PS1 20th anniversary album [CANCELLED :(]
Jorito replied to Ivan Hakštok's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
I asked Hakstock about this on Discord; he said he has hardly had any free time for quite a while, hence the lack of progress and updates. He wasn't clear what would happen with the album -
If this is about the library going missing from the Kontakt library tab if you start a new instance of Kontakt, I had the same with Shreddage 2. The solution at http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=176&t=465223 (first page, last post) worked for me. Some nasty mess due to Service Center updates iirc.

Final Fantasy III: Resurrection - Wrapping Up (Sign Consent Form!)
Jorito replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Projects
Fear not! Made some good progress with my track today and will work on it some more this week to get it nearer to completion (maybe even finish it if I'm lucky). What's the requirement for the final wav, should it be mastered or unmastered? -

Thanks KingTiger! Unfortunately I can't add you to the opening post that lists the musicians/skills on offer (it's not my post) but I'll point people to you in case they need help -

That'd be a shame... but maybe we can take this opportunity to try and collab on this orchestra/cinematic thing you commented on once? I like the source track you picked. I'm also a bit backlogged atm but expect to have more time after July. Hit me up if interested, and if not maybe just wait till the July deadline before you drop your claim? -

And as for other project updates, HeavenWraith just sent in the final mastered version of his track! This also brings me to the following: if you have finished your track for the album or are about to finish it, please sign the OCR consent form so we can include it in the album. The consent form can be found here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dFNlTmlYYUJtUVNNd2hpSWxXa19Ra0E6MQ -
Speeding Towards Adventures: 25 Years of Sonic the Hedgehog - History
Jorito replied to Black_Doom's topic in Projects
Just to let you guys know that Black_Doom will have limited internet access in the period ahead and won't be as active in this topic for a while. So I guess you'll have to make do with me in the meanwhile So in your conversations about the album (e.g. you have a WIP or track to share), be sure to include both me and Black_Doom in your pm, so we can keep the ball rolling. Thanks! -
What's your approach for doing VGM arrangement ?
Jorito replied to hleet_tahiti's topic in Music Composition & Production
I start with my brain and pen and paper mostly. That doesn't mean I start writing score from the get go, it means that I listen to the source track a few times, let that inspire me to get some ideas on what kind of style, genre, mood I want to achieve and I write those down on paper. In the next day or 2, I think about it some more and write some more stuff down. What I write down can be pretty broad, here's some stuff from a track I worked on a week ago: "vocal track. start slow with piano and vox. add strings. first part should be calm and reflective in minor key, second half should be more optimistic, higher speed in major key. use traditional verse-chorus structure. use accordeon in second half. add violin solo somewhere.". So basically it gives me a blueprint of ideas on what I want to do with the track, and in combination with the source material I can steal the melody from that and incorporate that into my blueprint. With that input I start the arrangement, usually in 1 or 2 iterations to get all the concepts and ideas down. Instruments in this phase are pretty rough usually, mostly ballpark of the kind of sounds I have in mind. Tweaking and polishing things a bit is next, that can be things like adding harmonies, fixing timings, choosing better instruments and humanising the performance. Last step for me is mixing and overall production. This is typically where my skills aren't as good and thus it takes the most time and self doubt As for your second question: I typically have a few tracks in progress most of the times (atm I count 8, yikes!). A good reason for that is that I like to collaborate with other people to get some live performances in, and that usually involves a lot of waiting for people to find time to record. I typically fill up that time with working on other/new tracks. -

Nnnnnnnecrobump! Wondering if this album is still a thing, considering the approximate deadline of Q2 2016 is nearing -
Final Fantasy III: Resurrection - Wrapping Up (Sign Consent Form!)
Jorito replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Projects
I don't wanna be cut from the album, especially since I think the WIP is pretty advanced. Just had a hard time finding (making) time due to some other obligations. I'll bump it up on the priority list and expect a checkin with progress in a week or 2. Dat gud? -
As title said, I'm looking for a vocalist (f/m), preferably with rap skills to collab on a Legend of Legaia track on lyrics and vocals. It's a reggae style version of Rim Elm, essentially a revised version of this one that would benefit immensely from lyrics to make it more interesting. As I don't know enough about Legend of Legaia to write good lyrics, it's best if you know the game

Unofficial answers, but answers nonetheless: Because it's an approved project now, I'd expect the regular OCR guidelines need to be followed (e.g. at least half of the tracks should be OCR postable). With regards to original material the guideline to use is that at least 50% of the track length should be recognisable as source (so that leaves about 49% for original stuff if you really push it to the limits :P) I expect it to be okay. I regularly sneak in references to other tracks from the game OST (working on 2 Final Fantasy tracks that have strong references to the prelude), but keep in mind that the main source should be prominent. As to just having 30 seconds of source, that's usually enough to work with. My last posted remix was a mix of 2 short sources (this one and this one), just means you can get really creative with the arrangement and structure

I'd hope not, it'd be a waste of the 1.5 tracks I made for this

Added my WIP to the project forum. Pretty happy with it, but I find myself in need of somebody who is willing to lay down some relaxed acoustic guitar strumming for me in 3/4. Any takers? -
Yeah, I'd also expect to deliver a single wav file with enough headroom. Would be good to clear that up

Jorito replied to Black_Doom's topic in Projects
Yes! Me and Black_Doom have been discussing this topic and we definitely want to get the album released this year, preferably with all the claimed tracks. We have 2 check-in deadlines and a final final final deadline that we have to meet if we are to release this year. Here they are: July 31st - first check-in deadline September 18th - second check-in deadline October 30th - final deadline, finished track ready Expect to be reminded by me or BD around these deadlines, and make sure to let us know of progress and/or issues Here's the first reminder: @GaMeBoX @evktalo @zykO @Audiocolor @Chernabogue @WillRock @DusK @wildfire @Lucasonic @Tuberz McGee @generaloffensive @Bowlerhat @jnWake, your first update is due July 31st. If you can send your updates to both me and Black_Doom that'd be much appreciated -
I might go for an ambient track later this year. Gotta finish of a few other (album and non-album) tracks first though. Unless you're cool with me claiming Crysta right now and not doing anything about it in the next 2-3 months

Jorito replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Projects
An audition for me meant me sending links of my best work to the album director and get their feedback and approval to tackle an album song. So typically you do the audition first and don't start working on a track already. By the looks of it all tracks for the album are already claimed (I see no empty slots in the first post), but there seems to be an option to discuss unclaimed track. Either way, contact the album director(s) About n00bness... I'm not aware of any guides but I was a n00b 2 years ago too and usually people are friendly enough to help out if you ask nicely -

There should be an album proposal in the appropriate inbox somewhere with all the details, but the plan wasn't to release the full album on June 23rd since there's quite a few tracks in progress that we'd like to see completed. We had some ideas for a teaser to announce the upcoming album tho I'll check things with Black_Doom to make sure, the project isn't dead but we just need to pick a new date for it (we already brainstormed some ideas). -

Made decent progress with my WIP today (3 minute-ish), but it's pretty rough and I'd like to sit on it a few days more to polish it up a bit. I'll post it in the forums next weekend. -
Got some excellent feedback from @timaeus222 and @Gario on my track; thanks guys, much appreciated!

Please send it over to the mock panel so I can incorporate their feedback in the final version
