Jack Thompson Threatened With Disbarment
Devyn replied to prophetik music's topic in General Discussion
OLD OLD OLD OLD OLD OLD. OLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLD! Also, noone cares about Jack Thompson, just like noone cares about "Games as art". OLD!!! Sorry about being a jerk, I'm just getting tired of it. -
I don't think it sucks. I think it's pretty cool. It's definitely not up to bar with the NES Mega Man 2, but it's enjoyable. Okay, I will admit that the last level was lacking, but that's mostly because there were supposed to be more levels than that.

New song? Well, it's cool. I've never heard the original, but I like it. I was worried Beefy wasn't going to be there, but then he came in. Thanks. I really like the new shirt too, but I hate Ebay. If I can't find another way to get the shirt, I'll have to join ebay again.

I don't think it's safe to assume things based off of the little information we have, but I don't see anything wrong with predictions. I think that making an 8-bit game in the year 2008 is the very definition of innovation. Also, I'm thinking that there will be tons of surprises. Judging by the flat rotation of Mega Man around that platform, I'm thinking there will be some 8-bit nostalgic humor thrown in much like in the Paper Mario games.

Just get some mellow reggae. You'll dream about the beach all night and you'll wake up feeling good. You think that was a bad reply? I was intending on quoting your post and putting a bunch of lol faces, but I decided to be nice. Try some reggae. Also, this is very soothing, but not in a sex-you-up type way. It the be the mellowest, happiest 3 minute piece of music I've ever heard. http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00468/

Woah. That's awesome enough to wake Bruce Lee from the grave. I hope they make a sequel every two months.

A call to all creative: The REAL Super Mario Bros
Devyn replied to Vormaen's topic in General Discussion
I want a 3rd person sequel to Super Mario Bros. 2 (aka Doki Doki Panic, yes I know). I think it would be cool to have some waggle controls. Pull up to pick up items and enemies, throw forward to launch them. A jumps, and the z trigger will automatically make the character home in and land on the nearest enemy to take care of the whole "3d is a bitch when trying to jump on enemies thing". I'd like branching stages, the ability to revisit stages and collect missed items, and really cool cutscenes. To add variety to gameplay, the slot machines would return as well as races on magic carpets on log races down rivers and waterfalls. And other stuff. Oh man. -
You know, Capcom did comment that Street Fighter 4 could technically be ported to Wii. Why don't they do that as well as put Mega Man on all 3? That would be great.

Fantasy Zone 2: Absolutely awful. It's really sad considering that the first has a lot of good music (the nes version sounded a little better)

I really miss playing my friend's Berserk game on the Dreamcast. He was my roommate in college, and he had Sword of Berserk, Sonic Adventure and SF3: Third Strike. Man, that was awesome. He didn't even know that there was a Berserk anime, and I was already a fan, and I saw that game, and I nearly shit my pants. Then I showed him the anime and he was like "Whoa, this is awesome".

All right. I'm not sure if these have been posted or not, but here's the link to some high res scans of the Nintendo Power article (scroll downwards after clicking) http://www.rockmanpm.com/ Well, there's a few things mentioned in the article that I'd like to comment on. First, Inafune has been putting his hands on the game. He mentioned that it's in the vein of the earlier Mega Man games (1 and 2 mostly). He also makes some comments about the 8-bit style and how we would like to "push the upper limits" of the 8 bit style. I'm thinking that there's going to be some modern technology thrown in here. I'm expecting some modern physics and graphical effects (I started thinking this from the picture with Mega Man revolving around a platform and another when he uses his weight to move platforms and jump to other ones. Apparently we're also going to get "modern" things like online leaderboards and downloadable content. If the game has good sales, Inafune will even make more sequels. Well, just to be safe, I might get a friend a copy as well. Capcom has sent the message that for the time being this is a WiiWare-only game. While I'm happy that Capcom is giving due respect to Mega Man's origins and Nintendo, I don't think this is the best choice. Sure, I'm really PO'd about Wii not getting Street Fighter 4 (for the time being), but the little guy deserves to be available on all consoles. I think everyone should be playing the new Mega Man, and there are also a lot of offline Wii users who won't be able to download the game. But, the really hard old school fans are going to buy a Wii just to get this game. Well, I have a Wii and I can't wait to download it. Yes, I want it very, very badly.

I already have a huge boner for Splash Woman. :<

Street Fighter 4, Bionic Commando, Mega Man 9, Adventure Island, and now Diablo. Damn. What's a fanboy to do?
-
Those games do have good stories. I was actually a little shocked with all the sexual overtones that Mega Man Legends/64 had. You remember that part where Mega Man (Volnutt) spies on Roll when she's changing? Wow, how did that get by in the American version?

What's this obsession with Mega Man Legends? They were decent games, but nothing great.

My first big rock concert was No Doubt with 311. It was pretty cool. Then there was Smashing Pumpkins with some people I can't remember, and then Stone Temple Pilots with Cheap Trick. Other concerts: 4 different 311 concerts 2 AFI concerts (1 of them before Davey Havok started looking like a woman) 2 warped tours (Thrice, Rancid, Vandals, Face to Face, Suicide Machines, a bunch of other punk bands) 1 Voodoo Fest (Sonic Youth, Green Day, Beastie Boys, the fuckin' Pixies) GWAR (Yes I saw Gwar and it was awesome) I know I'm forgetting a few but I did a bunch of bad stuff then so I can't remember everything.

Good point, and you've certainly been a more devout fan than me as of late, but I'm in the grey here. I don't think that the new Mega Man games suck, I just think that they could do so much more with it. That was my comparison to Sonic. There's still a lot of good Sonic games, but they don't blow me out of the water like Sonic 3. Wouldn't you like to see a large budget Mega Man game headed by Inafune himself? I think he deserves the 5 star treatment that Bionic Commando and Street Fighter 4 are getting. Sure, Mega Man games don't exactly require 300-person teams, but what if? We certainly have our differences. I'm more of an oldschool Mega Man fan and that's just how I am. Mega Man will never suck, but at the same time, I want Capcom to do what it takes to bring him to a wider audience. Either way, I think we can all agree that the sound of "Mega Man 9" is very awesome.

Inafune said that if he were to make a console Mega Man game, that it would most likely come out on Wii. I'm going to go ahead and jump on the fanboy wagon, so here goes. Wii fans are already getting crapped out of the next Resident Evil as well as Street Fighter 4. I think Capcom kinda owes the Nintendo fans. Assuming it exists, if Mega Man 9 isn't ported to the Wii, I will be an angry man. If it comes out on other consoles, then I'm totally cool with that because I love Mega Man and I would like to see him on top. If it comes out as a 360 or PS3 exclusive, I will throw a fit, drive to the store, and buy me that system just to play that game. I am not kidding. Street Fighter 4 already has me up to my knees in anticipation, but there's no debate over a true, original Mega Man game. To those who are fans of the recent iterations of Mega Man, I mean you no harm, but I have an extremely biased nostalgic obsession for the blue bomber, and I have been waiting for many years to see a conclusion or a renewal of his blueness. Mega Man has been going the way of Sonic lately. We've seen annoying new characters, we've seen the storyline branch out into totally silly territory, and we've seen some decent games that are sadly unamazing when compared to the inspiration of the early Mega Man and X games - much like Sonic's games. You're playing them because they feature your favorite character and they're still pretty fun, but you know that if Capcom gave Mega Man a budget and timeline half as big as a Resident Evil game, you would see a difference. The most important thing to me is that this game exists. Scratch that. The most important thing to me is (assuming the game is being made) that the game is awesome. I want to see something that uses the inspiration from the earlier games. I want some fan service. I'm not just talking about musical style (return to fast melodic rock and dance would be nice), I want the action to go back to the blasting and jumping. I want to see the powerslide. And I am damn fine with 3D. I see a few of you Legends fans on here, but I'm only partly with you. I want a Mega Man gameI think the Wii would be a great console for the next Mega Man, and simplifying the shooting process while adding .... nevermind, there's a thunderstorm going on. End fanboy rant.

Mega Man 2 was the best, and X 1-3 were great. X-4 was cool, but the stage designs started going downhill after the 3rd X game and the focus starting flowing away from blowing up stuff to collecting things. Personally I will always love the original Mega Man games the most. They were the most optimistic and the stage designs and game play were just awesome.

Gamers sue EA for "Anti-competitive practices"
Devyn replied to Jam Stunna's topic in General Discussion
The more EA and the NFL get screwed, the happier I will be. It was extremely weak of them to do the exclusive deal. In analogical form, I compare it to a champion boxer who is afraid he'll lose a fight so he orders a hitman to shoot the other guy and he doesn't have to fight him anymore. It was a cowardly practice. Also, EA sucks wookie balls for dinner. They suck in so many ways that I don't even have to tell you, because you already know. -
Instruments and musical approach: I play acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, and I do some singing. I'm more of an inventive player, and I love to improvise. I quit reading music and learned to "play by ear" at an early age. However, I am familiar the notes and scales I am playing, and I think music theory is very important. I also have a low, cigarette-inspired voice that is well-suited for blues, folk, country, and other 'earthy' musical styles. My philosophy is that music should be viewed as both a science and a religion. The techinical and spiritual sides of music should always be regarded highly when writing and performing music. I've played at shows (which I only do about 9 or 10 times a year now) when we had the worst sound ever and were half drunk, but the environment and energy were so great that the show just ended up being awesome. I also think that noone should be super-technical unless it works with the song.. If the song calls for technicality, it should be done, but technicality for its own sake usually sounds empty and lacks emotional "oomph". I believe in doing more with less. Current works: I've played with the same band off and on for more than ten years. I'm the one responsible for starting out the songs, and I also write songs for myself. Some are satirical, others are serious, and some are both. In terms of the band, the singer does most of the lyrics, but I sing my solo stuff and sometimes take the mic for a few songs (my singer is a much more versatile vocalist). My band has had an album in queue with our producer for almost two years, we just need to get a damn appointment so we can finish it (we've also released two records in the past). In the meantime, I've written a solo E.P. It contains six songs with two acoustic guitars, and one of the songs is an instrumental. I'm going to record it in three days with $300 dollars (at a much simpler studio), and I'll also be doing the artwork myself. It's a folk E.P. with blues, rock, punk, country, and classical influence. I have been practicing each song and arranging the songs so that they can still be performed respectfully with just one guitar. I plan on selling it cheap and I also want to take some of the proceeds and donate them to charity. I will sell them out of the trunk of my frikkin' car. Musical history: My Dad played guitar since before I was born. He was inspired by The Beatles, Van Halen, ZZ Top, Creedence, Hendrix, and the like. He said I wouldn't be able to play because I was left handed (although some of the best were left handed). I started practicing on his guitars when he was at work, and I found out that even a lefty can play right handed if he tries hard enough. I started as more of a punk and metal player, doing power chords and whiny solos in pentatonic scales, but I eventually started studying other styles of music and became a more eclectic guitarist. I also started learning video game songs that I liked, and at the time, I had no idea a site like OCR would come to be. Yeah, I think I'm rambling. So yeah, that's my musical background for you.
