Love the xylo writing, lives up to the title. Nice liberal interpretation. -
OCR01756 - Final Fantasy V "The Heroes Emerge"

Sax is just a bit too loud, but that's nitpicking. I like the dark intro, gives the lighter nature of the source something to contrast with. 1:57 is an interesting move; however, the climax somehow doesn't feel connected with the buildup. Seems a bit short, but solid. Props for playing. -
OCR01581 - Final Fantasy V "Dark Butz"

Nice use of chiptune, everything cuts through and sounds in its place. I like when things get a bit chaotic at 1:13, adds a nice touch of darkness. 2:25, the percussion adds a lot of color to the more simplistic melodic stuff, sounds neat. Nice twisted work! -
OCR01718 - Final Fantasy V "My Home, My Friends"

I like the dynamic, Joe Haisaishi style in this piece. It covers a lot of ground while still feeling cohesive. -
OCR03270 - Pokémon Gold Version "New Horizons"

They're posting videos now? I really like the delayed reverb on the lead guitar and the acoustic playing was expressive. The shaker was a cool choice. Not really my style, but good remix. -
So far, I've been pleasantly surprised at how much good music I've discovered. Like 1/5th of what I review gets downloaded and I'm usually picky about what I download. 80 down.

OCR02238 - Final Fantasy IV "Path of Deception"
Necrox replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Sweet drum loop. The vocals are a bit omnipresent for my taste (cool use at the end though), but it's minor. I really like how this song retains the mystical vibe of the source while still being a dancefloor track. The balance is seriously sweet. 3:19 was a nice touch and the track's mixing is stellar too. Excellent stuff. -
OCR01930 - Final Fantasy IV "The Still Land"

Brings the moon dungeon to mind in an interesting way. Expands on the source in a really nice way. The calm section before the buildup was great and the following material feels right too. The ending however, comes too soon IMO. Very good mix. -
OCR00790 - Final Fantasy IV "Leap into the Darkness"
Necrox replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The main thing IMO is the transitions. Despite some clear sample issues, I feel like the most potential is inn smoothing things up. For example, the chiptune, while nice, was out of nowhere. -
OCR00813 - Final Fantasy IV "Echoes at a Distance"
Necrox replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Very interesting style, but held back by sample quality and LENGTH. Like someone else said, this has a lot of potential. I could listen to this sort of style with this source for ten minutes and this mix just feels like an intro. -
OCR01880 - Final Fantasy IV "Somewhere to Hide"
Necrox replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Filtered intro sounded great and the sudden transition was badass. Vocals were great (nice vocoding too) and the mix is driving. SIck use of this underrated source. -
OCR01911 - Final Fantasy IV "Step Into the Light"
Necrox replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ah, Into the Darkness. This is IMO just how an orchetral arrangement of it should sound. Wonder mixed with mystery in a way that expands on the source greatly. -
OCR00637 - Final Fantasy IV "Calbrena ~ Tumultus Puparum"
Necrox replied to orkybash's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The transition to techno was abrubt, but the bigger thing for me was the lack of drive and atmosphere in the dance section. After the haunting organ and seriously bent flute, it felt very flat. Still decent overall though. -
OCR03203 - Donkey Kong Country 2 & 1 "Ocean Lanterns"
Necrox replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Excellent sound choices, really atmospheric stuff. Forest Interlude fits right in with good old Aquatic Ambience. I don't have a lot to say besides great work. -
I like recording people and sounds, and after getting up to the gigabytes in samples on my phone, I think I might want to get a field recorder. My phone is obviously not the best choice quality-wise and I don't have much space to work with either. Any recommendations?

OCR03025 - Final Fantasy VI 'Strange World'
Necrox replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Man, where are all these great experimental mixes coming from? The shaker was great as a lead-in. The jump at 2:50 is cool, as is the lead (sweet). The return of the intro and how it builds was just awesome. The solo finished things off just as well. -
OCR00744 - Final Fantasy VI "Enchanted Esper"
Necrox replied to Ginnsu's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Is this really old school OCR? Regardless of that, this is an interesting remix of a neglected source. It expands on the original like it's what the tune was meant to be. Really like how long it goes without percussion, really gives a feeling of being lost. Then when it returns, it's fresh and the scene has changed. The distorted guitar was a nice touch. I really like it. -
OCR02963 - Chrono Trigger "Kingdom of Magic"
Necrox replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Great intro, love the filtered percussion. The brass sample is lacking, but everything else sounds great. I agree with Timaeus that some more pads would have helped and the 3:21 section could have been longer, but this mix is still solid. -
OCR02976 - Chrono Trigger "In the Green Gloom"
Necrox replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Sweet soundscape; the SFX feel part of it and not just tacked on as well. Subtle entrance of the arp was quite nice and the reverbed piano is just right. I agree that the vocals were a nice touch. I gotta applaud Argle for making such a minimal mix that doesn't outstay its welcome at all. -
OCR02979 - Chrono Trigger "Jewel of Enhasa"
Necrox replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The drums fit like a glove and the violin sounds great. Very interesting entrance for the melody. I really like how abstract yet smooth this whole mix is. Props for fitting the violin into a crowd of synthetic sounds. Really good remix. -
OCR03050 - Chrono Trigger 'Cosmic Whispers'
Necrox replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
GREAT arrangement of this tune. Every section has its place and the playing is excellent too. Just beautiful. -
OCR03185 - Chrono Cross & Chrono Trigger "Timewarp"
Necrox replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Beginning with The Sealed Door brings a nice and tense vibe. The best thing is how evereything flows togeher so well. The part after 3:20 is practically a river in that regard. -
OCR03187 - Chrono Trigger "Flow of Time"
Necrox replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I like the flow of this mix; it feels like a genuine medley, not just a bunch of songs put together.
