  1. I think it sounds really clean. I can hear what Kris is saying about the dissonance but there's nothing egregious; I'd just chalk it up to some interesting harmonic choices. They keep me guessing but never make me cringe. This is one of those pieces that makes you sit up and pay attention. Really like everything going on here. Sounds like everything came together really well. Very creative. YES
  2. This isn't Jazz Jackrabbit 2, this is from the first Jazz Jackrabbit game. Played this a lot as a kid. Inclined to say NO here. Guitar playing is competent but this feels like a straight up cover of the original with some good guitar noodling. The bell synth REALLY isn't working at all for the syncopated accompaniment. The guitar is just playing over a bed of sonic mush. Things get worse when the string stabs come in. You gotta take this back to the drawing board. Guitar sounds fine, but everything else needs a lot of work. NO
  3. Holy hiss, Batman. What's going on with the recording here? That hiss is insane. Arrangement is gorgeous; was not expecting the rock development in the back half, but it sounded great. Lots of emotion, great performance. Can we get a version of this that's de-hissed? YES?
  4. Man I have to disagree. I am really not feeling this at all. I feel like the instruments are all vying for attention. Everything is so in-your-face and they all have this very exposed, fakey quality. I also feel that with a track that's under 3 minutes, you recycled one of the more creative ideas nearly verbatim in the second half (the slowed down section). Even then, the slowed down section sounds disjointed in a way that doesn't feel intentional. Maybe I'm assuming too much, but I'm gonna have to say NO on this one.
  5. That electric piano feels so exposed at points; very mechanical. Would have loved a more organic performance. Have to say though, overall, I totally dig this groove. It's like a summer anthem for robots. I love when you've got these big swelling synths in there; you get that huge sound but it doesn't get overwhelming. Nice. Really cool arrangement. I like it. YES
  6. Yeah I agree with Kris. What's going on here? This sounds so hollow. I listen to a lot of 80s music (love "Danger Zone") and while you're hitting everything on the head in terms of style, the production and mixing in this is way off. I'm hearing light clipping here and there, and your vocals are getting lost in the mix. There's this really weird stereo separation on the drums. I want to say yes, but this really needs some TLC on the production side. NO, resub
  7. Killer retro sound. Love the texture and the part-writing is awesome. Very clean. YES
  8. Giving you guys a 10 minute lead this week because I might be busy at exactly 5PM. This week's theme is Cyber Maze Core from Mega Man X5.
  9. Need your team member's track. You already went this round.
  10. Therein lies the challenge. It's not always going to be easy. Focus in on other aspects of the piece.
  11. Tempo tags now have definitions in the master sheet linked in the first post. Here they are: tempo-fast - ReMixes that are generally >130 BPM. tempo-moderate - ReMixes that are generally between 130 and 90 BPM. tempo-slow - ReMixes that are generally <90 BPM. Use these definition as guidelines, but also go by feel and trust your ear. If something is 95 BPM but just FEELS SLOW, tempo-slow is probably fine.
  12. Hey guys, I removed the duration tags from the form. We're going to handle that programmatically. Don't worry about duration.
  13. live-recording is the entire piece of music having been recorded in one take, like a concert recording. live-instrument is used in something like a track where a live instrument is actually played and recorded. OCR00087 doesn't have live instruments. It's sequenced.
  14. I love the idea of click-bait headlines pertaining to SFRG. "This guy gave 13 remixers a week to make Mega Man X remixes. The results will BLOW YOU AWAY."
  15. Also, let's be clear. This wasn't a surprise to us. Brett from Capcom-Unity emailed us and let us know they were using the MM25 track in the announcement trailer months ago when they were first announcing this game.
  16. Could shift to a month.
  17. So here's an idea for a compo. This wouldn't be one of the big GRMRB or WCRG style tournament/gauntlet ones, just one of the cool weekly ones like PRC or MnP. Game Shift Remix (GSR) Rather that providing a specific song to remix, remixers are given a game and then asked to take a song from that game's soundtrack and write it to fit the soundtrack of a completely different game. So let's say you have something like, "Shift a track from Castlevania into a Tales of the Abyss." Remixers would be tasked with listening to the Tales of the Abyss soundtrack, familiarizing themselves with the overall musical aesthetic of the game, and then taking any track from Castlevania and trying to make it "fit" into the soundtrack. Obviously the game being shifted to would have to have a strong musical identity. Voters would judge based on how well they think the new track fits into the specified game. Thoughts? Interest? I'm busy with SFRG right now but I'd love for someone to take this up and try running it.
  18. Tables, please work on OCR00181 through OCR00220.
  19. New voting procedure starting this round! Voters, post your top three remixes in this thread as follows. Your name First place choice remix name Second place choice remix name Third place choice remix name Your Team Name (if you have one) Team name on the fifth line is new. If you don't have a team, don't include a fifth line. Copy your team name from the first post in the voting thread so that capitalization is consistent. I'm working on getting scores for round 2 and 3 into my tracking sheet. Once that's done, I'll publicize scores and keep the sheet updated week to week.
  20. The Sigma Fortress Remix Gauntlet (Main Competition Thread) Voting for round 4 is now open, and will end on Saturday, August 29, at 6PM EDT. Your name First place choice remix name Second place choice remix name Third place choice remix name Your Team Name (if you have one) Please use the forum's bulleted list feature, as shown above, and please do not "creatively misspell" remix names; copy the remix titles from the list above to avoid any mistakes. Do not include NUMBERS in your list, i.e. your first choice should be "Remix Title," not "1) Remix Title." Please copy your team name from the following list so that capitalization is consistent: Desert Catz Dopplergangers Faster than Light Maverick Astley Nightmare Tank Police Rock Hard Mandrills Sigma's Enigma Team Zero Treble THE SIGMA FORCE Vintage Reploid Squad Wily's Rejects X-Square Zero Tolerance This is really important, because it'll help me plug your votes into my tallying spreadsheet without a lot of hassle. Voting in the proper format will help expedite the tallies being done. Thank you! Things to keep in mind when voting: The most important thing to consider when voting is how well the remix incorporates and arranges both themes. Production and enjoyability should also be considered, but this is primarily an arrangement competition. The sources have been linked above for your reference. Everyone is allowed (and encouraged) to vote, including competitors. Competitors should not place their own team's remix in their rankings, regardless of whether they are the remixers for that round or not. However, by voting, they will earn a first place vote for their team's remix. If you are on a team, you must post what team you are on in your vote so I can make sure your team gets your voting bonus. If you do not specify your team, I cannot guarantee that your team will receive a voting bonus. You are required to make an actual decision for each choice, meaning, you cannot declare a draws or a ties for different places. This will be counted as not voting and your vote will not be counted. Do not post reviews in the voting thread. Compile your reviews for each round into a single post in the main competition thread. Post only once in each voting thread. Everyone must adhere to the Competitions Code of Conduct.
