  1. Trilogy and Ultimate Mortal Kombat used to be my favorites, until 5 came around. I think 5 would've been classic if the characters had more than 1 fatality a piece. Also, the coin system was pretty cool too.
  2. Say what you want, but Mortal Kombat 1 through 5 rocked. I enjoyed all of them (still own all of 'em too).
  3. I gotcha. It's something that I'm against yet it's so interesting that I have to check it out. I also think that the Mortal Kombat series has been a respectable one with few weak games, so I have trust in the team. They've lost dignity in my eyes, but they haven't lost my interest.
  4. Take two great things that don't fit: chocolate ice cream and beef jerky. Mix them together. That's what I think, but you bet your tail I'll be picking up a copy.
  5. That's so lame. And by lame, I mean not lame at all and totally cool and well done. I miss playing this game and I must say Square should release these games on VC so I can play them again.
  6. This is almost as fucking lame as putting Star Wars characters in Soul Calibur. I mean, it will be cool to the layman, but I'm a big Mortal Kombat fan and it's a bit insulting if you ask me. It's the equivalent of having your favorite band sell out. Oh well, when your favorite band puts out a CD you have to buy it right?
  7. No, but I remember renting it and getting my ass kicked all around. That was a tough game.
  8. Oh I thought that was an incorrect Konami code for a minute.
  9. Not big on the Konami code. It's usually just to show off how they know the code, but I don't use that code. I play all the way through without continues, so I don't think having to use the Konami code is anything to be bragging about. Plus, the code takes the fun and danger out. I will use it when playing with a less-experienced player, and I will use the sound test to unlock Super Sonic on Sonic 2 (I've never gotten all the emeralds on that game).
  10. "Double Dragon and Double Dragon II had awesome soundtracks as well." That ain't no lie.
  11. I'm neutral towards the Cheetahmen. I think it's another fad - Not a bad fad, but still a fad nevertheless. Yet, it kicks ass, and upon first listen it invoked a nostalgic feeling - and I've never played the game. The 'verse' is sinister and the 'chorus' is a bright and happy diversion that keeps the mix from getting repetitive. It makes me feel like I'm running around in the jungle on some imaginary vacation. Nice work. This is definitely going on my annual summer ocremix CD.
  12. When I saw the names 'Sixto and Zircon' on the right side of the page, I had to check this out. It brilliantly combines and showcases each of the mixers' exceptional talents. The guitars work so well with the synths and electronic beats. Also, the surf guitar part rocked my world. Probably the best flash man mix I've heard.
  13. Sonic Heroes had some cool level themes and background music, but the game play was too sloppy (they went to far with the multiple character thing). I was disappointed by it, although some fun can be had out of it. I quit buying Sonic games after that. But I have the Sonic Mega Collection and that thing is a ball of awesome.
  14. Awesome, I can't wait to play the "World of Warcraft" level. Fall is my favorite season. Any Super Mario 2 characters in there?
  15. I think the Mii integration you mentioned is really cool, like the poster of the cat food. What else happens with the Miis, and what's so hilarious about Wario mines? Update on your impressions please. The game sounds awesome. I'm really tired of the bullshit catch-up AI and item cheapness, but it's a bit of a double edged sword - It provides that trademark Kart insanity.
  16. The only time a baby should be in a game is when it's being mutiliated. Online sounds cool though.
  17. I can pick off almost any song by ear. This excludes extremely complex music like classical and jazz. But yeah, I can usually figure out your standard rock song in a few minutes. Demanding lead parts generally take a little bit longer. (yes, I'm a guitarist)
  18. That almost completely nullifies the reason for having balloon battles. Man, Nintendo, get off the drugs.
  19. No free for all? Man, that sucks. Oh yeah, Double Dash rules.
  20. Ya know, those people could just make the licensed games good like they often did in the heyday, and they would sell more copies of said games. Crap, if there was a Happy Penguin game that was getting major praise, even I would feel inclined to play it.
  21. I’ll tell you what’s wrong with gaming. It’s not the 80’s or early 90’s anymore. That, my friend, is the problem. Back in the day, you could have a game featuring a magical cheeseburger protagonist on a quest to find the 8 magic pieces of shit, and it could sell a million copies. That’s right. Guess what else? Licensed games could be good, especially Disney games. In fact some of the best games back then stared Disney characters and mascots for frikkin’ soft drinks. People bought good games, regardless if the character starred Bart Simpson or Johny Frikin’ No-Name. In fact, we would rent games, and if the game sucked, we would tell everybody else and they would avoid buying the game because it sucked. Or just trade the game in by lying that it didn’t work. Also, we didn’t have this casual VS hardcore crap. You were hardcore if you rocked at video games, not because you’re an unoriginal, unsocial turd who embraces nothing but Final Fantasy remakes and first person shooters. That’s right - hardcore was beating Mario without warp zones, not unlocking “achievements” on X-box Live. You want an achievement? Beat Mario in six minutes. Try to get through Ninja Gaiden (the real one, on NES) without continuing 60 times. That is an achievement. And we walked uphill both ways. The music? Don’t even get me started. There’s some great music around now. The sound quality is 2000% percent better, but back in the day, popular music was more melodic, funky, and random. So that translated into the games systems, which had limited sound chips, and for the composers to make uncompromisingly awesome tunes. Mega Man 2? You can’t make anything like that game’s soundtrack these days. It was the special combination of time-specific elements that allowed such a strange creature to exist, much like how giant dinosaurs were able to exist when the earth had more oxygen. And you know what else? Mega Man wasn’t a tiny little troll who ran around on the internet. He wasn’t a blonde-haired she-male who took all the limelight. He was a badass built by Dr. Light, and he saved the whole world, not just the internet, and not the moon. Mega Man wouldn't let the Earth be destroyed in the first place (to me, the series doesn't even exist after X3). Link wasn’t a pretty elf. He was an ugly, red-haired elf who was way too bad ass to need a horse or a highly incorrect opinion that Ocarina of Time is the best Zelda game. And why would you waste time fighting soldiers in stupid Tom Clancy World War 2 games when you could fight fucking space alien French fry people and turtle-demons instead? If I wanted to battle soldiers in other nations I would join the frikkin’ army. But I don’t want to. Need a hand fighting those space aliens bent on devouring the human race? Sign me up sir. Contra? Yes, Contra. Also, the Belmonts weren’t androgynous girly-men, and only 1/5 of Final Fantasy characters were. And the graphics were cool too. Sure, they were lacking detail and sharpness, but again, like they did with the music, the game developers had this thing called “creativity”, which became a part of the endangered species list in the mid to late nineties. The games had graphics that made you look out into the background and think “Whoa. I wonder what it would be like to go back there”. It was like being on drugs, which I quit around the same time when games started becoming more mainstream. Unfortunately, a bunch of presumptuous developers forced almost everything into blocky 3-D models and a few years later, I wandered into the new 3D backgrounds and I said to myself “That’s all there is here?!!” By forcing everything to go into 3d, that sense of wonder was destroyed. Sure, there are some cool games out there now (especially Rock Band), and there were crappy games back then, I’m just really just telling guys how it comes from a classic gamer’s point of view, and in a half-sarcastic manner as well. Also, our games' advertisements were honest. The ad was the main character of the game.
  22. That would be about as likely as a new Double Dragon game with Wiimotes strapped to your feet, and only about 1/14 as awesome.
  23. Kid Icarus, Starfox (in the vein of 64 but grander), Punch Out, and StarTropics (see endless ocean for graphic inspiration). STAT Nintendo. NO EXCUSES. Remember the people who put you where you are. Now get to it. Oh yeah, we want a Wii collection of Earthbound 1, 2, and 3. STAT.
  24. I borrowed from a friend and beat it when I was a little kid. About 20 years later, I downloaded it on VC and it took me forever just to beat the first level. I started getting the hang of it after a while, and I managed to beat it again. Right now (not exactly right now, when I have the time) I’m playing Dragon Warrior again. It’s such a well-paced RPG. Another game that I played as a kid, forgot about, then rediscovered and found some good challenge.
  25. I just bought a shirt in the sexy black.
