  1. August 31 marks the 12th anniversary of the franchise, and as a little treat you can now download the first game from the official site: http://www.commandandconquer.com/intel/default.aspx?id=61#NewsMain
  2. You can stream it from here: http://www.commandandconquer.com/intel/default.aspx?id=58#NewsMain It has news on upcoming patches and other additions, coverage on community mods and events, interviews with the development team and community members, replays of favored online matches, and some other things. I don't think I've seen any other developer pull off something like this before.
  3. A horde perspective would have been the one thing to set it apart from the plethora of uninspired high fantasy crap that's been saturating the industry. Not looking forward to this.
  4. Everyone seems to be spinning either electro house or minimalist stuff these days. So if you want in on the cool crowd, that's what you'll want to play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cmKj-y8y5Q
  5. No genre classifications. It'd make it too easy for close-minded listeners to just stick to their little niches and leave everything else in the shadows.
  6. Getting good samples is half the battle. Programming them right is another thing.
  7. http://www.zshare.net/audio/2809474025fa5a/ I've had the bloody project file collecting dust since 2004. About time I started touching it up and actually getting it finished. It's probably going to need some new riffs to stay fresh. And more percussions. And more spaced out laser effects. This is what real Psy should sound like. No Infected Mushroom poser crud.
  8. You got a solid foundation. Just try varying the chords a bit. Maybe try some bass slides as well. Aside from that there's just production/sound quality issues but I'm guessing you didn't want to focus on that.
  9. It's no different from any other form of media. It just gets more attention at the moment because it's a relatively new industry and the older generations don't understand it.
  10. You can automate any VSTi knob. Either browse the parameters or tweak the knob, then go to last tweaked parameter > edit events.
  11. I would love to have the pattern/playlist system replaced by something more akin to Logic or Cubase, but I guess that would go against the integrity of the concept.
  12. Available at my newly created Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/gyamori They were made as experiments in getting into the Techno sound and way of sequencing. No, I have never actually made Techno before. I think this snippet from Wikipedia sums it up pretty well: Monofunk was based around a funk clip I sampled and cut up in the fruity slicer, changing the pitch and constructing my own riffs. The end result was a somewhat laid-back, housy sound. Guerilla was made using nothing but drum samples. The bongos and congas are about as tonal as you'll get in that track.
  13. I saw it today. And picked out a mechanized Willhelm Scream in the process.
  14. You load MIDIs and replace the instruments with default FL presets. Or, you venture into this thread: http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6716
  15. Balancing volume levels without having some things sound too faint can be a bitch. Usually you can get away with some milder clipping simply by adding a limiter on the master output.
  16. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VHGP70CM I was toying around with the idea a few months back about taking modules, mainly from PC and Amiga games, exporting each separate instruments, load them in a sequencer then mix them like you would any song into full-fledged productions. Midee did something similiar to SNES and Mega Drive music on the VGMix forums which inspired me. I tried doing 3 quick mixes today just to get the ball rolling. I was thinking of making a personal project spicing up some of my favourite PC soundtracks that usually get no attention at all. The tracks I selected were Crusader: No Regret, Isotoxin from Unreal and Moody Breeze from Jaguar XJ220 (Amiga). The original modules are embedded in the .zip for reference. Winamp can play all of them if you don't already have them associated. I will probably redo the Crusader one, made the mistake of exporting all the drums in 1 single channel which doesn't leave much choice for panning and EQing.
  17. I think there was some tool to convert .xm files to .spc, essentially meaning you'd have to use a tracker that supports the format. You'd also have to stick with the required specifications, ie very small samples and 8 channels.
  18. That's just a squarewave with lots of pitch modulation. What you really want is probably a theremin.
  19. I decided to try a different direction: http://www.zshare.net/audio/25942652a06a3b/ The source for the old version is still there though.
  20. djp's webcomic character is spinning in his grave.
  21. Take an empty pattern and place it a bar or two after the song's end on the playlist.
  22. http://www.zshare.net/audio/2549881564a2b1/ Jazzy harmonies and some crazy choir portamento solo.
  23. http://pc.ign.com/articles/800/800570p1.html http://www.gamespot.com/pages/gamespace/updates.php?pid=918428&sid=6173397&tag=topslot%3Btitle%3B1&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot&page=1 http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21125.html Some key things summed up: *The game is mainly first-person, but there are several viewpoints to choose from (Much improved from Oblivion). Can be tweaked to resemble the original top-down perspective *The game world is slightly smaller than Oblivion with less NPCs, but with much more varied and well-defined characters. *Stats, items and such are all intergrated into the PipBoy on your wrist for a more seamless and immersive feeling. *20 hit songs from the 40's have been licensed for use in a resurrected radio station with an actual DJ and news about ongoing events in the game. The radio can also be used to pick up isolated frequencies, leading to more quests and such. *The consequences of your actions will be much harsher, opening up new opportunities while closing others allowing for much more replayability, unlike Oblivion where you could join any factions regardless of what you've done. *The black humor will still be there, but with less breaking of the fourth wall (IE no blatant Monty Python or Hitchhiker encounters).
  24. Nothing wrong with Ishkur's guide. You just need to use common sense and do additional research on your own, like Wikipedia.
  25. I've got the time, but not the money. Malcos should go.
