  1.

I haven't heard a lot about this game apart from that it was a PS Vita release in Japan, but is now coming to PS4 and PC in the US. It is an RPG homage to Chrono Trigger, if you believe game journo blogs, though the piano music I have heard so far doesn't fall far from the mark.

Unlike the PSP remaster that became FF Type-0, this was on Vita so if all they're doing is a simple remaster, the quality might come out considerably better. It already looks not-bad mostly because of the art style, despite samples shown still being Vita-sized. :)

Particularly excited to see the OST come out on Youtube, but this seems like a game I would probably buy.

And Square Enix is KILLING it this year. KILLING it.

    Cool!

Also I'd like to stake my claim on Galbadia Garden (I've gotten in touch with Brandon about this).

INDEED. Sorry for taking a cool minute to get back to you. Galbadia is a pretty weird theme, interesting opening, then some FF7 Market stuff going on. Anyway I'll mark you down for it. :)

  3. Yo Judges! How's that panel doing? ;) Only asking cause it's a couple months since the last update to the thread. I may be wrong but I have almost no songs to be posted. I have 3 for FF9, one for FF5, and 1 for another album that should be coming soon.

It's my fault though for having a big gap of time where I wasn't submitting but thought I'd ask anyway, I have a few in the inbox at least and maybe some on the panel!

ed; ok so there was 1 ;p

  4. That's cool, we could do with a little smallening -- it'd be awesome to have a tight single disc experience. Around 13 tracks is probably solid for a single disc, I'd like to throw my hat into the ring at some point too. I'm pretty satisfied even moving forward with the current group of people (not all of which have reported in). Have you talked to anyone else apart from ecto? Feel free to send me a PM so we don't end up coordinating in this thread!!

It'd be awesome to get a few more town theme remixers involved here.. I figure a few more folks may drop out. Though everyone who expresses interest in staying on, even if they need help to pass the panel, we can give it our best work.

  5. Yeah, mixing and mastering your song would be no problem if that's what you want. :) My only thought from what you said, is if you're sending a sample that includes parts you don't have access to (such as other band members playing live drums or something) it might be better to only include instruments / sounds you have access to as it would best represent what you are capable of making. Unless you think you could work with your band to make the remix, then that'd be cool. :) Good luck with your resub too!

I would very much like to get involved in this (I have my eye on the song "SeeD" which nobody appears to have claimed yet) but I don't have any posted mixes on OCR - I've got a resubmission in the Judges' Queue at the moment but it's been there for the better part of a year. How would I go about submitting an audition and what should it contain?

Apologies if this should be common knowledge, I've not gotten involved in any projects before! Thanks for your patience :)

You could send me a clip of your very best work in a private message, an mp3 would be fine. :) I'd avoid WIPs, when you send in auditions (now and in the future) your goal is to show the director what you are capable of, and whether your work is good enough to be included among the other remixers involved in the album. So, very best work!

As for your resub that has been sitting so long, you should try contacting the judges panel. There's no justification for a resub, or even a regular submission, to sit for the better part of a year. I'm not completely sure who you could even ask now and get a response though, maybe @Chimpazilla! What about you @zykO? ;)

Dunno when OCR got a reputation for being anti-repetition, when we have a lot of mixes with some manner of it. We're just against lazy and excessive repetition, usually when it involves minimal changes or (worse), the dreaded cut-and-paste. :-)

Yup that's pretty dang true. There's a lot of stuff that gets passed even with cut and paste. (looking at Trance type stuff!) But the key word here is "lazy and excessive repetition" -- if it's not enjoyable then that's not a good thing. And making stuff less repetitious is as easy as changing up a drum beat for the second repetition. Why copy/paste the drum track when it's so easy to play the drums in,or heck, even click them in? /shrug

I do have mixes with some repetition. But I repeat parts I think are enjoyable. Too much is too much, if people really want to hear something again, they can listen to the song again. That's how I keep out of excessively-long mixes, tho it depends on genre too.

So I dunno I think I disagree with the ideas put forth about OCR, or the accusations? Whatever you'd call it :)

As for whether my stuff sounds samey, you try making 80 songs and having them all sound completely different. Besides, I make music that I want to hear. I could make the same song over and over if it's what I like. :)

  8. Come on folks, get excited!

Here's what I've been looking at, it's really difficult to choose a town theme. I finally at long last settled on this non-lyrical theme from NieR

I'm not 100% sure on writing my name down for the claim yet, though, mostly because the soundtrack is so good that it'd be a bit of a shame, a bit of an insult, if I did something with it. I could mix it with a hero theme such as Yonah or Kaine themes.

On to other things, here's a couple of Town/City themes that I would like to see someone try to remix, although I don't think anyone could do it. I don't even think I could do it given a few months.

^ The entire game of Remember Me takes place in the city of Paris, maybe not quite what the project concept had in mind, but with games becoming more modern this is kinda what happens :)

For laughs here's 1 more town theme, though not one I would say is overly difficult to remix. It's just a really enjoyable theme.

  9. I disagree with any assertion that "OCR did _________ to my music"

OCR will help you learn to write more interesting and concise arrangements. But it doesn't force you to write that way any more than you have to "unlearn" how to write enjoyable, concise songs later on because OCR ruined you and those people on Youtube know what they're talkin' about, why did I ever listen to the judges when fetuspuncher13 and kardashianfan69 is around?

I have to unlearn everything I know so I can go back to making something "pure"! Haha alright dude! Meanwhile the only thing you unlearn is the idea that someone helped you get where you are ^_^
