  1. Here's my latest production. Well, not really new but a revamp of an older remix I completed. It's in a dark/neuro drum & bass style, like it was in the original remix but I replaced almost all the drums. They didn't carry the tune well enough.   4. It sounds a tad too muffled, but I can hear that there's good quality production regardless. It's a nice change from your typical trance remix- sounds like a more mature trance sound. Just good beats all around.
  5. Breakbeat Exercise volumes 1-5 as well. Each one is mixed by a different DJ so as a collection, the sounds and styles are so varied. I find Volumes 2 and 4 the best. 2 is very energetic and 4 gets melancholy most of the time. They're fairly common- I was able to find several copies of Volume 4 at a Best Buy. And to top it off they were all under $9 new.
  6. Generally, your drums sound good, but with the melody and harmony thrown in it starts to get chaotic. The lead in the first drop is panned hard to the left and it makes it feel incomplete. You would want to balance the stereo expansion of your synths. It's good that you keep your drums more towards the center like you have right now. I also agree with Navij11's advice on adding punch to the drums. The current snares have a longer release than they should. Pendulum produced pretty solid DnB before their "Hold your Colour" album.

  8. Go for Andy C's Nightlife. The 4th volume is slated to come out in a couple of days, but also check his previous mixes for reference. His mixing style crams in a lot of tracks in a short period of time and they range from funky, jazzy sounds to some heavy (but not too dark) jump-up that brings up the energy. The artists there were recommended for you are good starts already. Photek has a way with making moody music out of broken beats, and have amazing production values. I second rAnDOm_rOguE's suggestion on Bad Company UK. They're a prolific bunch, though when they split up, their individual music never got up to the same quality as before.

  10. Downloading....and checking it out. Hmm, sorry but it's nothing I've heard before. Yep, sounds like it would've been produced in the early 2000's since current jazzy/funky dnb sound doesn't have as much emphasis on broken beats. I'll cross-post this in a different forum where other dnb fans can ID this track.
  11. I'm certain that some people out there are afraid of what impact this could have to live and recorded instrumental performances and taking for granted the natural talent of musicians. But it's still just a tool that enhances a good performance. I don't expect it to turn shit into gold.
  12. As of now I'm just bedroom mixing for the sake of mixing. I've put some mixes online before, but nothing that I think makes me think I'm good enough to play out live yet. My equipment is 1 Technics SL-1210 and 1 Stanton Str8-100 with a cheap-ass Gemini mixer. The mixer is the first thing to go, replace it with a nice Ecler when I have the money for one next month. I agree that digital DJing is much more convenient when you're live, though nothing beats the feeling of purchasing actual vinyl records. My collection is small compared to regular vinyl DJs (between 60 and 70 records) but I consider them my most valuable possessions (I guess, along with the computer). If my home catches on fire, the hell with the turntables. I'm taking the records first!
  13. I figured some people here might know more about it than me. I have no clue how it works but it looks like it will add a whole new layer of efficiency when working with sound recordings. Plus achievements!!!1 Well, not quite, but it would be an interesting endeavor to give a point value to some qualities (like no. of remixes done, projects participated etc.) I was thinking of rep points that can be traded between members, but that would probably just cause friction in the community.
  15. The Evol Intent: Era of Diversion album recently came out. It's packed with awesomeness. If you want a good variety of dark drum & bass, and some glitchy, minimal and IDM-type of stuff thrown in, this is like the deal of the year. Gonna be a big album for sure.
  16. Yeah, it really beats 21st century Happy Hardcore in my opinion. Nice and happy vibe, and I remember playing Lemmings on the SNES and this song is probably used there. You know that piano is all right but it's not quite the "rave piano" I was expecting. Get to working it out!
  17. I consider Rock Band to be more of a party game than a musical game. Guitar Hero series gives plenty of solo challenges, and I don't find that much with Rock Band. Rock Band is only worth buying if you can keep a steady schedule of friends dropping in to play with you. I'm glad you brought that up, because the pro DDR scene changed a lot after 5th Mix. It was that point where people got obsessive over perfection and AAAing everything, and freestyle dancers became a small sideshow. A machine cannot record your grace or style, but it was nice to watch someone freestyle doubles on Afronova in the (gasp) USA Mix game.
  18. I second the Playstation D-pad being worse, even for fighting games. Guilty Gear + PS2 = first actual blister-full experience. I had a better time playing on the Dreamcast.
  19. LTJ is one of the pioneers, grandaddies, of drum & bass. He was putting down tracks since the early rave days. You know those soundtracks from early Ridge Racer games? It's a bit like that. I haven't gotten much in touch with the early drum & bass because I got into this style of music around 2000. My friend gave me Dieselboy's System Upgrade album for a listen so I got hooked more on the aggressive, techy sound. Regarding Pendulum, I see quite a few here have taken a liking to them and I can see why. However, IMO their sound doesn't do it for me anymore. They narrowed their creativity in their most recent releases. 2005 Pendulum > 2008 Pendulum. Hardcore junglists think they sold out when they signed to the Warner Bros. label. However, they've paid their dues in the music world so they deserve it, and they can do whatever they want.
  20. Interesting, Hospital and Dieselboy. Those two are different as day and night in the d&b world. High Contrast is what Hospital Records is known most for. You might want to check out Billion Dollar Gravy and the Weapons of Mass Creation albums. Large Amount of Soul is also making a big impact in the jazzy, funky d&b sound. Dieselboy runs Human Imprint, which in recent years has gotten a darker sound. Ewun, Technical Itch, and a bunch of artists that DiabloShadow fit the bill.   22. You should check out Hallucinogen in Dub. Hallucinogen is a psy-trance artist, but his works have been remixed into reggae-like dub in this album.   23. I think RSS feeds separated by system/platform would be a nice addition, for those people that don't own every single system, anyways. Maybe announce the games a week before release as a reminder.
  24. Zircon is always great at blending different themes together, and this remix is further proof of it. The details of all the different instrumental parts are what I like the best since it's not as "groove-centric" as most of his other pieces. I have a new Zircon favorite!
  25. Thanks for the suggestions. I think after messing around with LFO settings, I notice that most of the texture comes from filtering out the right frequencies.
