  1. Not all Captchas (thats what those image things are called) are fool-proof. A lot of bots are made to read through them. So at the same time, it's slowing down the real people that want to use the search feature. We could use something that asks the user what the answer to a basic question is. Even just telling the user to type in a word during registration will stop many bots in their tracks. You can also try using this. http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=124828
  2. I would suggest "Live at the Springyard" by Harmony. The source tune lends itself well to the smooth jazzy style, which helps.
  3. DistantJ auctually made a happy hardcore version of Green Hill for OverLooked RemiX over a year ago. It actually doesn't sound bad at all. Now THIS, I'd like to hear again with upgraded sounds.
  4. As an amateur DJ this really interests me. Now you can pump up the crowd with your movements and at the same time control the music.
  5. I like what I hear, and the house/trance combo is nice, something I only imagine you intended to add for the new version, right? It gives it more of a prog-trance feel. You mixed this damn loud too, I had to turn the volume way below my usual listening level. Although you mainly talked about improving the sounds, will you work on the arrangement more?
  6. A few years back I was getting out of art class and had to walk to another building for my next class. Two other classmates were walking with me and someone said "Wow, it's very foggy- the draw distance is short."
  7. Did a small update. Added new bass at the beginning and a short part at the end with new synths. Link is same as before.
  8. I agree with most of the points Thylacine made. The first voice sample, the buzzy lead synth that's too plain and default-sounding, And the bells that suffer from the same problem. But I also listened to your longer 3-minute version and I think the new ideas you added have great potential. Now you've given the mix a clear direction. The "dadadada" vocals took some getting used to, but along with the rhythm I can clearly hear you're aiming for a 90's feel. The breakdown keeps it from getting too repetitive, but again those bells must go. I dunno if the male vocal works here either. When the dance beat kicks in again- nice, better percussion. But the snare still sounds too harsh. So...this remix can sound good even with the female vocals but everything needs to sound more cohesive. To do that: Fix the EQ on the percussion- it sounds very thrashy and over-compressed. Come up with a better lead synth to open with. Correcting just these things can already make your mix sound much more professional.
  9. The drumming style intro to your DKC2 remix is nice. The synth that starts playing the quarter notes at 0:20 doesn't sit well with me but it's bearable. Nice drums starting at 0:38 too, they're reminiscent of the music from the jungle in the first DKC. Then comes an empty section that sounds very unfinished. Maybe add some improvisations here. The acoustic guitar is also very nice, if a bit fake sounding. I haven't yet gotten to the Wario remix, but the DKC2 one sounds really promising.
  10. Listen to the beats. Try getting some drum pattern ideas from there. There are many kinds of time signatures that are uncommon for the Western ear.
  11. This is the problem I'm trying to solve whenever I DJ mix. Yeah, I could follow the volume LEDs of my mixer but it doesn't help me keep all the songs at a consistent level. Maybe it's because my mixer is a Gemini
  12. Probably only a few people have played this game, but for me it was actually fun as a kid, except for the mines, they gave me a headache. Anyways, this is a short WIP as I just started today. If you want to listen to the original you'll have to visit Zophar's SPC page and use your favorite SPC player to open chestr00.spc, that's the one I'm remixing. The original tune is simple and repeats every 30 seconds, but I think has potential for a very nice groove and so forth. There's not a whole lot here yet, but I'm planning on more updates soon. So any thoughts on it? The mp3
  13. Here's an audio recording from the radio station with the DJs talking about the contest before it took place. http://www.sacbee.com/static/newsroom/kdndslides/ One DJ speculates that they will throw up the water eventually. Another basically says "Your body is 98% water, why can't you take in as much as you want?" They probably a imagined water drinking contest to be the same as those eating lots of solid food, which is the most likely reason they didn't hesitate to hold the event.
  14. Hey, nice to see you working on more stuff again. Well, I know Healing Vision by heart, it's one of my most oft-played DDR tunes. Right now I don't hear much from the actual Healing Vision melody, though I imagine the arpeggio could be the backing harmony. It sounds clean and you're setting the mood well, but there's not a lot of development yet. Maybe because the melody is missing. Are you planning to add acoustic samples or will it be all synthesized? BTW, I submitted the mix right after New Years'. It should appear in the review queue soon. The next batch of music to review is usually added when the queue is less than 10 submissions.
  15. I can't believe there aren't any more responses to this. This mix has style. Keep adding more. The drums sound thin and crunchy at some points, particularly where there are fill-ins. Weren't you the same guy that used "Brinstar...Brinstar" vocals over and over again in one of your other versions?
  16. 4-on-the-floor beats usually require a lot of work before they get stale, but your mix kept me moving non-stop! I really expected the melody to double up on speed after the drop of the beat at 0:50, but you surprised me there. The bass drum really pounds, loud and hard. At around 1:30 the melody gets a slight tinge of middle-eastern feel. Maybe you can throw in a goa trance-ish groove here for a few bars, and then the breakdown. I would suggest blending in the sound bites better. Because of the cartridge media, the sounds were recorded at a low sample rate. Add some treble, perhaps, and a bit of reverb so they don't deviate too far from the sound quality of the music. I admit the parts with the kick-snare-kick-snare lost some steam, but this is my personal reference because I couldn't get tired of the thump-thump in that bass.
  17. Bump, I guess, since a lot of people apparently wanted to hear this.
  18. Wow, these guys are real good. I love the warmth to the sound. I don't get to hear that too often with OC remixes.
  19. I know I was supposed to have an update by last week so I'm sorry. I've done a LOT for the final version. Check it in the first post.
  20. I just logged in and responded to your message. It will likely be done this weekend. I did quite a lot of work on it in the first week after you handed the mix to me but then trailed off. Sorry about the wait, guys.
  21. Fun fact: Concord Dawn uses mostly Fruity Loops to make their music. It's a pretty sick d&b remix of an evil source tune. What else can I say. But dammit, now you go and make me want to do yet another Chrono Trigger remix. But one that follows the styles of Subfocus and TC.
  22. Oh hell yes.... Haha. That's probably my most-used contribution to UnMod.
  23. Very energetic and light-hearted. It's kind of a break from all the recent epic and/or operatic stuff we've been getting. This certainly uses a lot of interesting sounds and ethnic instruments which makes me think it won't sound too out of place on one of those Korg workstation music demos.
  24. So I got a PM from Avaris, saying that I should join in. Doomsday recommended me so I'm just seeing what the deal is here. But I haven't even played Xenogears so I don't know if I'm firm on being in the project. I'm just starting to get the ideas of this project, but think of how a DJ in the club mixes songs together. As a DJ, 90% of his prescence is already determined by the music selection. My guess is there will be two parts to the project: a mixed compilation of the remixes, and the standard collection of remixes as separate songs. Some 2-disc DJ albums are done in this way.
