  1. I like your vaguely eastern orchestral and cinematic sounding take on the Zangief theme. Reminds me of some of my favorite Wuxia film's scores. The drumline gives it some energy and it's very upbeat once it gets going, but the breadth of dynamics and tempo changes make me hesitate to punch someone in the face. I start listening and it gets fast and I'm like "Yeah! Here I go!" and I ball up a fist but then then you have the cymbal crash comes in and the tempo retards and you have a lilting string rendition of the melody and I'm like "Aw... I don't wanna punch someone now!" I love what you're trying to do, seriously. I'm listening to this WIP again because I enjoy it, but it doesn't meet the tone mood and genre requirements the project has for a stage music remix. Is there any way I could pursuade you to remix a non-stage song from the OST in this style? It's really captivating. (also, all of your samples are too dry, especially the strings. Reverb please.)
  2. This is bordering on violating the guidelines. It's a cool concept, very nice laid-back R&B but I can't work out to it. If I listened to this to get in the mood to punch somebody in the face, I might give up and go make a sandwhich. The beat needs more street. More street in the beat! I beat my meat! I eat my feet! But really, it's got to be harder, more upbeat and energetic. Think of a tough guy with a boombox walking past you while you stand on teh street corner. You fear and respect this man because he is a great fighter, wealthy though unemployed and a snazzy dresser; could this man be listening to this WIP? I don't know. Make me say yes with your next revision. Remember, the genre and mood guidelines are stricter for stage music. Also, the original melody of the source tune is scarecly present. It's reiterated in truncated form in the intro and then lost; all we get is the chord structure. I hope you plan on adding it back in because it needs to be there. Sorry to be so critical but I have a vision and this WIP doesn't fulfil it. Also, I'm a jackass. NO(resubmit). Our AIM conversation says it best: Red Tailed Fox: YES! Hahuahua... Let's see, things I could do to make this more bad ass: 1 - Make it a little bit faster. 2 - Changing the beat to a more energic one. 3 - Adding decent melody (it's there, Im telling you, is just the chosen synth that doesn't show it... What more? Mr Shael Riley: Just keep changing it until it makes you want to punch somebody in the face.
  3. Myth has a god example of what I'm looking for in a hip-hop remix going into the project. The beat is something you could work out to, or play the game to; the bass is sort of bone gnarly smooth--I don't know what that means but I said it--and the original source tune is very easy to pick out but also very obviously arranged in a unique and creative way. Rats off to ya!
  4. Simple. If I feel a track is not of adequate quality or is of adequate quality but does not meet the mood/tone/genre requirements outlined in my initial post, I won't include it. If you want to make very short WIPs--so long as they're completed enough to give us a general feel for the song; twenty seconds or so should be enough--I'll be happy to give you my thoughts as to their appropriateness in regards to the project, and I'm sure other people who read this thread will as well.
  5. I'm going to leave this thread up for at least a week before I post a due date for WIPs, and then you'll have at least two weeks to work on them.
  6. You're more than welcome to cover both tracks, however I want to have all of the stage music play in succession on the album with the ending music playing in succession after that, so we might have to cut it into two seperate mp3s that don't play in sequence, eliminating the smooth transition from stage theme to ending you may be envisioning.
  7. WOW! Very nice. Clean up the lead a little and take of those clipping problems and this will be tight! We'll all be voting--as long as there's enough remixing manpower to continue--on who gets what tracks based on WIPs so I can't promise you this track off the bat but you have a very strong WIP to put you in the running, assuming you even get any competition.
  8. http://sf2.ocremix.org/ Thank you, everyone, for your contributions.
  9. I'm trying to beat my record of reviewing 34 WIPs tommorow, and a few more well-crafted "Shael for OCR Judge" sigs might give me the edge I need.
  10. Thank you! It is sleek and edgey, like Adult Swim bumper!
  11. I need dozens upon dozens of Shael Riley for OCR Judge sigs, STAT!
  12. Starla, or Injury, as she's sometimes known, is a lady-type remixer.
  13. I'm going to dispell this myth once and for all. I was stone cold sober, straight and high on nothing but life when I made Music of My Groin. Now I've heard a lot of people really like to listen to it high. To that I say "Cool! Glad you enjoy it." But I'm actually really badly allergic to marijuanna and just generally am not interested in drugs harder than Midori Melon liquour, which Virt, AE, Ailsean, Dale North, Flik and myself all agree is a deviously smooth drink when mixed with Sprite.
  14. Power-packed with uplifting emotion, this is an example of why McVaffe is the man I miss the most out of all of the artists who've moved on from the community. Monkey Machine, another ReMixer from days gone by, said it all: the lo-fi and piano hit the heartstrings. This is one of those cases in which I think a mix is so good it could replace the original in a remake. Thanks, 'Vaffe, wherever you are.
  15. Really this is the epitome of the scene right here. I don't think we're ever gonna top this.
  16. I love this. The driving, hard trance beat reminds me of that Daft Punk song Harder, Faster, Better Stronger or whatever it is. I just call it "Work It," but anyway, I love this. I've been waiting for a solid, beat-driven remix of this tune FOREVER and Palpable does not dissapoint. Thank you.
  17. You must be thinking of a different mix. I did this in one take and there were no OCR forums--let alone a WIP forum--when I submitted this back in like 1998. Or 1999. I don't remember. Anyway, you're probobly thinking of The Rabbit Joint's Zelda song.
  18. Thank you very much, Mr. Lee. That's some serious high praise. I've been doing some stuff on an old computer and I'm going to reformat my other, better computer and look at my soundcard physically tommorow to see if I can't get back to mixing on the machine I did all those songs on, except Music of My Groin. That was done in like, Goldwave on a 486 `
  19. I just DLed this track again after reformatting my hard drive and I have to say that even after three plus years of age, this is still one of the best arrangements on the site. Thank you, McVaffe.
  20. Dear Lord! Really? Do you realize how incredibly lucky you are? You're probably one of the few men in the world who is dating an attractive woman who LIKES stuff like that, and not just to please her boyfriend. May I ask you to point me in the direction of said women? ... Okie dokie! http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=15885&papass=&sort=2&thecat=500 There she is with Alisean and Mustin.
