  1. The opening pads are just gorgeous, melodically and structurally. The arp sounds great too. I really can't say enough about the soundscape; it totally brings a mysterious forest at night to mind. Minimalist and proud. The original arps around the 5 minute mark or so (don't wanna rewind) are great and the lead fits it so well. All the little sections just make this mix feel like an adventure. This is how to do an ambient remix IMO. Just excellent.
  2. Intro is just sick. The mix really lives up to its title; the metal somehow manages to continue the foreboding atmosphere without feeling forced. Nice stuff. Also, this turned me onto tank drums.
  3. 15 down, 185 to go. Finally putting Excel to some use. I think the real benefit is hearing the Anti-Syne mix I never got around to, though.
  4. Really interesting take on a near-annoyingly upbeat source. The owl sample helped with the atmosphere, but it defintely went on too long. Whem the main melody comes in, it somehow manages to not ruin the somber mood. The bassoon sounds alright, but the strings are just dated (forgivable given the context). The pad chords at the end are one of the best parts of the mix. I just wish the vibraphone had pedal usage. Overall, really good.
  5. The ska chords are pretty sick. Also, multiple game medley is on point here. 3:03 section is ally cool and refreshingre, not that the song got old leading up to it. The returns to Big Bridge are cool. It's a longer mix, but it doesn't at all feel like it overstays its welcome. SMH with a smile at the outro.
  6. DJP has a point with that snare. I also agree that it sounds like a MIDI with better guitar sounds. The cymbals are just way too loud.
  7. Didn't really get the panned bass. The solo guitar complements the backing quite well. Like Timaeus said, the amp tone is nothing special but it's not huge. I also agree that the solo just came out of nowhere. The track feels like a dark room and the solo is just huge neon lights being turned on and temporarily blinding you.
  8. I'm not familar with the source, so maybe it's just the song, but I liked the intro and the overall vibe of the song. Samples sound good for old OCR. The energetic arp compliments the laid-back pad and melody nicely.
  9. The cutoff at 0:52 just felt empty. Aside from that, it feels conservative; I almost lost interest at nearly 3 minutes in, but the pad was a nice touch. Still feel it could have been a bit shorter, though.
  10. I found the opening lead cool. The first piano break was really nice. The right-panned kick is definitely a bit strange. The acid synth was a plus. Pretty decent overall.
  11. really nice intro, despite the kick/bass kinda ruining the ethereal vibe. Things are better when the strings come in (not big on the snare, though). I agree that some separate drums sounds could flesh it out.
  12. Definitely short but sweet. I think this is the shortest posted remix in recent years that I've seen. It's solid stuff; I just wish there was more.
  13. Woah, SWEET vocoding. Atmosphere is awesome. Did I say the vocoding was great? This whole track makes me imagine a derelict space station that was once host to a futuristic, utopian society. Stuff is calmly floating around in the dark in zero g and bright images are flashing during the vocal sections. Great work.
  14. Intro backing sounds great. Love the slow section right after it; it really makes you imagine an empty world. I really like the mood changes 4:00-6:00. Changing things up after the following solo keeps the song fresh. Return of the half-time sounded nice. Cool stuff.
  15. I knew this would be good when 0:23 hit. I really like how the mellow-ish backing is by itself for a few seconds before the meldoy comes in with all sorts of flair. Main theme sounded great. Overall, really good.
  16. This is sick. Love the clean soloing and the guitar sounds just as great, tonally and musically.
  17. Sounds great even though the audio is not. Imagine how good it would be if it was longer and done on up-to-date gear.
  18. The intro is nice, but by the time things really get started, the mix is nearly half done. It also fades out when it feels only half-done. Somehow the low-quality audio doesn't detract from the mix; it actually seems to help the guitar.
  19. Great idea! I would love to hear the finished product. As a FF5 fan, I was pleased by the inclusion of Musica Machina (and the transition to it too). Empty Skies is IMO the perfect tune to end this sort of medley on.
  20. Used to "review" quite a bit. Looks like a good time to get back into it.
  21. Thanksgiving... more like Creativitygiving.
  22. Thanks. It was actually FM LFO that was the problem.
  23. https://soundcloud.com/twilight-stream/mmbn1-internet/s-cGpom I'm having trouble with the background pad. I want it to have a nice midrange lull, but however I sculpt the sound or EQ, it ends up too quiet or clipping (and that's with the limiter on).
  24. Not really expecting feedback, just something I thought the OCR folks might like.
