  1. In the time it takes you to get good at sequencing fake guitar, you could buy and learn a real guitar, probably for around the same price as you'd drop on expensive VSTs. If you get good on a $100 strat you'll get good on anything. But despite what marketing slogans and marketing people might tell ya, there's no easy path to what you're trying to do. There's the slow uphill path towards your goal, and the larger, sphincter-like stinky path downwards into financial ruin and obviously-fake-sounding-guitar-that-people-wont-enjoy! Not saying people will like your live playing either, at least not for the first year or so, depending on how lazy you are. :)

  2. Haha, not focusing on obscure towns was a good idea then, because pretty much all town themes are obscure just because they're town themes, not main themes.. even then for a lot of games main themes are obscure.. if you leave the video game community bubble, I guess. I dunno haha.

But yeah, the big question here is what are we going to do now here? Maybe sleep on this for a few days and make sure it's what you really want to do (giving up the album). People are getting home from MAG and sleeping for a week right now anyway. I'm a little fascinated to see the tracklist and get back into the subforum, but I could just do that as a remixer, if you decided to keep this. I say let's let this deal simmer for a few just to make sure.

But in the meantime of course if there's people who were remixing on this album now would be a good time to revisit your songs and make sure they kick butt, submit to the panel if they're done...you can get feedback from a NO, or it could pass, either way it'd be beneficial so things could move forward with the songs

  3. Attaching price to the product is irrelevant though, especially when you could just buy the handsome collection that includes all the DLC. It's been on sale for like $24. Probably less on that PC casual platform

but people are going to pay what they feel the product is worth and I don't know, everyone feels quality and quantity in a different way

  4. U know what game had less content than all of those, The Order 1886.. but I loved the hell out of that game. One of the best games on my PS4, and I bought Fallout 4.. I put it on top tier next to Bloodborne.

Fallout 4.. has a lot of content, but its annoying as hell copy paste of the same shit to extend the gameplay.. I can understand some people being into that but noooo.... I've heard New Vegas was better but it froze when I forgot to save and I never played it again. ^_^

But yeah The Order 1886. People absolutely trashed the game. But it's really one of theeee beeeeeest games-as-art ever made, and I don't consider a lot of games to be art. The ironic thing is that the 8~ or more hour length of the game is really not that short. Nobody whined about BioShock Infinite being 11 hours with no multiplayer

I don't go to theaters because of reasons. But If I did I'd buy the popcorn, some snacks, a large drink, bring an expensive girl, watch 20 minutes of the movie, use the restroom, go back to my seat and play on my phone

  5. Oh ye

I have no idea of what's here. I used to have access to the subform but it went away. They must have realized I wasn't on the album, I was going to make something if I had time though which was a funny idea but I never had the time between all the stuff that was going on.

a small ocra is possible, shoot for around 10 mixes. Being able to pick any town theme would be really helpful and give people a lot to choose from.  The quality bar would be higher because half of the songs would have to pass the panel, preferably more than half would be nice

  6. Over a year after there was a post here.. I believe a small bit of explanation is needed, though there should be an episode of OverClocked PodCast coming up that sheds more light on what happened. I got sick last year, that's the very very short version of it.

Anyway, Cheryl Norfair and I have made another song for Chapter 1 of this album, the good thing potentially being that nobody from Dwelling of Duels damn remembered this thread where the song was listed as being one that I would do, so nobody reported it to the authorities and got us taken out. It's the Xenoblade Chronicles remix of Beyond the Sky. I don't have it on YouTube yet because I'm still trying to reinstall software, I basically do not have the ability to put it up... so in the meantime, here's a regular untagged mp3 -- UPDATED from the DoD version. I might update it further. Feel free to share some feedback though, can't guarantee I'll take it  all into consideration, but I'm already planning to possibly add more reverb to the vocals.

I'm also going to refrain from saying who I am collaborating with in the future until it's set in stone. That should help avoid some awkwardness of saying who is helping and then they're not involved at all.

In other news, still have a fully arranged and recorded remix of David Bowie's New Angels of Promise from Omikron, missing the vocals though. There's only 2 more songs left to touch in chapter 1, a couple more to finish apart from that but which already have progress. I want to pick this up a lot better this year, so wish me luck.

  7. I think another thing is people put too much weight on the term "director". I even see that happening now outside of OCR with other albums. I mean I get it, you're coordinating this thing, you like it, organizing art, gaining remixers and songs.. how much direction is really going on?

Here's when I would call it directing.. when you're personally working with a remixer to redo a song 7 times because the pacing isn't quite right, or the atmosphere is a little off. When you specifically tell an artist what to make, and in what style, and throw it back at them a few times for specific revisions. Replacing people when something doesn't come out exactly how you want it. And I think The Shining is kind of a shitty movie personally, but you can't deny that is directing.

I really wish people would move more towards the term "coordinator" because the way I see it, that's really what this is. You're coordinating a bunch of artists (both musical and visual) to create art in their own way, maybe with a small bit of instruction, but mostly letting them do what they do best and accepting that to be what is the eventual product. I'd like to use the recent Satoru Iwata album as an example. The artist just showed up in the thread and people were like "Yeah let him do it!" Then he did basically what he wanted for the cover. People as a community had some suggestions, but ultimately it was his thing what he did. The music had a lot less community involvement. At least for me, I made a song, and I sent in a WAV. That was the extent of our business relationship.

I don't know, I don't guess this is really relevant to what is happening in the thread right now, but I find it interesting. It'd honestly be cool if Mirby reconsidered, and shot for an OCRA release with this, because it's possible to do that. Though if time is a concern, it is what it is.

What I could say though is that in the off chance this actually did land on my desk, I'd have to evaluate what's already been done and who is involved, and possibly make changes to shoot for that OCRA release.

  8. The results are coming out today after the main concerts!

Don't be discouraged by your placement.. that's the main piece of advice I can give anyone. Because for one thing most of my entries end up becoming DPs on OCR, or at least they pass. Not a gloat. I'm just telling YOU as an artist, not to put that much value into your numerical placement. The DoD crowd wants a specific type of straightforward metal, and the in-person votes during MAG are worth more than online votes, and most of the people are drunk and being goofy instead of taking it seriously. The in-person votes are worth more because (1) there's more of them usually, and (2) they're much more unfairly cast. Many 0s, many max scores. It's like Amazon reviews. It's not valuable to you as an artist.

Not even scratching the surface of debate on production or arrangement quality, it's less important on DoD than it is at OCR. That's just a fact, and you will see examples of that when the results come out.

No disrespect, I mean it has caused me to not enter DoD quite so often, because the feedback isn't quite as valuable as it should be. But you can still use feedback you get from there if it seems reasonable. But the fact that you have to question whether it is reasonable makes it less valuable. On OCR you will get valuable feedback.

    Sorry if I offended anyone.

  9. The only way to save Street Fighter is with Street Fighter 6, and they will do that by hiring OCR to do the music again, and actually making all of the modes people expect, making online functional, and basically not trying to wring you out for money like a wet rag

  10. but djp would do it

Did you even send in the music yet? I'd say focus on the information, artist notes, director notes, websites for each artist.. send that to djp and hopefully the music has already been evaluated.. might be the difference between this coming out in 2016 instead of 2017 if you do this and stop stalling. Sorry for being upset with you but damn.

  11. Did you want DJP to come to your house and be like "OH PLEASE LET ME DO IT"

Besides that I'm pretty damn sure I've told you months and months ago how cool djp was/is about making the website for the FF projects. I'm pretty DANG sure I recommended to you that you just let him do it.

I'm pretty GOSH DARN FLIPPIN' sure that I want djp to hostile-takeover the website right now

  12. Damn it Meteo nobody gives a damn about how fancy the website is. It'll look better and be more functional if DJP does it. And I'd really prefer my music not sit for 10 years, over 5 years is already more than enough. Out of respect for the music and the artists, just let djp handle the site, which generally speaking he said he can do.

Do you realize what you're even suggesting with this Wordpress template stuff? What you're asking is for OCR to set up the configs, create a SQL database and install all that shit just for ONE album. The site doesn't need perpetual updates. They don't need to publish A BLOG for this album's website.

AND YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE THE CONTENT DONE YET FOR THE SITE. THE ONLY THING YOU NEEDED TO DO.

I'm leaving before I get mad

so flippin' bummed i couldn't go this year.  Hope everyone is having an awesome time!

You're more than welcome at the Anti-MAGfest. It's going really great. I'm actually making a short list of themes and events present at the show:

    1. Personal couch, personal recliner, etc (varies by person)
    2. Easy-access beverages, water cooler (again varies by person)
    3. Special musical guest my cat
    4. No crippling anxiety
    5. No armpit stench for 3 damn days from people who don't know how to bathe
    6. Quality time with the person you look up to (yourself)
    7. The only drama is that which is on our over-sized TVs, which we also get to ourselves
    8. Easily drive out to get party food or drink, gas is $1.63 a gallon, lowest it's ever been here
    9. All the phonies, sycophants, and assholes are not allowed at your party, unless you are that
    10. People don't judge you when you want to get away from their noisy ass, because nobody's there

All in all it's pretty ok

Oh yeah, I forgot to add, saving roughly $1,000. That's good stuff.

  14. Hopefully I can answer with everyone being at MAG, they can correct me if they need to when they get back.

It wouldn't infringe on your "copyrights" but would infringe on the publisher of the original composition, so for everything to be above-board you would need to license the composition from the original publisher. OCR releases the remixes for free in a non-exclusive way, for use in media that is not monetized. To monetize a remix as part of a product (either by OCR or by another entity) without appropriately licensing the material, would infringe on the publisher's rights and they would be entitled to take action against the product. So in short OCR doesn't do it, and you probably shouldn't either, without licensing.

Ask that dev if they'll cover the licensing fee in addition to giving you your payment (not take it from your cut). But if they're trying to get remixes of existing music over twitter that they can just use in their game, they're probably not being too ethical about it. Tho it's not for me to judge.

  15. Site-wide mutiny, take-over.. let's do it, though I am American, so I hope that doesn't mean you're excluding me from the fun.

We should schedule the Anti-MAG party each year for those of us who can't go or don't go anymore.

In fact we should have our own thread. Only problem is I'm almost 100% sure the negative nellies would have it closed and deleted, despite not even supposed-to-being-here while they're at MAG.

  16. Hey! The sample quality leaves a bit to be desired. The intro section doesn't work too well with the changed lead writing, no bass accompaniment.. The samples are dry which really accentuates that quiet part at 0:42 -- No atmosphere.

The drums sound cool, but the reverb should be on everything but the kick. This is backwards. You have a reverb kick and the other pieces are dry.

The overall mixture of sounds gets better at 1:32 -- although there's a really weird drumfill at this point. The amount of instrumental accompaniment here is the best in the whole WIP. The drum writing is absolutely ridiculous. At 2:21 are you trying to write Fragments of Memories, or "Decimated Fragments of a Satanic Winter Moon"? Did you accidentally trip over the death metal switch on the drum machine?

There's some cool ideas in here, but in general the writing needs to be made more enjoyable and accessible, and most importantly, consistent. Changing up the lead melody isn't even all that necessary if you do a good enough job of expanding the supporting instrumentation. The intro goes on for too long with sparse writing, the drums are produced oddly, and the structure needs a lot of work. There's no additional original structure writing to go along with the original source, so it's like a cover with crazy drums and some weird notes in the lead right now.
