  1. Be careful here. Moreso than any other aspect of game design, more does not mean better in terms of characters. Three amazing characters is much better than twelve mediocre ones. This is where FF VI also set itself apart, in making the second half pretty open-ended so that you can explore the origins of the characters (not all of them; Umaro and Gogo really get no exposition at all). If you're going to make alot of characters, make sure you have lots of game for the player to get to know them.
  2. For me, it was the characters. Terra's struggles to understand her heritage, Celes' sorrow and suicide attempt (still one of my favorite moments in gaming), the family relationship between Edgar and Sabin, Cyan's loss and the scene with the Phantom Train...I could go on and on and on, but it really boils down to the wonderfully developed and believable characters. The music is a very close second.
  3. Sagat in any Street Fighter- Best back story in Street Fighter I think, but I suck with him. Robo Ky from GG- He's the best joke character ever, but I can't perform any of his combos. Falco in SSBM- Pew pewing is fun, but I'm not nearly technical enough to play well with him.
  4. LOL get teh DS insted duh Seriously, you should pick up Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness. And supposedly Dark Cloud 3 was supposed to be in development for the PSP, but I haven't heard anything about it in years.
  5. Atma was the only guy around here that played Olimar. All I can really say is that good DI when you're offstage as Olimar is imperative.
  6. No, as long as you play me whenever I get a copy of the game again.
  7. If you like fighting games, BlazBlue will be coming out eventually (no release date as of yet). That's my main reason for getting a PS3.
  8. Because it sucks, but for some self-hating reason, I've been really wanting to play it again.
  9. It's also not very often that fanfics have multi-million dollar budgets. I mean, this site is the perfect example of what fandom can accomplish.
  10. Sorry to bump this thread, but I've had a pretty significant change of heart regarding this movie. I heard that this is something of a fan project that Keanu Reeves has pushed through. True/False? If it's a fan project, then that changes everything. I have complete faith that Reeves would ensure a high level of quality for the project. It wouldn't be like Dragonball, where they hired a guy to play Goku who's never actually seen an episode of the show. This would essentially be a fan-fiction with a major Hollywood studio backing it. That possibility actually has me very excited.
  11. I've been trying to get my hands on a copy of Brawl.
  12. New Jersey should just do the East Coast a favor and sink to the bottom of the Atlantic.
  13. Yeah, I know the rules, I've participated before. Thanks for the heads-up though.
  14. Here's my entry for freeform. I wrote it for Mephisto's project, but I'm not doing anything else with it.
  15. Now that you mention it, I think Dakota Fanning would make an excellent Ed.
  16. Cowboy Bebop is my favorite anime ever. I don't care how you try to dress it up in some ironic sentiment about the dangers of fanboyism, but I love that show. And this live-action movie is going to be terrible, no matter how you slice it. It has nothing to do with America "breaking everything" or the casting or the producers or anything. It's just not a conversion that can work. How do you condense all of the subtext of Cowboy Bebop into 90 minutes (it's an action movie, no two hours here)? How do you communicate the tragedy of an entire cast who's futures are doomed by their pasts? It's not just that Spike was awesome, or Faye was hot, or Ed was funny. It was everything AROUND them: the syndicate, the ruined earth, the different architecture of the various planets in our solar system, the atmosphere of the show. That can't be put into a movie. That's exactly why they DIDN'T try it for the animated movie; if you didn't watch the series, the movie made no sense to you. But they're going to try, and they're going to fail. They're going to try and market it to as a wide an audience as possible; the casting of Keanu Reeves guarantees that (no matter what you think of him, his services are by no means cheap). Which means they're going to try and make the movie self contained, so that people who didn't watch the anime can follow the story. It won't work, because it's impossible. What's not said in the anime is even more important than what is. How do you put that into a movie? And without all that subtext, it's just a standard revenge tale, and Joe Moviegoer has a hundred of those to choose from. He's not going to watch the one with the stupid name. Call this a fanboy rant, because that's exactly what it is. This movie doesn't take anything away from one of my favorite shows ever, but it doesn't add to it either. So I don't want it to happen. I don't want all my nay-saying to be confirmed. Just leave it alone. You already got as much out of it as you could.
  17. I've had absolutely no luck finding an artist for my piece. Sorry Brad.
  18. Best gaming moment of 2008? That would be FINALLY completing the Wedding Mask sidequest from Majora's Mask. Or does that not count because MM wasn't released this year?
  19. Improved graphics heighten enjoyment and emotional impact of gaming. Which character do you connect with more visually, this one: or this one:
