  1. I'd definitely like to go, but I don't think I'll be able to afford to take another trip and miss another day of work in july.
  2. I did a lot of strength work yesterday, so I took it fairly easy today. Went in for a morning vault workout, then just hung out at the gym for the rest of the day, occasionally jumping up on rings to do a cross or a press or a few dips. EDIT: Also: A WEEK AND A HALF UNTIL WOODWARD! The week of July 4th, I and nine of the kids I coach will be going to a weeklong gymnastics camp in PA, so I'll probably be working out almost all day every day while I'm there. Should be awesome.
  3. Doug, I think this mix exemplifies your biggest strengths: your excellent choice of sounds, and your impressive ability to take mediocre samples and make them sound amazing.
  4. So it's looking like I'm going to take an overnight busride from Raleigh to Philly, which will get me there around 8:30 AM on Saturday.
  5. Well, wednesday this week was a great day for me, but I haven't done anything at all since then. The wrist braces I ordered a week and a half ago still haven't arrived, so that's been limiting me a bit. But it's mainly just laziness on my part.
  6. Forgive me if this is too dark, but if somebody were to get killed by a snapping piano string, that would actually be pretty fucking cool.
  7. Fuck lurkers. Citan Uzuki is, quite simply, the man.
  8. Oh, man, today was one hell of a day. Spent 3 hours working out this morning, a good chunk of it on rings strength -- and I was having a pretty good rings strength day. I was hitting my crosses relatively easily and cleanly, and straight-arm press handstands on rings were absolutely nothing to me today (only two months ago I could barely do them). I didn't keep track of numbers, but I know I spent more time in a cross during that workout than I usually do in an entire day in the gym. I also did a bunch of strength sets in a spotting belt (the set I used was back lever, pull to cruss, press to maltese, press to inverted cross, lower back to maltese, drop to back lever, repeat). After that, I got lunch, then went straight back into the gym and spent another hour or so on strength (broke my records for longest straight-body planche and longest straight-body front lever), did a set of crunches and a set of reverse crunches (45 of each -- I usually stop at 30), two sets of 10 muscle-ups, and some lunge jumps and calf raises. It was fucking great!
  9. Beautiful. And I'm definitely getting that Linkin Park vibe (and I, unlike Dave, AM a Linkin Park fan)
  10. Ah! I knew you were in NC, but I didn't realize you were in Raleigh.
  11. One thing I've been making a lot of progress on that I keep forgetting to mention here: flexibility. I've been working flexibility, with an emphasis on shoulders, and have made some definite improvements, resulting in swing skills on rings being much easier and less painful lately. Today I spent a bunch of time working giants and double layouts on rings. I still tend to bend my arms in my giants, and my double layouts are still a bit piked, but both are definitely looking better than they ever have in the past. I'm hoping that I'll be able to get the double layout solidly (and hopefully start twisting it) when I go to camp woodward in a couple weeks. I also did a little bit of work on corsses, malteses, and inverted crosses. My inverts are getting much more solid, but I'm definitely losing ground on the cross and the maltese. Hopefully once my wrist brace arrives I'll be able to spend more time on those. Over the next couple weeks, I'm going to start putting together full routines on rings and floor. (though odds are high I'll have to change them a bunch after the olympics, when the new rules are published -- they give the rules of the sport a complete overhaul every 4 years)
  12. No formal training, but I've been playing piano for about 10 years, irish whistle for about 8, and guitar for about 7. Can't read sheet music. EDIT: Holy shit, suzu, you play hammered dulcimer? And Mandolin? We may have to collab sometime.
  13. Aren't they great? THere are so many ways to make any excercize really hard without doing huge nubmers; I rarely do more than 20 of ANYTHING in a row on rings.
  14. Get a Carvin Cobalt. Probably the best bang-to-buck ratio of any acoustic guitar that I know of. I use a C350 and love it.
  15. Finally did some more hard core strength yesterday. Started with arms and shoulders and worked my way down. I didn't keep track of the exact numbers. Today I did a bit of core and leg strength, as well as a bunch of trampoline. Hopefully my wrist braces should be arriving in the mail in the next wee or so, and I should be able to get fully back into training.
  16. Oh, man, this is PERFECTLY timed, if I can organize transportation. I'm going to a gymnastics camp in State College, PA, starting June 29th. Is there anybody comming from down south that could give me a ride up? I may be able to catch a bus up into VA if somebody could drive me the rest of the way. EDIT: Actually, it appears a bus into Philly will only cost me about $50, so I should be able to swing that no problem. I'll need to know how to get from the bus stop to the meetup location, though.
  17. Finally got my wrist looked at. The good news: it's nothing too serious. Appears to be just some minor internal bruising. The bad news is that with continued training, I'm likely to continue reinjuring it. Either way, it's going to take months to fully heal. I might back off a bit for a little while and get a brace with a bit of padding to soften the impact, but I'm probably just going to say fuck it and deal with the pain and continue training.
  18. Tonally a bit bland, but pretty nonetheless. Nice work
  19. Yes. JillandAndy is one word now.
  20. Here's your problem: you didn't sample anything of mine. Actually, this is pretty cool. I like it.
  21. SUBMIT, FUCKER! As far as I can see, this meets all the requirements to be eligible. It's recognizable as the sourcetune, but has enough arrangement that we can hear and appreciate your contributions, and the production excellent. And you could make a strong argument for this as the most creative concept I've ever heard (only thing I can think of that might be able to compete with it is Shnab's remix of the Zelda door-open jingle) Were I a judge, I would give this a yes.
  22. Most of the instrument sets are good enough. I use collosus when I don't have a specific library dedicated to the instruments I'm looking for, and it almost always has something that will suffice. Some of the patches are absolutely excellent, some are merely passable, but on the whole I'd say it's worth the investment.
