  1. I played this on the last episode of my show on Arecibo. Apparently my mother liked it.
  2. From the project site's news page: This should fix the codec issues you're experiencing. Also, last time I checked, Winamp plays the problematic files without issue.
  3. This may be of interest to a few of the listeners last night.
  4. http://www.cs.mun.ca/~p34jmr/music/jmr-canyoufeelthetootseeroll-mashup.mp3 For those who listened to this on Radio:ThaSauce Live last night: this is a significant improvement over that version. I actually did more than throw the two songs into a mixer this time. I still couldn't find a proper Tootsee Roll acapella, but I managed to bring out the vocals from the rest of the track a bit.
  5. Wow, that's a pretty significant improvement over the original. If I heard that without knowing what it was supposed to be, I'd instantly think of Sonic. Can't say the same for the actual game track.
  6. Some more PM spam. From http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=33172
  7. Haha, I thought it was a nice touch, personally; a sort of light-hearted counterpoint to the dark vocals. Was that directed at me? I didn't mean to imply that the vocals were bad, and I definitely didn't intend to to insult. To be honest, the vocal version is starting to grow on me... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa33P9A5iHs <- Composed by the same guy who did the Requiem For A Dream score. Very similar riff.
  8. This is not really a review, per se; just a collection of random comments and observations I put together as I was listening. 'Sturm und Kong' Man, I forgot how much parts of the DKC2 soundtrack sound like David Arnold's Independence Day score until I heard the intro to this song. 'Simian Soirée' Apart from an odd sounding guitar chord here and there and a rather annoying audio glitch near the end, this track is pretty damn good. 'Rare Respite' Wow. I'm at a loss for words. Gorgeous. 'Token Up' This one has an awesome beginning, but the timing starts sounding sloppy around the two minute mark; the various elements seem pretty out of sync at times. I like the random guitar noodling though; I just wish the rest of the song was a little tighter. 'Beneath the Canopy' I definitely hear the Pink Floyd sound djp mentioned in the writeup. Probably part of the reason I like this remix so much... 'A New Place' There are a few moments in the male vocal sections that sound autotuned, which is okay, but I kinda wish it was a little more subtle. I love the acoustic guitar bits, it provides nice organic touch among the electronic elements. And what is it about this song that lends itself to vocal tracks? First Darangen's version, now this... not that I'm complaining; this is one of my favorite tracks on the album. 'Roller Disco' This was one of my favorite tracks on the Game Boy version (Donkey Kong Land II) of the soundtrack when I was a kid. Nice to hear someone *finally* do right by it. 'This Chase Is Haunted' YES. 'Backwards Room' Now this is more like it, zyko! It's much tighter, and all of the elements just 'click'. But... what happened at 4:09-4:10? Sounds like a bad splice or something. 'Trapped in the Minds' I like this song. Performance wise, everything is great, and personally I love the vocals, but the recording / mixing sounds... flat. It's lacking the kind of 'punch' that it deserves. 'Dance of the Zinger' I know I wasn't the only one who was expecting virt's remix to sound, well, nothing like this. That being said: way to knock it out of the park, man. 'Dead Raggening' When I saw the title I immediately wondered if there were going to be any nods to Clint Mansell's Dead Reckoning, and at 2:56 I was like 'totally called it!' 'Exit Row' OMG THOSE DRUMS. 'Pickin' Out The Fleas' OMG THAT GUITAR. 'Bramble Reprise' OMG EVERYTHING. 'Castle Crescendo' Another of my favorites. Something about electronic music that incorporates orchestral elements does it for me all the time... 'Monkeys Disarm Their Kremlings' Alright, so I'm not a fan of growling vocals in general, but I can't deny they work well in the context of this arrangement. (I also won't deny that I'm glad an instrumental version was included, because I really like Nekofrog's approach to this song.) By the way, is that a recorder at the end? 'Re-Skewed' What is there to say? Well, other than that I STILL can't believe that Taucer and Bahamut managed to get this TRIO OF LEGENDS on an OCR album. 'Bonus Bop' My toes were tappin'; my head was bobbin'. Can't ask for anything more. Overall, a very solid album; my favorite from OCR in quite some time. Definitely worth the wait.
  9. (you don't know the half of it...)What, it's not like it was hidden or anything. It was up for a full 50 minutes before I found it.
  10. You know, my time slot on Arecibo is immediately before that. I could do a regular show (or perhaps a special episode) for the first hour and then stream the entire album afterward, if anyone's up for that.
  11. Just got some PM spam from http://ocremix.org/forums/member.php?u=33006 edit: heh, it's as if I read this before it was even posted.
  12. First off, Spamtron = awesome in every way, shape, and form. Cheap Dinosaurs (the tracks on myspace are chiptune only, but as a live band they sound amazing.) Wizwars' Game Boy Rock!! EP is one of my favorites as well. And check out everything on Pause, it's not all chiptune but it's damn good stuff.
  13. Seriously. The entire thing was made using a sequencer I found online.Every song consists of three basic 2xOsc synths ran through very simplistic reverb, delay, and distortion effects. I used the stock drum sounds as well (it was hard enough to download the program over the cell network, let alone additional samples). The only part that was made outside of that program was the intro to the first song (but even that is a recording of the song playing as a ringtone) and the transition between tracks two and three (I added a touch of distortion and filtered white noise).
  14. http://wardriver.thasauce.net/releases/war005 My first original EP, entitled 'Through The Ringer' was just released on Wardriver: ThaSauce. It's a fair bit different than my more recent work, mainly due to the fact it was sequenced and mixed entirely using my cell phone while my laptop was in for repairs. You can download it for FREE from Wardriver:ThaSauce. A FLAC version is going to be going up in the near future as well. Let me know what you think!
  15. Quoth the Pretzel: "ONE OF MY TWO DKC2 ALBUM TRACKS IS DONE"
  16. I remember hearing (the first half of) this AGES ago when it was first posted on the WIP boards. I thought it was good stuff then; I think it's good stuff now. Thumbs up from me!
  17. Went with the earlier option. Normally my opinion wouldn't count for much because up until now it's never been feasible for me to go, but I'm planning on setting aside a large chunk of cash for next year. (actually, one paycheck at my current job will probably cover a return flight, assuming airline costs don't skyrocket... ) As it stands now, MA9FEST will be my first, so don't screw it up by choosing dates that would make it impossible for me to attend!
  18. Awesome, glad to know you liked it!Also, Brushfire is awesome. The gift arrived at My parents' place today; they're going to ship it to my new address sometime this week. I still don't know EXACTLY what I've been given. I'm told it's some quantity of bluray movies... (By the way, I wrote this post with my phone's 1-inch keyboard, so excuse any typos that might have snuck in. I'm laptop-less for the next 4 weeks or so, so I probably won't be around all that much for the next little while.)
  19. I can't say that I'll miss having you 'no' my mixes; you only voted on one of my submissions (and it wasn't a no!). I don't think I can add anything else that hasn't already been said. Hope to see your continued presence on the site! Oh, I really look forward to your future mixes and albums!
  20. Depends on the movie/dvd. Some (few) will have the foreign dialog hard-coded into the film, but most have them as a subpicture stream that's enabled by default. I haven't used DVD shrink in a while, so I don't know if there's any easy way to tell these subtitles from the 'English for the hearing impaired' subtitles. Chances are, though, the subtitles are small enough that leaving them in won't affect the file size too much... With regards to your audio question: from what I recall, Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes typically contain channel mixing metadata used solely when downmixing to stereo, so if filesize is not a concern, go for the 5.1. Chances are you won't notice any significant difference between the downmixed 5.1 and standard 2.0 mixes (although, this'll vary from movie to movie).
