OCR01942 - Super Mario Bros. "Bros with Dix"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is incredible. Took me a while to realize it wasn't live. I was little confused at first when the song started, because I hadn't expected to hear music from SML. The writeup doesn't mention it and nowhere on the page does it say this remix contains music from any other game than SMB (other than the songs list, which don't say anything about which games the songs are from, only the song names). The name of this thread, however, lists all the games. Weird. Anyway, back on topic, awesome job. :nicework: -
OverClocked ReMix Design ?'s and Issues
Dafydd replied to Liontamer's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
Got it too. The distance between the rest of them is a little big too, I think, as is the distance between the album titles and their images, which is probably a result of removing the sidebar, enabling the frame to cover nearly the whole screen. -
Pocky and Rocky "Haunted Shrine" remix
Dafydd replied to Henrymop's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This synth bass is terrible. Switch if for something a lot less squelchy. I don't know if you want these synths to sound like guitars, but if you do, try adding a little bit of reverb (not too much now!) to add some illusion of depth and increase the release time for the notes a little bit (I'm assuming you're familiar with the Attack, Delay, Sustain, Release "system"). There's a few places where notes seem to be clashing terribly, mostly where that extra power chord synth comes in. Overall, this is pretty well done, and I don't think you should give up on it just yet. Drums are pretty nice. I'd advise you to change the thread title (click or double-click next to it in the list of threads here in this forum) so people can see what this is a remix of before they open the thread. That way you may have a chance at more comments than now. -
Sounds like it's being played in the next room. Try bumping high frequencies. Nice performance though.

WIP - Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Dafydd replied to Suitmonster's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Too much reverb, at least on the bass, and hats are too loud. Banjo = awesome. I'd compare your bassline with the source and see if there aren't places where you'd rather have it play the same notes as in the original. -
OCR01937 - Mega Man 3 "Ravaging Reptile"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Up until 0:25 it reminds a lot more of the "Control" level in GoldenEye 007 than the source, which is interesting. The synthwork here is incredibly elaborate, but I feel the rhythms that make the original so catchy are somehow lost here. That said, it's still an incredible mix! -
How about something from System Shock 2? Cyber Module Psi symbol The Many Med Hypo More: http://www.ngst.nu/MonkeyBrain.gif http://www.ngst.nu/OSUpgrade.gif http://www.ngst.nu/Marines.gif http://www.ngst.nu/GamePig.gif LT: Didn't like The Many; The Marines wasn't sharp enough. The ones with transparency weren't sharp and looked pretty bad. Taking just the OS Upgrade, but it's a nice one.

Can't turn off "read-only" setting for folder.

Actually, it's "Maple 12". That said, it's possible it contains malware. I'll run a virus scan and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion. If that doesn't do it, I'll try a boot disk and replace the file I'm trying to replace from there. -
Can't turn off "read-only" setting for folder.
Dafydd replied to Dafydd's topic in General Discussion
It's a folder in the Program Files folder. Does it matter? -
Running Vista, there's a folder on my computer that I can change the read-only settings for but they keep resetting themselves, effectively meaning I can't make any changes to the folder. This includes changing, renaming, adding or removing files. What do I do?
-
OK. I'll keep it quiet until further notice, then.
-
Oh. Ok. Well, in case the others give up, do you want me to keep this wip away from public until they're done, or can I consider it a non-project wip and post it in the wip forum right away? Glad I didn't ask you first though, if I'd known I wouldn't have made it, and I learned a lot in the process and bumped my self-confidence while I was at it. Sounds a little violent, not to mention it loses the "spy" feel. But nicely done!
-
Very nice.
-
Well, I still agree with you that it needs remixes. It's just hard, that's all.
-
I've had a few attemps with forest green, but all of Soule's music is so complex that it's hard to change anything without making stuff sound terrible.

Since Tail Cave still wasn't claimed according to the first post, I made a wip and uploaded it to the ftp. Please tell me what you think! Personally, I think the bass is ugly and the vox should probably be run through autotune after I rerecord it for better timing - then I'll raise the volume on them, too. Lead guitar is a little sloppy. Drums loop. Other than that, I think it's pretty cool so far. I should probably throw a wurlitzer in there too for good measure. About the title, it sounds like spy music, and "Tail Cave" can only mean one thing to a perv like myself. I guess there's a better phrasing for what I'm trying to say though. Try to squeeze in something about the prophet of muh-fisto if you can.

I guess you're right. I'll change it back. Later.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business - History
Dafydd replied to Geoffrey Taucer's topic in Projects
Lucky you. You've been around for a while now though, so any progress for you is well deserved. -
Everything here is a little out of tune with everything else, but besides that, this sounds very pro. The performance is great, as is the arrangement, and the recording and mixing is wonderful. I agree the volume is a little low, but it doesn't make a difference to me. I have various knobs on my computer, both real and virtual, to compensate.

OCR01933 - Super Metroid "Berinstar"
Dafydd replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
The timing is a bit sloppy at times, and sometimes it feels like the drummer meant to do some kind of fill but almost dropped the sticks and didn't. Overall though, this is very cool. The recording and mixing leaves nothing to ask for. -
I'm too lazy to check if this was mentioned already, but in all of the dropdown menus that have a search field, those search fields already contain text like "search games..." and it's hugely annoying how that text stays unless you manually remove it, i.e. it doesn't delete itself when you click on the field to type something. The "search games..." field next to/behind the mascot on the top right corner of the screen, however, works like it should. Also, it would be nice if, once you've started typing something into any of these dropdown menu fields, you need to *click* to get to another menu, rather than just by mouse-overing. As it is now, you can be typing something in the "people" search field and simultaneously move the mouse (accidentally or not) over the word "music", thereby loading the "music" menu instead, which you don't likely want to do since you're typing something in the "people" search field. The menu is getting to be more and more agreeable. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Got it. I'll update the wiki. Thanks! Sorry for raising your post count EDIT: There! Took the opportunity to make a few edits to some of my own bios while I was at it. I'm still not completely happy with the T&E one. It keeps changing subjects, one sentence about them, the next about the game, and too much info on the game compared to the characters. I'll need to fix it up someday. The X (full armor) one looks much better now though. EDIT2: About Kraid, I noticed the info in the "pictured from" field was updated and therefore correct. Still, the article was wrong and has now been fixed.
