Sir_NutS replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
Yes, yes and yes. and then yes. SF64 is one of those games I can positively affirm that they have been completely obliterated by me. I hope I can find some time to give this source a try. -

newb resource for orchestration tips?
Sir_NutS replied to sgx's topic in Music Composition & Production
yay, I was looking for something like this, because I, like SGX, like to implement orchestral instruments sometimes to add something different to my stuff but I find myself lost about where to pan/what plays what/etc. Thanks! -
everybody knows DJP uses a scanned signature he writes with the bones of banned users and blood of dead kittens as ink for all rejection e-mails

Also, not videogame related, I'm always trying to ctrl+f when I'm looking for something in a printed material. -
The real consequences of blurring video games and real life..
Sir_NutS replied to Steben's topic in General Discussion
when GTA 3 came out I was obsessed with it and played it for days uninterrupted. When I finally got out home I felt the urge to open all the cars that i saw parked in the streets. Luckily the feeling didn't last long, otherwise I would be writing this message from a less comfortable place. A friend of mine had a similar experience, in which (around the same time I was in the gta3 spree) I showed him the greatness of Quake 2 multiplayer. We played it every day religiously for hours, and he became totally addicted to it, playing it solo for hours and days even if we weren't playing multiplayer. One morning, he came to work (we worked together), and he told me he wouldn't play quake 2 ever again. He looked really tired, and I asked him why he wouldn't play anymore. He told me that last night he was trying to sleep but everytime he closed his eyes he saw some of the quake monsters running towards him, yelling the stuff they yelled in the game, which scared the shit out of him and he couldn't sleep at all because it happened everytime he closed his eyes as he was laying down in bed. Not surprisingly, we were back into quake 2 multiplayer a few days later in the same week. -

I'm going to put something up before the deadline. I'm not feeling this source too much(though I can recognice it's good quality). I'll see what I can come up with.

How essential is a MIDI keyboard?
Sir_NutS replied to DDRKirby(ISQ)'s topic in Music Composition & Production
I'm planning to buy one as well. I've never used a midi keyboard, and I can't play piano(or any instrument for that matter). But I've been slowly learning on a non-midi keyboard and I suppose it saves time when I'm trying to write a melody. -
Seeing people interested in making electro makes me really happy. I must say first that I enjoyed your song but I have some advice for you that can get your song to the next level. First and foremost, the voice/vocoding work is the best part of the mix. I totally love it, I'm a big vocoder fan and I love everything vocoding-related. I Think you did a really nice work, the most important thing about vocoded vocals in an electro song such as this is the groove and the pace the have, and I think you got it right. Very very nice. The thing I don't like about this song is the overall rawness. If you're an electro fan, then we both know that electro is meant to be simple but still, the lack of processing really brings down the song overall. If you listen to some Model 500, I-F, Dynamix or even Kraftwerk you will see that although the sounds are simple they have a lot of processing around them. Same with the drums, maybe you're tryng to infuse the song with a funk feel with the simple and unprocessed drums, which is in theory a good idea but I think the implementation here is lacking a bit. Also I think you need to try to unify your ideas a bit more, the first section has a whole different feel than the rest of the song, same with the section near the end. I don't mean that you should have a repetition-fest a-la daft punk but that you should try to make the whole song have the same mood. Then I also think your song lacks the "coldness" found in lectro songs, and I think it's mostly the lack of ambient effects around it. The Main synth is acting both as a lead and as the bass, I think you should separate it and bring a more funky/groovy bassline. But yeah, as I said I really like this and I think it has lots of potential. Just add more detail, play more with your synths and try to make them sound less default-y. I loved the work you did with the vocals, very varied and good processing overall, try to bring that to the whole song. I'll be looking forwards to more electro from you, it's a rarity around here and I'm a big fan of it.

This is the score I thought it would get, around 7~7.5, and I think that what Matt said in his review at ign was right, maybe this is a better game than adventure or adv 2, it's getting a lower score everywhere because people were dazzled by the (by the time) awesome 3d graphics that the dreamcast showed. He also Called it the best 3d sonic game ever created, but I'm gonna have to try that myself, I'm still a sonic adv. 1 fan.

Miroslav has one of the greatest string refills I've tested (though I haven't had too many great patches) but they're very expensive. great quality though.

Fruity Loops Music Competition 5: Mega Man 3 [Results]
Sir_NutS replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
I know that, I just don't need to smart disable anymore cuz i have a computer that can handle practically anything I throw at it. Thanks. I don't use the arpeggiator, well, didn't use it when I used fl. I got lazy for the most part while doing this song, and resorted to some of the lazy tools. The whole reeverb send thing is intentional, I've always used that setup in my songs. Yes I have reeverb inserts + reeverb sends too. It's not unusual for people to do that, it adds different colors to the reeverb of the sound. yeah I didn't notice the doubled note. for the Cutoff automation, that was intentional, just tried to add a bit of subtle differences, expression if you may, to the melody. Yeah I agree it lacked a bit oomph. And my fruityloops mastering isn't what used to be either(though as I said, i got lazy with the song) That's more of a matter of preference. Though I usually never touch the master volume, but for this song I had to because, as I said, I got lazy and didn't want to mess around much with the mastering. Frankly at that point I didn't want to mix the song anymore, everything was going well until I wanted to add the piano section and noticed that fl had shit for piano defaults. So I kinda got angry there and just threw both the pluck and the fl piano in heh. Missing waveforms? there were none that I know. I used the presets I had left from the bunch I made back in my fl days but I made sure I use sawwaves instead of the custom saw I used to use. If you say it because the color shows red, that's how I saved the presets. too many 3xosc presets = again, laziness. I had tons of presets that I made for everything, from synths to effects, back in my fruityloops days, but I lost them all and the few I have left are those I used there(like trancelead) and that I could have because I sent them to a friend some time ago. When I'm doing a song I rarely use presets, but I create my own. For Reason I have tons of presets made for malstrom, subtractor and every other machine, cuz reason presets are crap for the most part, and even released a refill with a collection of my own patches and loops a few days ago, so no, NutS and presets don't get along at all(unless they are presets made by me), I actually despise the use of presets and loops, so don't think I just go out browsing the reason soundbank and slapping presets for subtractor and maelstrom like a lot of people do . Everything you hear from me, is NutS-authentic. -
it was about time, I missed my favorite competition.
