  1. Part of the reason this didn't get the promotion when it released was because Dave was at PAX, but also because there was already a schedule of rmixes to be posted before we rolled out FF5 Wind, which was really long overdue. We'll try to promote this a little more after the FF5 stuff dies down.
  2. Hi guys. I'm looking for artists (non-musical) for the Grand Robot Master Remix Battle album. http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31160 Specifically, I'm looking for some really good hand-drawn album art. Not interested in Photoshop-only affairs here. Specifically I'd like to see something with all the Robot Masters featured in some kind of big group shot. The prominence of Robot Masters in this shot should be based on how far they got in the competition. Tornado Man - The winner, so most prominent Ground Man - The Runner Up, slightly smaller Eliminated in Round 3: Metal Man Flash Man Eliminated in Round 2: Galaxy Man Cold Man Plant Man Bubble Man Eliminated in Round 1: Time Man Slash Man Stone Man Magnet Man Wood Man Heat Man Cut Man Magma Man Some extra pictures of one-on-one battles would be nice too. Please post examples of your work. I'm looking for really good classic-style Mega Man art here.
  3. Heh. Well the music is all technically "done." We just need to finalize the tracklist and do the proper revisions and tweaks to the tracks.
  4. I'm glad you guys like FF5, but please keep in mind that this is an album review thread, not a game discussion thread.
  5. Gentlemen, here is information about the plans for the album compilation for this competition's music. http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31160
  6. EDIT: Killing this due to lack of interest/response. This thread is for the organization of the album release of tracks from this year's Grand Robot Master Remix Battle. The album tracklist will be built as follows: - Any track that won a round in the main bracket will be on the album - Every one of the 16 participating remixers will be allowed to have at least one track of his choosing on the album (so even if you didn't win any rounds in the main bracket, I still want you on the album). - I'll also be picking my own personal favorites from both brackets if they're haven't already been chosen. For the album release, I'd like to give artists the chance to make any small revisions and tweaks they'd like to make. Competition tracks were generally given only one week for completion, but since this is an album release, I'd like for artists to be able to make their stuff is the best it can be. For remixers choosing non-winning tracks, your tweaks and revisions need to bring the track up to a baseline level of quality. In addition to the album release, I'd also like to include ALL of the original, unrevised, unedited competition tracks as a part of the BitTorrent distribution; this includes the Champion and Revenge brackets. Here's a list of the main bracket tracks that are confirmed to be on the tracklist. Artist Veto Fixes requested by DarkeSword Fixes planned by Artist Track OK Remixers, please let me know what additional tracks you'd like on the album. Once we finalize that, I'll go through all original competition tracks and pick my faves. Please also let me know if you want to make revisions for any tracks already listed, or if you feel the track is "OK."Mixer requested tracks:
  7. Waiting for all of them to come out before listening defeats the entire purpose of releasing them as separate volumes. Please listen to it right away.
  8. I realize you're trying to tell a story here, and this piece has a lot of nice development, but I have a two big issues: - Your samples sound very mechanical and fake. It's forgivable during the dance sections because I don't expect things to sound real there, but you take the arrangement into purely acoustic/orchestra sections and the samples and sequencing become very exposed, especially the acoustic guitar and oboe. - I'm not a fan of the extended original sections here; you have nearly a full minute where you've said yourself it's completely original. A couple of bars here and there is fine, but long transitional sections like this should reference the source music. I think this is a pretty good arrangement overall, but the extended original section is a bit much. I like the movement from dance to orchestral and then blending them together, but I feel like your samples are lacking. The arrangement could use some tightening up, and the production also needs and upgrade. NO, resub
  9. I do love me some Game Over. I can hear how the layered syncopation could be tricky to follow, but fortunately the production here is top notch, so the two guitars don't get needlessly mashed together. Plus things lock together when the chorus hits, which helps the listener re-orient. Great performances, fantastic vocals. Very nice. YES
  10. Wow, very nice. Definitely captured that live-feel; still very intimate. Structure follows the source closely, but lots of nice piano playing, and the percussion really has a lot of great things going on; really feels organic. Great addition of hand percussion; subtle and effective. Great percussion breakdown at 2:14, very hot. This is short and sweet, and definitely makes a point. I like this a lot. Not a fan of the fadeout; I could see this building to a tight conclusion. Still, not terrible. Very nice track. YES
  11. I like it, it's got a calm, subdued feel, and yet it still manages to be dancey. I like the subtle wobbling synths contrasting with the bell-like synths. Very nice. Great arrangement; fairly straightforward, but still some nice rhythmic ideas at play. YES
  12. I'm in agreement. I actually like the approach but I think some of your instrument choices could have been better. I like the percussion sounds but some of the synths seem really vanilla, especially that lead. Something like this, the sounds need to morph more, otherwise they end up sounding static. Not a fan of direct sampling the FF8 vocals either, especially when they haven't been processed and manipulated enough. There's a little bit there in the tail end, but most of it still sounds lifted out of the original. I think with something like this, the sound needs to be bigger. Try playing with some stereo separation to give it some space. This reminds me a lot of something Mazedude might make, so you're on the right track, but I still think it needs a little push in terms of sound design. NO, resub
  13. Babies are creepy as hell. :\ Nice to hear the source tune actually brought to the forefront this time around. Fairly conservative, but a nice soundscape, so it's not bad at all. Cool percussion too. Guitar solo is nice but it could have referenced the source a little the same way the chip solo does so when it comes in. Not bad. Guitar kind of does it's own thing for a while though. YES (borderline)
  14. Preview it: http://www.youtube.com/embed/748Fxf-gB2U Download it: http://ff5.ocremix.org Torrent: http://bt.ocremix.org/torrents/Final_Fantasy_V_-_The_Fabled_Warriors_~I.WIND~.torrent The Fabled Warriors is a series of five albums that celebrates Nobuo Uematsu’s classic score for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy V. Each album is comprised of themes for important characters in the series as well as the myriad of job classes that made the game famous. I have always felt that Final Fantasy V’s soundtrack has a bit of lightness to it that other Final Fantasy soundtracks eschew in favor of darker, moodier themes. This game always struck me as more of an adventure than any of the others in the series, and Uematsu’s score grabs that and runs with it. This is nowhere more evident than in “Ahead on Our Way,” Final Fantasy V’s main theme, and in my opinion, the best main theme for any Final Fantasy game. The Fabled Warriors will be released in five parts over the course of the next 2-3 years. The first four albums will follow the four crystals in the game, with themes arranged for all of the corresponding jobs, and the last album will cover new jobs introduced in the Game Boy Advance release, as well as serve as an endcap to the project. I hope everyone enjoys this tribute to Nobuo Uematsu’s wonderful score. We hope to make each album better than the last. -- Shariq “DarkeSword” Ansari
  15. No, seriously. Knock it off.
  16. Super Mario Bros. 3 - Bloopers in the Deep [3.19MB] This is a remix of the underwater theme from Super Mario Bros. 3. Enjoy.
  17. Moved to Community. Nice job everyone.
  18. http://dcu.blog.dccomics.com/2010/09/02/welcome-to-superman-earth-one/ This October DC is launching a brand new line of original graphic novels based on existing properties. They will take place in their own continuity (called Earth One), removed from the mainline monthly DCU (New Earth). If you've ever been interested in getting into DC's superhero comics, this is a good way to jump in. Check out the link; there's some preview pages.
  19. I believe it's just Fruity Reverb.
  20. Not bad, not bad at all. There's some very smart writing here, some great development and direction. Production I'm not so sure about. The entire thing sounds like it's in a small room with some reverb applied. Timpani rolls also sound mechanical. The percussion-heavy section also sounds like it has a drumkit's kick drum in there; sounds out of place initially, especially in a straight orchestral piece like this. I'm gonna go ahead and say YES (borderline). Not sure if other judges will have the same issues I do. Nice piece.
  21. I love the contrast between clean piano and rhodes with that soft, glitchy percussion. Source is prevalent enough to keep this in the realm of ReMix. The interplay between rhodes and percussion is really nice; things really lock together, despite being fairly complex rhythmically. YES!
  22. ???????????????
  23. The Workshop forum is for posting your own arrangements and compositions. Don't post soundtrack rips on OCR, regardless of what you've done to the audio. We don't condone piracy in any form.

  24. Um, you're not plugging in your composite video along with your S-video, right? Because if you're using S-video, leave the yellow cable unplugged.
  25. I'm not sure about the source usage here. It sounds a lot like the original mapped to some interesting sounds and put over a drumloop. I realize that the approach here is more of a sound-design approach, but I feel like there's not much originality in the arrangement besides the original with some sustained strings and choir. I dunno, maybe I'm in the minority here, but I'm not feelin' it. Needs more interpretation. The strings also sound very dry and fake. NO
