"how the hell did you beat those old games on the NES?" There are still some games I haven't beaten, like Ghosts and Goblins. The last time I tried to beat Blaster Master, I was near the last boss and the game froze, never to work again. I am still waiting for the right time, to execute my revenge. I still can't beat the first Ninja Gaiden without using continues. "those games are so hard." Yes, especially ghost and goblins "battletoads is impossible without save states" It is possible. It took me years to beat. Years. And a little luck. "the first zelda is impossible without a guide (the 2nd quest at least)" I love Zelda's difficulty. Zelda 2, on the other hand, that game will take some patience to master. Yet, I love that game's difficulty too. I also like to eat whole habenero peppers and have fully grown people punch me as hard as they can, so let's just forget about that. "i can't imagine kids not GIVING UP for several of these games" If there is a will, there is a way. It takes patience, faith, skill and hard work to beat a lot of those games from back in the day, and I'm proud to have been a part of it. I also think that a lot of games were designed to only be beatable by certain people. Many referred to this concept as "mastering" a game. You could actually be considered good at a game without actually beating it. Like if you could get to level 7 on Battletoads, but if you beat the game, you "mastered" it.

This is bullshit. It's called Cartoon Network for a reason.

Hi there. I haven't been posting much on here lately as I've been more busy actually playing games than talking about them, but most of you are cool and I was wondering what you thought of this game. I have a lot of fond memories of Final Fantasy IV. I remember the first day I saw it when my older brother rented it when I sat on my bunk bed sick as hell watching him beat the whole thing. I've always loved the story, the music, and the characters, and just the feel of the game in general. It has one of those worlds that you just wish you were a part of, and I'm not even that big of a Final Fantasy fan(relatively speaking). So, it was a no-brainer that I'd be downloading the game when it came onto Nintendo's Wiiware. I'm not happy about the episode system - I'm going to assume that you know that it was originally a cell phone game and how this game is like Mega Man 9 in an old school nostalgic way. I love this game (or games?). I'm addicted to it like a crackwhore wanting more crack. It feels like hanging out with old friends you haven't seen in a while. So far, I am not disappointed at all and my low expecations have been crushed and whisked into the ether. I know that SquareEnix wants my money and fully intends to take every dollar I have by charging individually for every episode, but I don't understand why I can't just download them all. So people, what are your thoughts on this game? I think it is great and I think it's a great time to be a gaming nerd, especially if you're one of those old enough to be nostalgic about games. There are lots of cool games out on all systems right now, but this episode crap is driving me nuts.

I think that you folks are onto something with the spirit being the Master Sword. I like the concept (has anyone else noticed that everyone has some kind of sidekick now?), though I'll miss Midna. It looks like Nintendo are changing up the style with Zelda and Metroid. Time for a true rebirth of both, don't you think? Anyway, I'm hoping this Zelda distances itself from Ocarina and the games that came afterward. I mean no offense to those games, because all Zelda games rule - I'm just ready for a Zelda that actually feels new. Same with Metroid.

Quit trying to be cool people. We know Nintendo are popular so they aren't the hip underdog anymore, but Punch Out is the shit. I'd say that it beats the old Punch Out in every way imaginable and that it's the best Nintendo game to come out in a long time. That's saying something because Excite Bots is pretty awesome. Two fat Nintendo releases almost back to back and people have the nerve to ask "Where's the games?" Where's the love? MadWorld? They're not just solid, they're badass games. I'm becoming annoyed with these "no good games since whatever Mario game" comments. If you haven't paid any attention to the Wii games coming out or the ones coming out just this summer then you need to look around, because they are out there. Heck, WiiWare and Virtual Console alone have more than my wallet can handle. It seems like every new review that comes out someone says "Finally a reason to own a Wii," as if they haven't said it about the past 15 Wii games they've reviewed. Go and out and buy the games then tell me that there's nothing worth playing.

Yes, please make more remixes. My lady and I were driving in the car the other day and she said "How about a surprise" and put some of your Blaster Master remixes in the CD player and they sounded great. Those are old and they still sound awesome. They really capture the essence of the game and surpass the original.

I love Nightwish, but I fail to see the connection between these two bands.

I still haven't beaten Blaster Master. I died at the last boss two years ago, and the game hasn't worked since (it seriously stopped working ); However, we will be fighting again one day. I have beaten Street Fighter 2010, Karnov and Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2! But alas, it's not enough. I will get my revenge!

311 - Transistor - A really underrated and often misunderstood band with an extremely underrated album. Transistor is a very psychedelic blend of reggae, rock, hip hop, jazz, funk and eastern music that was drowned under the success of their self-titled album. And it has 21 songs too. Words can't do it justice though. Sponge - Rotting Pinata - An odd grunge album with thick, emotional, hard rocking songs. The lyrics to this album are emignatic but some are tear-jerking, yet it lacks the crying-in-my-sister's-pants bullshit of today's emo bullshit albums. It's an emotional album but very masculine at the same time. Spacehog - Resident Alien - An excellent, uplifting space-themed record by a British band who ripped off David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and did it so well that it made me skip out of a party just so I could listen to it some more. Every song is solid and the album has an excellent flow. Very unique sound too, even though it is distinctly British. Oh, props for mentioning Days of the New. I respect their uniqueness and songwriting. Also, like a few of you already said - Smash Mouth made some good, enjoyable music. A lot of people called me a dick for buying their first two albums, but now most of us long for the good ol' days when "happy" and "rockin" weren't mutually exclusive.

Yes I have to agree with you.

I love the first one too and I love Konami. Also, I'm going to get this game.

If you haven't seen the original, then you haven't picked up the 100 bucks lying under your nose. Just go ahead and buy it.

I am a huge fan of The Neverending Story. I've listened to the soundtrack a million times, I've watched the first two movies a million times, and I've read the book two and a half times. I've had countless people talk me out of tattooing an Auryn on the center of my chest. I have listened to Limahl and Beth Orton belt out the main theme whilst cruising in my car through the countryside and blasting said theme through the twelve inch speakers in my trunk. My eyes get watery when the opening credits of the first movie start, and I'm not even a real wuss. Sorry for all that, but I just wanted to let you know how I feel about it. Without question, I will purchase tickets and be off for work for the remake on day 1 (should the remake occur) - but I'm not all for it. To me, it's pointless to remake something that is such a classic. I'm well aware that the movie is an abridged version of the first half of the book (and the second is a semi-detailed version of the second half of the book), but I think The Neverending Story (the movie) is pure cinematic and musical perfection. It is emotionally rivetting - it is a full rollercoaster of emotions displayed in seven shades of awesome. Even the effects hold up well. The casting is excellent. The pacing is perfect. The length of the movie is perfect. It's just perfect. Money - Remakes are profitable. It's a sure moneymaker, because the movie has a surprisingly large cult following and fantasy films are still the shit right now, and the planks are all in place for a remake. Why not do something if there's money involved? I don't want it to be touched. It is a sweet virginy goddess that need not be tainted. I am sorry. Hey, but if anyone wants to go see it I'll be down here on day one. DON'T FUCK UP FALKOR!

My only complaint is that Ryu lacks his sidekick of doom from Third Strike.

Wario Ware and Boom Blox are good. Boom Blox has very intimate multiplayer. Wario Ware is more of a party game, and it has tons of variety. Both games require real skill.

- Finally reply to PMs on here. I'm sorry - especially to Schwaltzvald - Cut down on drinking - Not be sick anymore - Quit smoking - Take the dog out more - Paint some more pictures and hang them up - Make another OCR mix CD for jamming out too - Delete unneccessary files on computer - Repair my older brother's NES - Repair my little sister's computer - Get awesome tattoo on center of chest - Quit cursing so much That's a lot of stuff and I do not feel very motivated anymore.

Man, Blanka's story is a frikkin' tearjerker.

Just played Turtles 2 for NES the other day (like I said I would). I tried beating the first Turtles last year, but I gave up after my frustration. I beat it when I was a kid though, and when the wind is blowing right, I will beat it again. It's a frikkin' hard game. Don't let Donatello die.

Commodore 64 games. There are several references to the word in that paragraph.
-
It seems that the reviewers seem to rate the game based off of how much effort went into the game instead of how fun the game is. I have no idea though. I've been watching this game for months and will eventually give it a shot.

What old game would you most like to see revived?

Bayou Billy! -
I really can't wait to fight as Splinter. He's always been my favorite. I've been a fan of the Turtles since the original animated film. I also really like the SNES Turtles VS fighting game, and I really like Turtles In Time. I really like almost all of the Turtles games - I've even beaten the original on NES. Screw it, I'm playing Ninja Turtles right frikkin' now.

Actually, it wasn't. Super Mario World isSuper Mario Bros. 4 and was renamed for its debut on the Super NES. Its story also continues directly from Super Mario Bros. 3. New Super Mario Bros. borrows from 1,3, and World while introducing new items and moves to the series. -

No one game, but here are a few wishes. I would like to see a downloadable Fantasy Zone game with a ton of levels and an RPG-style upgrading system. I would like to see a 3D console Mario game based off of Super Mario Bros. 2. I would LOVE a new Double Dragon game (not handheld, but on a console - the real deal) I would also like to see another Blaster Master game, but then all of these ideas are empty wishes. All in all, I would like to see more games that harken back to the games of the eighties and early nineties. Passionate, cheerful, yet tough as hell and very hardcore. I'm really interested in this particular game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veWCYceVwVU Oh, I would also like a new StarTropics game with lots of rad motion controls! Sling that yoyo! By the way, I have to agree with most of the games you people mention on here. It seems that almost all of them would be great for revival. Also, whoever said a new 2D Double Dragon with 3D graphics is right on the money. -
Edgecrusher is simple. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ok9CLFOavj8 He named himself after an awesome song by an awesome band. But this thread is for you, so happy late birthday. Enjoy yourself. Peace everybody. I'll see you next time.
