  1. Anyway I really like the first half the mix; aweomse groove with great sounds. The bassline, arpeggios, and percussion meld together really well. I love that deep bass sound. Really clean. The transition is pretty trippy stuff; those wild SFX around starting around 1:45 are sweet. The slow degeneration of the music into the SFX is handled really well. Second half of the song has some really nice pads. All that swirly stuff gets grounded with the groovy percussion and bassline. Positively headbobbin'. I have no idea what that voceded voice is saying, but I'm inclined to agree regardless. YES
  2. Production is really good I liked the melodic percussion in this piece; you do a good job of utilizing it without making it sound plinky. Other sounds are a bit bland though, particularly the koto mixed with the gated synth lead. My main issue is the percussion; throughout the entire piece it sounds like the song is building up towards something, but never gets there. The percussion is always in this waiting-to-break-out state. The song is also pretty repetitive, but I think there's some variation that saves it from being terribly monotonous (not literally monotonous ; you know what I mean). Anyway, not a bad piece, but I think it could use more in the sound choices and the overall arrangement. NO (borderline)
  3. Can you at least attempt to say something? Not really a fair vote if you don't elaborate at least a little.
  4. Make sure VGDJ mentions Penny Arcade's Child's Play Charity in the next show. http://www.childsplaycharity.org/
  5. We've been gearing up for the vB switchover in recent weeks (did some testing last week). There's going to be a forum restructuring going on. Dafydd, it would be a good idea for you to get on IRC so that we can discuss the details of the mascot forum with DJP.
  6. Yeah the title theme from Metroid Prime is probably one of my favorite melodies in the whole game. Awesome choice there. I don't like what you did with it though. The lead's constant retriggering along with the electric piano's syncopated line, gets annoying fast. There's just not enough material here to warrant the length, so the song gets filled up with pretty much the same thing over and over again. The sounds are also pretty thin, though they do fit together nicely, in that mid-90s MS-DOS shareware kind of way. Needs more I think. NO
  7. Man, the Chaos Temple theme is so awesome. I wish I had written it before Uematsu did. Wouldn't that have been totally awesome? ... But then nobody would remix it. Anyway, onto the mix: Nice! You successfully took the Chaos Temple theme and put it in a major key. I've always found that harder to do than the vice versa (probably cause I suxxx), but this was really effective. I like how you kept the B section though, since that was already in a major section of the original. Guitars are clean and the song changes up and progresses nicely throughout. I really like this. YES!
  8. Truer words have not been spoken. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but this piece really just made me want to just shut off my speakers. The guitar, bells, steel drums, and sloppy percussion sounded like they were all being played by a very angry group of incredible hulks. You know, "Hulk Smash?" Like that. The timing and balance of everything is really bad. It's so chaotic and unorganized. NO
  9. Hey nice choice of original. I'll have to check out the rest of this soundtrack. Not a bad texture, but I think that primarliy arises from the source material itself; I'm not really hearing a lot of interpretation going on here, other than some new percussion and some instrument swaps. Like TO mentioned, the whole things sort of blends together; it'd be better if we could get a crisper sound. Also, this really need some more interpretation; you've got to bring new ideas to the mix. Don't just upgrade, rearrange and reimagine. NO PS: reverse stuff at the end is gorgeous. i <3
  10. Not much in the way of interpretation and/or arrangement going on here. The original song's arpeggios in the guitar are actually a bit more rhythmically complex, yet have the same acoustic sound. The rain is nice, but it ultimately comes off as gimmicky. Larry, that 'cheap-sounding vox' at 2:42 is an actual group of females singing; it's ripped straight from the original song. I swear, you've listened to so much synthetic stuff you've forgotten what real stuff sounds like! In any case, I don't really see anything new or exciting brought to the table here. It's a nice atmosphere piece, but it's not very interpretive at all, and the simplification of the original isn't effective either. I'd rather just listen to the original with rain sfx on top. Make it your own. NO
  11. Wow too much reverb with not enough texture. This whole mix sounds hollow and sparse. Sequencing comes across as mechanical throughout, especially the super fake piano secion. You really need to work on the humanization in this piece. The arrangement ideas aren't bad, but you need to fill out the texture a lot more. The percussion seems like it's clipping too. NO
  12. We need some commersial, and quick. Someone post in a thread or something else. No. Don't spam in other threads for this kind of thing. If you need to advertise, do so in your signatures.
  13. Not a crime, just irrelevant. The thread is not about the game, but about the project. You want a thread about the game, make a thread in GD.
  14. Gonna go with the NO on this one, however borderline that vote may be. Let's get this out of the way; the vocals are awesome. The fake guitars, however, are not. Add to that the fact that the arrangement is nearly zero (pretty much follows the original song verbatim), and this doesn't really interpret all that much. It's too bad too; the part with the nice lyrics performed awesomely would have been welcome on OCR. Problem is that for OCR, you really need to interpret a lot more. NO
  15. Because on the off chance that the project is not released 'this year,' people will get pissed off at you.
  16. Uh, I'm pretty sure that's a real piano, Larry. ... Anyway, I think that the arrangement/performance is just fine. Very expressive, and nice use of dynamics. I love the main theme in major thing you have going on. My primary issue with this song is the volume spikes and the clipping that occurs. If you can re-record this with some normalization and no clipping, I think that'd be passable. NO for now.
  17. WHOA really bad balance between instruments around :47. Guitar sounds really fake, and the whole thing gets a bit loud. Got agree with Larry and TO; the mix sounds dry and sparse, and there's not much reinterpretation going on here. The sounds are really basic and don't work together to great a good texture. They're all separate and stick out. I would recommend going back to the drawing board and try to come up with a really clever way of combining the tracks, use some better, more interesting sounds, and try to fill up the soundscape a bit more. NO
  18. I'm going to be a lazy ass and piggy back on Larry's vote, because he basically said everything I was going to say. While the arrangement is nice, it's sparse, and it suffers from sounding empty at points. 2:16 in particular could use some more support. Timpani rings out like crazy, but nothing else comes close to matching it in power; you need balance. Nice ideas. Go for the win, and retool/rework/revitilize/reenvision/resubmit. NO
  19. Too much delay, too much unison, too much rhythmic simplification of the source material, too much repetition, and far too long. The percussion never really sits well with the rest of the instruments. It always sounds like a separate entity. Nothing else really locks together well at all. I don't think I would ever want to dance to this music. The percussion makes too much of an effort to constantly change; there's never any solid dance groove. As a result, the whole song sounds like a buildup to a climax that never arrives. Grossly unfulfilling. NO
  20. Ponderous. I like it. It's hard to do something like this, which is such a slowly evolving piece, effectively, but you've managed to pull it off. I love how this piece moves from one idea to the next seamlessly. The crescendo to the Deku Tree theme at 4:51 is perfect; a powerful statement with lots of emotion behind it. Nice job man. YES!
  21. I'll agree that it's not Mazedude's best, but it's rather well done. Nice, clonky industrial that sounds pretty clean. The problem though is that like Vig says, it's dynamically flat for the duration of the song. Once the drums come in, that's pretty much it. There's some nice sound design (lead is cool), but I think from an arrangement standpoint, it's gets old fast, which isn't good considering the piece is only 4 minutes long. I'd like to see a resub with some more variation in dynamics. NO
  22. KFC has had his Site Project forum moderation powers revoked due to behavior issues. However, this does not mean that KFC is no longer one of the coordinators of this project. He started this project and has done a great deal of work to see it to completion. SnappleMan and KFC are still CO-coordinators. Carry on.
