Speeding Towards Adventures: 25 Years of Sonic the Hedgehog - History
Black_Doom replied to Black_Doom's topic in Projects
So, guys, I finally got to listening to Klaus' WiP. It's something very reminiscent of DrumUltima stuff. Very smooth thing, with some orchestral hints. Also, if someone can help me in describing production issuses, I would be very glad. PM me if you're interested in being a feedback guy. -
But hey, it's another reboot of this universe. We've already had them like... 9000 times. What do we complain about? P.S. I find it suspicious how often WiiU version is compared with S'06. DON'T YOU WANT TO SAY S'06 IS TOTAL CRAP????? Ok, maybe the plot is much better than in some latest games? Hmmm, according to Wikipedia Oh, this is soooo new and fresh...

Yeah, 3DS version is better. I have no idea why they made them different. Oh, well... As for cartoon, I can say that it's pretty silly. But I like some detailes. For example, the relations between Sonic and BaldyMcNoseSomething became much... closer. Literally. O_o Knux also doesn't look as total dumbass, who is easy to deceive.

OCRA-0031 - Wild Arms: ARMed and DANGerous
Black_Doom replied to Level 99's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
This album is really full of absolutely different jams in different styles and each jam is certanly cool, but the most surprising mix for me is "I Now Pronnounce You Incorrectly". What started with some retro textures later evolved into edm piece with some strings here and there, which also evolved into dupstep piece and then it returned back to edm and then to a nice retro outro. Very good! Another favorite track is "Forbidden Perception". Awesome sweeping percussion. Love the funky guitar too. But heavy parts are not bad at all. The third favorite is RW's downbeat D'n'B ethnic jam "What's Left". Seriously, it's awesome. Full of sadness, darkness and tension. So, these tracks are my top-3 favorite. But other tracks aren't worse. I'm just too lazy to describe all my favorites -

Done! Glad to see the first progress here Actually, I'd got Robbie's WiP before, but nevermind... -
OCR03017 - Shuttle Rush 'The Observer'
Black_Doom replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Gotta admit that this is unexpected for me. I've heard some of Pete's stuff and it was mostly percussion-heavy tracks with some synth and other stuff. But when I've heard piano and brass and other orchestral goodness, I was quite surprised in a good way. Of course, the percussion breaks in later, but the track doesn't become less good. BTW, I've got some similiarity of this and "Mega Blocked" in bass melody. Maybe it's just me... Anyway, superb thing, it's worth your listening. -

Wasn't big fan of this one whe I heard it at first time. But now I'm lovin' it so much. Sexxxxy, but still kinda sad. Awesome interpretation of sources, especially of GHZ and SYZ. While the originalas are bouncy and happy, they're much slower here, blended well with other soucres. And when I heard vox, I had a tear of both joy and sadness. Very slick stuff! -
A Bird Story is an indie game from Freebird Games. If you don't know, this studio released To the Moon, which is freakin' awesome game and it has a special place in my heart. Anyway, this game is about a boy and bird with broken wing. It takes place in To the Moon universe, being prequel to TtM. There's nor Dr. Watts, neither Dr. Rosalene, but the boy will later become their patient. It also have one intersing feature. This game has no dialogues at all. But there're boy's memories, imagination and dreams. So this game is quite awesome. You should buy it. Game site: http://freebirdgames.com/games/a-bird-story/

OCR01526 - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 "Knuckleduster"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ah, this is so much classic. This is just so ridiculous, but so groovy and even soulful. Excellent vocals and synth and organ, but I like piano here most of all. And also I like percussion in the 2nd verse. Nice outro as well. -
OCR01432 - Commander Keen V "Slick Rippin Keen"

One wise man once said: And he's totally right. By the time I heard this one, I'd thought that Mazedude can't impress me anymore. Jazz, solo piano, chiptune, industrial, orchestral, I couldn't imagine something new. But it happend. This mix is so bouncy, I gotta say! A lot of craziness is going on here, that's true. But my most favorite part is that starts at 1:16, when only synths and quirky bass are left. I'm pretty satisfied with this piece, considering the fact that it was made nine years ago. But Chris' stuff is always classic, right? -
OCR02804 - Donkey Kong Country "Focus"

When I at first heard this, I thought "Hey, this is ambient! It can't be DarkSim work!" But the ambient intro is actually very good, being a bit long, though. Then, after a two-minuite intro, it finally breaks out. And it's... Just wow. Pretty impressive. I esecially love when piano returns and blends with cool beats and synths and all that stuff. That synths at 5:18 are just stellar, by the way. Nice work, man! -
OCR01553 - Tetris Attack "Final Panic"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is what I call a serious debut. The blend of eastern-inspired percussion and symphonic elements is genial. It just sounds like a piece from the OST of a film about war or other conflict. The section at 1:51 was very unexpected, but welcome. Love the flute. Very strong stuff. -
OCR02730 - Pokémon X "WHAT TYPE ARE YOU"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Probably, this is the best track from the album. Just because of that music box intro. Seriously, who doesn't love it? Ok, jokes aside, this is typical ToN arrangement, but this is good fact, see? Upbeat, full of energy, it doesn't repeat for a second, which is always a good thing. And that chiptune outro is simply adorable. -
Bad dudes seem to love Sagat's theme, don't they? Ok, this is cool stuff. Of course, the main star here is trombone, but the non-trombone parts are also funky and just catchy as hall. And chippy break is really fitting here, considering that the main genre of this track is far away from being totally electronic. Oh, forgot to mention, the piano that appears here just for a few seconds is a nice touch as well. Superb thing!

OCR02785 - Sonic CD (JP) "Paradise Paradox"
Black_Doom replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Duh... ONLY 2 REVIEWS???? This tune is so great, it deserves more! Anyway, there's nothing groundbreaking here, but it's still a very neat arrangement. All incorporated themes work together quite well here, but my favorite here is Bad Future section. Dat wubs are so pretty <3 All in all, very pleasant and variable mix, so perfect to listen to on these cold November days. -
OCR02367 - Sonic Adventure "Chaos Nightmares"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
So, this is one of the first OCReMixes I've ever heard. And even today it blows me away every time I'm listening to it. Awesome take on original theme. I've always got chills from the original and the intro cutscene, so I do here. And vocals are so tasty! I also like how it drops at 4:05 and then kicks back. Pretty toe-tapping and head-bopping tune. -
The intro is just so peaceful and calm. But when it kicks and becomes more upbeat, more uplifting, it doesn't become worse. Love the chippy synth at around one minuite mark. I also find it rather interesting when it drops at 1:48 and pianos come in. Gotta agree with DarkeSword, btw. Guitars are just top-notch here.

OCR02641 - Shenmue "Tomato Tomahtoh"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Damn, the intro is sooooo sexy. Just a ton of sexuality. Best ad evah, seriously. But I actually like the whole piece. Maybe it's quite simple, yeah. Love the cheesy lyrics here. And that brass is just killer. -
OCR02942 - Pokémon Gold Version "BITE"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Ah, this is such a jammin' tune! Super funky, with some chippy leads, punchy beats and of course terrific bass for good measure. Pretty cool. -
OCR02989 - Final Fantasy VI "Toxic"
Black_Doom replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I like how both title of original and remix fit this mix. Heavy, toxic, but very enjoyable. The transition at 1:12 to more fast-paced part with grittier bass is pretty nice, just as the transition at 1:45 to chippy, even upbeat, section. Awesome. -
OCR02891 - Gunstar Heroes "Nice Legs"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Sir J seems to be kind of musical god. He can work almost in all genres. While his previous solo mix was just genre chimera - dupstep, funk, disco, etc., this is one more jazzy. This is also, as I said, more obvious way to arrange the source. With plenty of brass, fantastic drums and "spicy" guitar, it's surely a badass spy-themed jam. -
OCR02906 - Final Fantasy IV "Dreams of Glory"
Black_Doom replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is glorius. It captured my attention right from the beginnig. I especially love the drop at 1:11. It's obiuosly the best take on this Cid's theme. Badass, hard-hitting, definitely one of my favorites from the album. -
OCR03013 - Super Mario 64 'See You Next Time'
Black_Doom replied to Liontamer's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is very similiar to his MK64 mix. Awesome upbet goodness right here. This defintely feels like a Staff Roll. And happy piano along with dynamic strings makes this feeling even stronger.
