OverClocked ReMix Content Policy - Final Enacted 6/12/2007
jmr replied to djpretzel's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
I have tracks on both released and unreleased projects, and would like to know about this as well. If one was to play an OC ReMix on a radio station, what would be the proper way of crediting the site? Simply naming the artist and the url? One more small question: when the policy is enacted, if someone violates the terms of use (say, someone uses a remix in a television commercial without giving proper credit), what would be the site's course of action? -
ANTIGRAVITY - new album available / new zircon website!

I haven't received my copy yet either. -
DJ SymBiotiX, I love the latest WIP. It's improved a great deal since the last version I listened to. Again, here's a little bit of point-format feedback / opinions: -Piano in the introduction seems a bit mechanical to me. -I'm not too fond of the snare at 1:03-1:09. It seems a bit too machine-gun-ish. -I'm glad you've varied the synth bass a bit, and I like what you did with it at 2:45-onward. Still, a little more variation wouldn't hurt. -Percussion seems to be a little too loud in the intro. -The lead synth is lacking... something. I can't quite put my finger on what, though. Try changing it around a little more, and using different sounds in different sections of the song. -I like the percussion from 2:30-2:44. -The transition from 4/4 to 6/8 at 3:53 is jarring. I like this section though, reminds me of the soundtracks for Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean. I'm really impressed with how this track is turning out. Keep up the good work. EDIT: Sorry man, but I don't really like anything in this one so far. It's way too repetitive, there is very little rearrangement, and the sounds you are using are utterly atrocious. If I were you, I'd really work on the arrangement before even starting on the guitar stuff. By the way, I'd very much appreciate it if you used a different host. Having to enter a password, and then STILL wait for the download link is very annoying.

I guess I'll be the first to nominate games for the Dreamcast: Dreamcast Soul Calibur (and I don't even like fighting games) Ikaruga (Japan-only, later re-released for the Gamecube) Rayman 2: The Great Escape (I know it was released on other consoles as well, but I've only played it on the Dreamcast.)

Just got the shipping confirmation email... can't wait until it arrives! -
I figured this was going to happen soon enough. There hasn't been that much productive activity here in quite some time (except for DJ SymBiotiX... when he joined the project, it got my hopes up!). Dafydd, I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's all your fault. As you said, this game doesn't really have that large of a fan base. With so many other projects on the go, not much attention has been given to this project. While I'd hate to see this project die, if the community has no interest in it, I don't see any point in continuing with it.

I know I'm stating the obvious here, but the new organization system is MUCH MUCH better than the old one. I'll have to glance through them later on today to see if there's anything new that I like.

GAH I HAD I POST WRITTEN AND I LOST IT. If you're looking for comments on your actual blogger page, it might help if there were 'post comment' links on the two latest posts. I really enjoy reading about how people, especially the 'higher ups', discover OCR and the VG music community. I especially enjoyed part 2, as I've been considering becoming involved with my university's radio station in my next term. I'm looking forward to reading parts 4 and 5, and all of your future blog entries.

Just out of curiosity, if Ari was to make an effort to return to the community, and if he wasn't "still a grade A asshole", would he be allowed back? Or would people still hold a grudge against him?

It's the Mario Paint title screen music... or at least, part of it is. EDIT: 4:39 (Startropics) sounds awesome. Have there been any other remixes of this source? I'm not familiar with the game or it's music, but the melody sounds so damn familiar. I'm just wondering where I might have heard it before. EDIT2: For some reason, that section (particularly 4:53-5:11) reminds me of this.

Hmm, apparently I'm one of your top listeners as well. Must be because I listened to RoFL recently. ... you did 'Happy 2 Dux' too? Wow, I had no idea!

Just out of curiosity, I looked at my last.fm page. While some of the tracks listed on that page are actually mine, the majority of them aren't. I don't really like having tracks with the name "Dip It Low" and "Got Urself A Gun" attributed to me. I think chthonic's got it the worst though; he shares his name with some Taiwanese metal band.

First of all, let me make this clear: I know I have a weird taste in music; there's no need to remind me. Got that? Okay. This is what you get when you toss 70's disco, Super Mario Bros., exam stress, boredom, and borderline insanity into a blender: [edit: a few small updates] For comparison purposes; a crappy encoding of the original (or, at least, the version I have on vinyl): [MP3 - 2.0MB] Michael Zager Band - Let's All Chant (attn mods: I'm not sure of any rules against posting this source material. Feel free to remove the link if required.) Basically, all of the main elements of the song have been replaced with sound effects from the original NES Super Mario Bros. game. For example, the "Oi Oi"s have been replaced with the jump sound effect, the claps have been replaced with the pipe sound effect, and so on. The melodic elements of the original have been replaced with triangle and square wave synths (I never limited myself to what the NES could produce, though; I'm not that picky). I tossed in some random sound effects from the game to make things interesting. I also sampled and used a portion of the vocals from the original, but I couldn't filter out the other lyrics clear enough to make them usable. There's very little arrangement in this piece. In fact, I deliberately stayed as close to the source as possible.

OCR01569 - Touhou Youyoumu: Perfect Cherry Blossom "Icy Peaks"
jmr replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
BEAUTIFUL. ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I don't know if there's any other way to convey how I feel about this one. My only gripe is the length, but other than that, it's stunningly great. -
I realize that it's just an early demo, but I figured it wouldn't hurt if I gave a little bit of feedback on what you have thus far anyway. -Overall, I like the direction that you're taking with the track. -I'm not fond of the snare sample you're using up to 0:40. -That background synth is overly repetitive; maybe if you changed up the progression a little, or used some sort of filtering to vary it a little. -I think the strings could use a little more attack. -In terms of arrangement, what you have is fairly promising, especially given the short, repetitive nature of the source. EDIT: I just took a look at your website; I see you've done a remix of Robert Miles' 'Fable'. Good stuff! Mind if I ask what software you use for your remixes? Also, I took a listen to your 'Light Within The Darkness' mix. I like it, but to me, it's a little over-compressed. EDIT2: Just listened to your Traces mix. I really *really* like it, but there are a few production issues (mainly eq, and again, over-compression) that are holding it back. But man, if you can produce anything as good as that for this project, I'll be very pleased!

OCRA-0008 - Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Project Chaos
jmr replied to SnappleMan's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
Why does everyone dislike Hetcenus's Ice Cap remix? I personally love it; I consider it to be one of the best on the whole project. The arrangement is one of the best I've heard, even if it does border on being to liberal. -
Apple to remove DRM from iTunes, double encoding quality
jmr replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
I agree that there is no noticeable difference between a properly encoded MP3 / AAC file and a lossless encoding. I just dislike purchasing what I consider to be an 'inferior product', even if the difference is minimal. Plus, I'd rather own a physical version of an album, with all the artwork and all that. -
Apple to remove DRM from iTunes, double encoding quality
jmr replied to zircon's topic in General Discussion
I don't use iTunes, but I have to agree that this is step in the right direction. Now, if they offered completely lossless files, I'd be more willing to purchase online music. Until then, I'll stick to the CD. -
I just listened to some of the 'Teo & Tea' album, and I haven't heard anything I like as much as I like his earlier work. I think I might dig out 'Oxygene 7-13' again; haven't listened to it in quite a while.

You can play SACDs on a PC? That's news to me.EDIT: Just to clarify: I know you can play hybrid SACDs in a regular CD rom drive (along with pretty much any CD player), but as far as I know, the DSD layer can only be played in standalone SACD (or SACD/DVD) players.

The link to the Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2 RSN files (on this page) are broken. The correct links are: http://www.ocremix.org/songs/original/Donkey%20Kong%20Country.rsn http://www.ocremix.org/songs/original/Donkey%20Kong%20Country%202.rsn Also, the 404 page has a few broken links, but that's already been pointed out:

OC ReMix Used in Local Commercial - eMail Needed

In case that it hasn't been found yet: http://www.holovaty.com/contact/ -
Now that's it's explained to me, I hear what you're talking about. I've fixed it, and tweaked the levels in that section as well, and I'll export it later tonight to see how it sounds. . . . So? *thinks about it for a second* OHHH....

Wow... I wish I had access to a computer that good.I'm using FL Studio (not sure which version), but I'm also using several large samples and sound fonts that would make it difficult to share with someone else. I may be able to convince Ryan to let me use his PC. His computer is a bit more capable than mine, and he has pretty much all of the stuff that I have. I thought I had it fixed... oh well, looks like it wasn't the final version after all. Which section was it again that had the conflicting keys? I'm not hearing it. (in case it's not obvious, I've had little/no formal music education.)
