  1. Found ocr back in 2012 looking for final fantasy remixes. I was looking for new sounds and versatility; I also was a big metalhead at the time. Needless to say, Random Encounter (which had been out for less than a week) got me pretty dang excited.
  2. When the bassline first came in, I was disappointed it wasn't gonna be an ambient remix, but when things actually get going, the trance works. It has a nice "getting lost in the snow" sort of vibe. I like the voice-like synth responding to the bell. I like the twist at 2:59. Strong old-school OCR.
  3. Nice balance of chiptune and... non-chiptune. Not my favorite mix of his, but solid.
  4. Eh, can't say I felt this one. The arranging and production is just fine; I'm just not into it for some reason. The guitar and reverbed hits are nice though.
  5. The drums and guitar are just squashed by everything else, which ruins the power they might bring to the mix. The guitar solo helps though. Not really my type of rock, but fair enough.
  6. The piano and pluck both fit the melody really well. It's a strong start, but I feel like there is a bunch more that could be done. It's too short and barebones.
  7. Hey, it's Slimy! Good to see him finally get posted. While I don't know the source, I agree that this baroque-like remix seems to fit really well. Nice job creating an atmosphere of darkness, an image of the interior of a dark castle came straight to mind. Also, as Chernabogue said, this is a highly versatile and dynamic orchestral mix. Lots of good arranging. Really good mix.
  8. This is pretty cool. Nice conceptual blend of games. I really like the ebb and flow of the backing via release automation. the drum loop is also fits pretty dang well. The glitching is on point; 3:10-14 brings Go Plastic-era Squarepusher to mind. Ending is a bit lacking though, left me hanging. Overall, nice work!
  9. Hey, have you heard of Autechre? SUPER in-depth electronic stuff, I feel like you might like it. They're on Warp Records if you're familiar (Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Squarepusher).

Hadn't yet; sounds like something Clem would listen to. :) Have you heard the Remember Me OST? I find it to showcase a mangled orchestra.

I'll have to check that out.

  10. Another slab of haunted, distorted ambience. It moves subtly and demands attention yet it's not any more difficult than other stuff he's done. The crescendo of the whole track is madness. Guess this is the end of the CotMM catalog for now. Good stuff.
  11. This one just sounds evil; it trades subtlety for nightmare fuel. The vocal processing is sick. the whole mix is almost like a giant robot's intricate inner workings gone berserk. Nasty, in the best way possible.
  12. I agree that the mix of chaos and melody is delicate on this one. 2:46 is primal. The kick is a nice release to end the section, abstract but effective given the context. The grimy static sounds so alive, gotta love it. Good mix.
  13. Love that glassy pad. The solo drum loop stands surprisingly well on its own, hypnotic stuff. The drum programming in general is impeccable, amazing work. Definitely cleaner than older stuff, but it loses none of the mystery and atmosphere. Heck, it might be the best one I've heard so far. Amazing mix.
  14. Once again, amazing ambience, especially like the screeching highs. The minimal percussion speaks volumes when it does speak.
  15. Excellent twisted ambience. I like how the early drums are heavier than a house but buried. It's also nice how that famous background harmony works its way in without much fanfare. The feedback at 3:01 is mean as rotted mincemeat. 4:19 sounds like a light in the darkness, bright but failing to overwhelm the mysterious surroundings. The synth at 5:00 is just great. Another great mix.
  16. Don't know the source, but that opening soundscape definitely brings places to mind. Cold, damp, dark, and alone indeed. The lead melody is just beautifully dark. The chime (?) is nice and subby, adding a fat layer of atmosphere. Pads at 2:55 are really nice and the synth growls are excellently designed. Seriously haunting. Great mix.
  17. Those are some nice twisted vocals. The bass sounds killer, distorted to a fury. Found the lead a bit overbearing. The beat is better described as a pulse and that's a complement. More than the vocals or monster SFX, I found the creepiest element of the outro to be that bent synth. Interesting, wish it was longer.
  18. I remember hearing this forever ago and not liking it. WHY. Superb atmosphere and SFX, longing and desolate. Not much to say here.
  19. I really like how the VII theme gets played and then there's a metaphorical question mark. It's also intriguing how the saw clashed with the tense atmosphere, almost like something is being slowly deconstructed. Transition to Jenova is fun, just sraight-up without being disjointed. Solid.
  20. I like how somber the melodic content is in the opening haze. The constant distortion is nice, especially when things kick in at 2:10. I like how the static slowly fades and subtly returns with less prominence. CotMM's textures complement the guitar well. 4:45 is honestly gorgeous. Very interesting mix, really liking CotMM's haunted industrial noise.
  21. Fitting the source like a glove. Great sound choices and the noisy percussion (love that snare) is aggressive and awesome. Really good remix, nice and tense.
  22. Don't like how much wider the vocals are in the mix than everything else, but very nice industrialism. 2:23's minimalism really brings the title to mind, good job on the atmosphere. The ringy synth that reappears at 3:30 is my favorite part of the mix. 4:44 embrace of source sounds sweet, especially with the percussion. A wall of noise worth hearing.
  23. Just too short. Gotta like how fat the FM synth is though. Interesting arp going on in the background too, adds some suspense.
  24. Really cool, sounds like raw unrequited sadness. The distortion gives it a nice hard edge while the wah sounds mournful, almost like crying in a way. Piano sounds nice underneath the vocals. Really interesting stuff.
  25. The pan flute synth sounds way too clean compared to all the other gnarly noise going on. Melody is a bit too buried for my taste though. The synth at 1:48 is pretty cool, liked how it pulsed out and then back in again. The SFX were nice too.
