I attempted to record a concert on my digital camera this weekend (with permission from the band of course). The thing is, at the end of the second set, the guy sitting next to me accidentally knocked my camera to the floor, and the batteries fell out while it was still recording. Presumably because of this, the .mov file's showing up as 0 bytes. I've tried a few generic flash card recovery programs, but haven't had any luck getting a working file (presumably because there's some type of header missing from the file or something like that). I haven't (intentionally) wrote to the SD card since, so I'm hoping the video data is still intact on the card. I've made a image of the flash card (using a trial version of getdataback). I know at least parts of the video are still there; I tried using a hex editor to copy random segments of data from this image file to a working file .mov file from the same camera, and I can see (somewhat garbled) frames from the damaged video. (The same garbling effect happens when I transplant data from one working file to another, by the way.) tl;dr Does anyone know of any file recovery software that works for quicktime files? or anyway to properly add a header to a .mov file?

PRC141 - It's A Me in the Stardust Road (Super Mario Galaxy)
jmr replied to Bundeslang's topic in Competitions
I approached this PRC the same way I have the recent OHCs: as an opportunity to improve. Everything else, including winning, is secondary. Which is why, in nearly all of the OHCs I've participated in to date, I've attempted something different, something new to me. Even this entry was a learning experience; I've never tried recreating a theremin-like synth before. (if it wasn't already obvious, i didn't use a real theremin. sadly. I've always wanted to try one.)Despite all that, it's still nice to know that my work is liked. It's a really great feeling. -
Just seconding Toadofsky's recommendation for Rayman 2. It's an excellent game. If you can find it, get Ikaruga. It's a little on the short side, but a great shmup. I never did get around to finishing Grandia II (must do that soon, my Dreamcast hasn't had that much use in the past few months), but what I did play was pretty good. If you have anyone to play them with, the Worms games are always fun.

I'm using a midi version of the SMB3 Iced Land (world 6) theme for some time now. My phone CAN handle mp3 ringtones to some extent (through the use of BitPim and a USB data cable), but in general they sound like crap and play much quieter than midi ringtones.

Yeah, so I'm not thinking of getting one of those DS flashcarts...

If your looking for media playback, as far as I know pretty much any of the main flash cards will do. Just throw MoonShell on there and you're golden. As for specific cards, the only one I have any experience with is the DSTT. I gave one to my brother a year or so ago, and he hasn't had any problems with it. (and he's not exactly the most technologically inclined person, either!) I'm not sure if linking to dealers here is a good idea, but there are places online that have that particular card for the extremely low price of ~$7.00 US with free shipping. (hint: google the underlined words!) -

You know, I just might participate in this one. -
Haha, I remember doing a few of these fake album covers this summer:

XOC AND HEAVY FRIENDS PART 3: THE SUMO ANAGRAM FIEND http://www.xocmusic.com/HF3/

I don't claim to know anything about the 3rd party models, but I do know that the original NES2 toploader lacks the RCA A/V jacks, meaning you'd be stuck with the inferior picture quality of the RF out. It'd probably be little harder to hook that up to a computer monitor too, unless you're using a TV tuner or something like that.

Me too, just finished installing a few moments ago. Username is jmr_ocr (apparently jmr works for Apple). -
That's what mine looked like the first time I visited the forums, but within a few minutes everything started appearing as normal. I'm using the same Firefox version on vista. Might be a cache issue or something.

I had no idea that there was a NDS music format. Thanks for sharing!

Haha, I heard Rise tonight at my work.Rise isn't on the Greatest Hits album I have, which oddly enough only has songs from the first 5 of the 13 albums that were released at the time.

Bump worthy? I think so.

I stopped by a local second-hand store today and found a used H2 for a decent price, so I guess you can remove my listing. Thanks for the recommendation.

New zircon album - Mass Media Constant - $7 on Protagonist Records!
jmr replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
Bought, and downloading now. -
Please elaborate. I've tried googling 'zoom h2 academic discount', and the only site that comes up lists it for $199.95, whereas amazon lists it for $148.80. Neither of those sites have the H2 on their Canadian equivalents, so either way I'm out of luck.

edit: found one. I'm thinking about doing some 'field recordings', so I'm looking for a small, relatively inexpensive device capable of recording from either a line in or external microphone. I've been leaning towards either a minidisc recorder or an iriver H1x0 mp3 player, but I'm open to anything that'll allow me to record from a line in / ext. mic source with decent quality. I want to be able to record to WAV or some other lossless format, but it's not an absolute requirement. So, in short: small 'field' recorder with line in / ext mic (see post) [jmr]
