  1. I didn't call my mom. I haven't talked to her since Thanksgiving.
  2. I was going to break down and become a Snake main. But then, like a light cutting through the darkest night, Korean DJ appeared and shined forth as a beacon of hope: KDJ is the fucking man.
  3. So there was a Brawl tournament in Massachusetts today: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=4455144#post4455144 Five out of the top six finishers used Snake.
  4. I'm working on an article for www.allisbrawl.com, and it's going to focus on people who are new to the competitive Smash scene. I would like anyone who has recently decided to get into Smash competitively to answer the following questions for use in my article: 1) How long have you been playing Smash? 2) Have you been to any tournaments for Smash 64, Melee or Brawl? 3) What do you like about Smash Bros. in general? 4) What do you dislike about Smash Bros. in general? 5) What do you like about Brawl? 6) What do you dislike about Brawl? 7) What made you decide to jump into the competitive scene? 8 ) What are your goals as far as competitive Smash is concerned? 9) Do you play other games competitively? 10) How does the community for Smash compare to the communities for other games? 11) Any thoughts or comments you would like to share that were not covered by these questions? Answer some of them, or answer all of them. Either way, it'll help. You can either respond to the questions here, or PM me the answers. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.
  5. I don't mind if you love Brawl. Why does everyone seem to mind that I don't?
  6. The funny thing is, it isn't even about the tricks. There are TONS of tricks and glitches in Brawl: http://smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=164597 What made Melee so great was the intentional programming. L-canceling was not a glitch. Hit-stun was not a glitch. Those two elements formed the foundation for every combo in Melee. Brawl is a simplified version of Melee. Why is it so hard for some people to accept that?
  7. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but answer this for me: how do you have a fighting game without hit-stun?
  8. I hope you didn't think that I literally hate Brawl. My wife does; we used to play Melee for hours on end together, but I can only get her to play 2-3 matches of Brawl, tops. It bores her,and I can totally understand why. Let's face it: you can't play Melee online. Unfortunately, I feel forced to either a) play the better game alone, or play the lesser game with other people. Pretty crappy choices, but as they say, do as the Romans do. I am a tourney fag. I achieve the most amount of fun when I play tournament style. That means tournament-legal stages, l-canceling, wave-shining, chain-grabbing, edge-hogging, gimping, comboing, float-canceling, and all of those wonderful things that made Melee so great and deep. Almost none of that is found in Brawl. Make a little change like reducing hit-stun to an almost non-existent level, and you no longer have a fighting game, you have a game of tag. At the highest levels of Melee, you saw some pretty insane shit, and it was amazing. At the highest level of Brawl, you see perfect shield => ftilt. I know, I've played the best in both Melee and Brawl. With all that said, the Smash community has pretty much decided to move ahead with Brawl as the game for tournaments. I strongly disagree with this decision, but I love the community too much to quit it. So I put on my Ike sig and dumb down my gameplay because, to my unending chagrin, I love you guys. End rant, I suppose.
  9. My wife was a huge Melee fan, and she hates Brawl more than I do.
  10. For all Ness/Lucas mains: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=166765
  11. Good stuff, Silent Mike. We pretty much went back and forth the whole time.
  12. So my wife and I are high right now, playing Wii Bowling. Going into the 10th and final frame, I'm winning 162-141. On the last frame, my wife proceeds to hit three consecutive strikes. Meanwhile, I end up hitting only 8 out of 10 pins. She ends up winning 171-170. Man, what a crushing defeat.
  13. When you play them at all. Name one advantage other than the chainthrow that the ICs have in a matchup.
  14. Congratulations, defender!! I went to a small tournament today and got fourth. God I hate Metaknight SO much.
  15. Sorry I had to drop like that, Slient Mike, but my son fell off the bed right in the middle of the match. Saved me the trouble of getting beat! EDIT- Yeah, everyone makes such a big deal about their chaingrab infinites, but the ICs are MUCH worse than their Melee version.
  16. I agree with you, Garde. Anyone want to play? I need to work on my Ike. FC= 3179-5865-1416.
  17. I totally agree with Garde. But when I use the term "shield-camping", I don't mean staying in one place and waiting for your opponent to rush you. What I mean is the use of your shield to start attacks/combos. I played Cort on Friday, and he uses Snake (he went on to win a tournament the next day where he beat Mew2King in the finals). He does this thing where he just walks around, perfect shields every attack and then punishes you. No, you can't stand still and expect to win. No, you can't shield all the time and expect to win. What I'm trying to say is that a perfectly placed shield is far better than a perfectly placed attack, due to the lack of shield-stun and the lack of l-canceling. If you check the results of that tournament, the top five finishers mained characters that either attack well out of their shields (Snake, DDD), rape shields (G&W, Metaknight) or camp extremely well (Falco, ROB). In any case, the game revolves around your shield: how well you can use it, or how well you can destroy it.
  18. I don't see how this rises to the level of a "fiasco", but it is pretty damn stupid.
  19. I can't do it either, it's totally contrary to my play style and what I even consider fun. But if you want to win, it's the way to go.
  20. That Diddy Kong is actually making terrible use of his shield. Watch this match instead: Notice how almost every "combo" (I use the term loosely) that Vidjo performs begins with a shield. Azen starts to do the same thing towards then end. The shield is the best way to start attacks in Brawl.
